Fran Haring
Wow.... great memories here. Thanks for sharing this! Interesting to read about the corps at that first DCI championship having to do their full-length shows for Prelims. That basically put an end to the requirement for corps to do shorter shows for their prelims performance, then their full shows for Finals, as in the VFW and American Legion days. I always thought that the "shorter shows for prelims" idea was kinda bizarre....made for all sorts of chopped-up shows, just to fit the time and motion requirements of the prelims show. I'm glad it was finally put on the scrap heap of drum corps history! Fran
Fran Haring
Also interesting to note that as of that March date, the Hawthorne Muchachos had not yet signed up to compete in that first DCI. Didn't they end up being the first corps on at that very first DCI prelims show? Fran

A27Lancer
Weird to see the order of appearance so mixed up. Even though it was the first DCI, I expected to see some sort of seeding used. Then again, I remember in the Reveries going on right after Blue Devils at US Open in 1974.
Blackstar
I don't believe Blue rock came to DCI the first year. And it's a shame because they had a really strong show and were top 3/4 all year. In 1973 they suffered the tour from #### to Cali which started the downfall of the corps. I may be wrong about dates. Fran "Muchacho's On "First"": Yes indeed Fran, the Hawthorne Muchachos were the 'First" corps to ever compete in DCI Prelims. I forget the exact 'Line Time" they had but it was EARLY. We were there to watch them. Jeff Kievett, their legendary soprano solist never missed a single note in practice or performance that entire weekend.
