Jocko the Wonder Llama
You know, there's a song in that...."Where have all the Flugels gone? Long time passong..." :P
jjeffeory
I'm 99% sure flugels were used by the soloist I mentioned above.I'm pretty sure Magic had a "G" flugel in '99. It was a Chuck Mangione show. :P Also, going off of my memory, I'm pretty sure the first brass entrance in the '02 Crossmen show was a flugel section soli. You're right, I meant as a whole line. Flugel solos are still around. Oh, Crossmen '02 had a flugel line? Cool.

Crossmen 2002 had 6 flugels, while 2003 had 8 flugels and 8 mellos. 2004 they were dealt away with.

SHHHH, don't say that, because all I ever heard was how once they started that piece, they never stopped playing. :P
no_itsnotadash
How well do they project?
Feathers Up
As far as that goes, where did all the French Horn "Bugles" go? ( Marching French Horn )Some top DCI corps used to use them too. I think the last Corps to use the flugel was the Crossmen. Was that in 1999? I know the Cavies used marching french horn up until 1993. I don't think Star of Indiana ever used either. I remember that marching french horn sound in Phantom 1985 when they played Symphonie Fantastique. I think the reason for both is that they're harder to tune. Vanguard marched french horns in 01..Very noticable in Short Ride.
mchromik
I don't think Star of Indiana ever used either. Star used the same set of two-valve King K-50 Mellophones all of their nine years as a drum corps and the first two years of brass theater. mrtrumpet86
This is kind of a bummer...I've always wanted to march flugel and was hoping that some junior corps would add a flugel line next year, but that doesn't look too promising... BMBob
Go march with Academy. While they are not a division 1 corps, it would be an awesome experience. Don't discount it.
