One thing I do understand about this (although I am sure many don't) is some simple math.....If you have a full corps, and only members ride the buses, you go with at least 15 empty seats, as most buses have between 50-58 seats. The bus costs the same to get down the road if it has 2 people on or if it is full. Transportation costs for a corps are quite high. Also, the staff is paid the same if the corps has 90 members or 135....the instructional costs will not increase for a handful more members. The only increase in costs will be for additional instruments/uniforms, and a mild increase in food. However, a corps can actually slightly LOWER the per person cost for the corps due to the increased revenue from those members without actually increasing the overall cost that much. I have a school group that is more than one bus but less than 2.....I try as hard as I can to fill my trips with chaperones, family members, community people...in order to hold back the per person cost for my membership.

More kids will get a chance to march, and that's a good thing.

It is an increase of more than 10%, not just a handful. Besides, corps aren't full, so those "more kids" DO have a chance to march, right now, without any changes whatsoever.

Also, I have a whole theory (but I won't go into it, besides it's late) about Hopkins and why he wants all these proposals passed-I mean come on Hopkins doesn't need more money for the Cadets, and I don't think he wants 15 more members just so he can hear "louder hornlines". Besides, doesn't he want woodwinds in drum corps? Wouldn't that mean less horns?
He actually wanted 180 but got turned down, so now he is proposing150. A smaller step. Get WWs in and then all of a sudden we will see the need to increase corps to 180 or 210, so we can have a complete band.

Coming from the possition of a shot down (crashed and burnt to a crisp) auditionee...more people per corps=morespots=more of a chance to get in.

simple and makes me happy.

You can be happy only after you've been selected. Depending on where a corps decides to place those 15 extra members, you could still be on the outside looking in.

And if you want to march drum corps that badly, there are plenty of options for you to chose from.

Why wait for a membership increase?

So next season corps that finish mid-to-lower-end of the pack that can only manage to field 120 spots are going to be up against corps with 150? That's a huge disparity, and puts said corps at a significant disadvantage.

I like the fact that the limit is going to be rasied to 150. Like others said already...

More people=louder drum corps....and better opportunity for others who don't make certain corps they want due to cuts.....

then they should practice harder...the essence of competition...or not

I agree, there's a reason people get cut. The only thing I'm worried about is the quality level of corps suffering because of having an additional 25 people that otherwise would have not have been in corps (getting cut) now marching. This is the one and only new rule that I really don't like. But oh well, hopefully age out year isn't ruined :P

Let us not care about the numbers, but the conditions of the corps members and their overall conditions. Even a small corp, DIV I, can experience horrible/intolerable conditions, and still manage to provide a great show. Hope that no one has to experience the conditions of last summer. ^0^

No, because it's part of the experience having to work hard to EARN your spot.
