JMS0527
Well, I suppose that makes a little sense.... All the same..... OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!
MikeM
It didn't pass in 2004, it must have passed in 2003 to take effect in 2004... DCI has archives to 2003, but I couldn't find the 2003 proposals. Here's a link to 2004: http://www.dci.org/news/news.cfm?news_id=e...b7-b2cd231ba97b
MikeM
Part 2: The only thing I could find about the 2003 rules was this snippet: *On June 7, DCI Board of Directors chairman Jeff Fiedler will convene a group of advisors to discuss the issues surrounding the implementation of amplification during DCI programs in 2004. An outside audio consultant will also be present at this meeting. Link: http://www.dci.org/news/news.cfm?news_id=a...fa-3f5d8d17be66
MikeM
Found this on RAMD: Amplification rule passes; Division II and III can play shorter programs By a 12 to 8 vote, the Drum Corps International board of directors passed the rules proposal to allow for amplification of current pit instruments and the human voice. This will be allowed starting during the 2004 competitive season, making the 2003 season the final “unplugged” season in junior drum corps. This proposal, proposed by George Hopkins of the Cadets, does not allow for battery percussion or the brass lines to be amplified, nor is it a gateway to electronic instruments, according to Hopkins. “I look forward to the opportunity to add amplification into corps’ shows,” Hopkins said, also commending the board for its “good and civil discussion” of the topic. “I am excited about the possibility that we get to work the projection of the front field ensemble,” said Blue Devils director Dave Gibbs, who voted for the proposal. Santa Clara Vanguard director Rick Valenzuela said, “I don’t see how it’s going to hurt. My performers in the pit would like to be heard.” Some directors wanted more information about cost caps and how the passage of the rule might create an un-level playing field. Colts director Greg Orwell stated, “This is not something our kids are asking for. I hope we know what we’re getting into. I’m curious and concerned. I hope it doesn’t become a money Armageddon.” The Cavaliers’ director Jeff Fiedler said, “I think it goes against the basic nature of our activity. We don’t need it in our pit. The members are taught how to play to project.” This proposal had been presented to the board of directors, in various forms, since 1989. Funny how Fiedler wasn't happy in 2003 but uses them anyway. audiodb
Try this. It's a link to the January 2002 proposal (turns out RAMD does have one useful purpose). Edited January 9, 2007 by audiodb
MikeM
That's 2002...the version that failed.
audiodb
Sorry. It does show how much of the current proposal is now five years old, though.
MikeM
Hoppy proposed it for 12 years straight before it passed. I've got a post open on RAMD....I'm sure someone will have it available. DCI has apparently purged a lot of 2003 from the site...none of the links inside posts work.
JMS0527
Found this on RAMD:Funny how Fiedler wasn't happy in 2003 but uses them anyway. And uses it better than anyone else out there, as far as I'm concerned
