I know this is on the front page news blurbs, but I thought it deserved mention here in the forums as well.

It is with great honor and pleasure that the Raiders Drum & Bugle Corps of Wayne, NJ make the following announcement.

George Hopkins Director of the Cadets and CEO of Youth Education in the Arts (YEA!), announced recently the organization has decided to donate the Cadets Pre-Owned 47 Ft Food Trailer to the Raiders Drum & Bugle Corps.

"We're happy to assist the Raiders in their pursuit of bringing a high quality experience to their current and future membership, said George Hopkins, Director of the Cadets and CEO of Youth Education in the Arts (YEA!). We hope the food trailer donation to the Raiders' team will serve its purpose well as it did for the Cadets members, staff and volunteers through the thousands upon thousands of meals which were lovingly prepared while it was in service. We enjoy a solid working relationship with the Raiders through our fall USSBA program and it is our intention to continue to build relationships with corps like the Raiders as we collectively work to keep the drum corps activity alive. Bon appetite to our friends in New Jersey!"

Tom Maiello, Director of the Raiders, was overwhelmed with excitement when he received the news. "First and foremost, I would to thank George Hopkins and the ENTIRE staff of the Cadets and YEA! for this generous donation. Our relationship with YEA! has become stronger each year and we look forward to continue working with them in the future. We have been working with the USSBA during the fall band seasons and we have had a number of students further their drum corps career with the Cadets and YEA! This is truly one of the most generous actions I have seen in my 16 year tenure with the Raiders. The corps has been using a converted School Bus as a kitchen, it's been gutted out and stoves and refrigerators were installed, but it was very tight inside and had very limited storage space. This trailer from the Cadets & YEA! is exactly what the corps needs for it's 2007 trip to California and many more season to come. This helps the Raiders plans to become a larger and stronger drum corps. We have a growth, operational and organizational plan in place for the corps, we are ahead of schedule and having this food trailer will add to our success. We would like to extend an open invitation to the Cadets members and their staff to meet up with us summer for a well deserved meal! Once again, THANK YOU!

Nice. Very nice! ^OO^

Here is something posted on the Soundmachine board by Brian Tolzmann (DCW). I do not think he would mind me posting it at all:

I recently wrote in my Drum Corps World column about the time back in 1990 that the Raiders had their first ever weekend camp. The new corps thought they had their bugles for the weekend, but that fell through at the last minute. Four days before the camp the Raiders called George Hopkins to tell him of the problem. George opened up the Cadets equipment truck and told the Raiders to take as many horns as they needed. Just 2 months before that Hopkins did the same thing to help out the brand-new Nightbeat corps.

Unfortunately, many of theses good stories about George haven't been told.

They should be told. Why is it that people like to dwell on the negatives and ignore the positives. Most people on this forum know my attitude toward Hopkins's vision of drum corps, information I get mostly on DCP. This is the first I hear of his generosity to other corps.

Remember the "issue" in Denver with Pioneer using their practice field and all the misstories that spread like wildfire on DCP as well as other places? Stories like this need to spread more quickly. DCP is just the place to do it.

Thank you, George, for helping another corps become viable. Thank you to the OP for bringing it to my attention.

Your right about people not hearing the good that not just YEA! does but what other corps do too!

We've all heard the horror stories over the years, but seldom do we hear the good things.

This is a great for both organiztions!

Don't be mad at Bruno that's not what he actually meant...I think he's just trying to rag on me a little =P. He and I are good pals, right Bruno?

Your pal? psh.... :poke:

So saying thank you in a public place is worse than saying in a public place that you are going to say thank you privately. Got it.

I'm definitely not saying that. Thanks for twisting my words. I'm just saying even though public props are nice, a direct email will get their attention. That's all.

Wow, congrats Raiders.

No good deed goes undone. You helped us out when we were starting out.

I'm happy to see good things happening for you.

That was a very noble gesture by Hopkins and The Cadets.

Last year, George sent a wreath of flowers to the wake of our founder, Father Donovan.

It was a very touching show of solidarity with The Bridgemen at our time of loss.

And demonstrated a great respect for the activity.

He's a class act.

Yes, the trailer was a extremely generous donation on behalf of George & YEA. Being an alumni of the 86 Cadets it especially makes me proud. The corps I marched in helped the corps I love and nurtured since the beginning in 1990. One of the reasons we all love drum corps is the tradition of helping each other. THe loyalty and friendships we share in thoughout our lives in this activity can not be measured in money.

Thanks Holly! I guess that is why they say "What goes around comes around!"
