pit spots?

At the risk of sounding rude, Cascades is not BD, and in the Northwest corps there are a lot of "no-cut" situations. I don't know the exact situation yet this year, but I speak from experience. "If they were cut, they were gone" is quiiiite rare up here.

So you're saying that the Cascades front ensemble is made up of people who were cut from the battery? Cascades may not be BD, but that still sounds kind of weird to me, in this day and age, for any D1 corps.

I'm not saying people don't try out for pit! They certainly do, but there aren't big numbers to fill it up. In high school, a lot of battery players started out in the pit, so snare players who didn't make snare pull out their old mallet chops and go for pit sometimes to be in the corps they want rather than try the local Div II or III. And there's often room. Not huge audition numbers around here.
