Dennis A. Banks

BANKS Dennis A. Banks, age 59, of Hodio Drive, Ansonia, entered into rest on Monday, June 11, 2007, at Griffin Hospital in Derby with his loving family by his side. He is the beloved husband of 36 years to Judith Thomas Banks. Dennis was born in Bridgeport on October 30, 1947, loving son of Caterina Ingrassia Banks of Bridgeport and the late George Banks, and he lived in Ansonia for over 28 years, coming from Bridgeport. He served his country as a Sergeant in the US Army in Vietnam. He is the President and CEO of Wepawaug-Flagg Federal Credit Union in Hamden, where he has worked for over 20 years. Dennis was also continuously active with many regional marching band and color guard organizations, starting with the St. Raphael's Golden Buccaneers in the 60's, where he was celebrated as the Buccaneer of the Year in 1968, and including the Connecticut Hurricanes, the CT Skylarks, and for the past 23 years with the Cheshire High School Marching Band and Winter Guard, among many others. He was instrumental in arranging entry for the Cheshire Marching Band into President Bill Clinton's inauguration, the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, CA, and the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. He was a coach with the Ansonia Little League, and served as Commissioner of the Ansonia-Derby Babe Ruth Baseball. An avid NY Jets fan, he was a season ticket holder for over 20 years. He also an enthusiastic wine connoisseur, and loved making, tasting, and traveling to find fine wines. Most of all, Dennis was a loving and devoted husband and father. He is the beloved father of Brian Thomas Banks and his fianc Karen Jaquith of Hamden, and Jaime Lynn Banks of Myrtle Beach, SC. He is also survived by a sister, Linda LoSchiavo and her husband Joseph, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Friends may greet the family at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby, on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. On Friday, friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 35 Washington Ave., Seymour. Burial with full military honors will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull. At the request of the family, memorial contributions can be made to the Dennis Banks Cheshire HS Marching Band and Color Guard Scholarship Fund, 40 Ridgecrest Dr., Cheshire, CT 06410, and to the American Society For Scleroderma Research (ASFSR) in Honor of Joy LoSchiavo, 3333 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06614.

Dennis was a true gentleman. I've known him since my days back in Skylarks.

Dennis was a great friend ,instructor and competitor. He helped lead the Hurricanes marching program to some DCA marching titles in the 80's. I also remember Dennis for his wonderful work, not only with the Skylarks, but also with the Bethel Silver Falcons winter guard!

WALK PROUD and Rest In Peace my Brother. Say Hi to Dad, Harvey, Joe and the rest.

i was so sorry to hear about Dennis Banks' passing. he will be missed by so many.

Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for Dennis's family and friends. Since I met him in 1993, he always made me feel welcome and part of the Hurricane family. A true gentle man has left us, way too early!

We'll miss you Dennis.......say Hi to Cos and my mom for me!!
