nhsalan
In 1984, Spirit arrived at a housing site in IL about 6 AM. Several of us had to help the food crew unload food from the truck when we got there and after being up for a while couldn't go back to sleep, so we decided to go find a local diner or something to grab some breakfast. We left and the corps wasn't going to get up until 9 AM so we were in no hurry to get back. We found a diner and had some breakfast. Noticed a lot of police activity while we were walking around but didn't think that much of it.... figured someone had a bad wreck or something. Got back to the school to find the corps manager raising #### with us about having left the housing site and not telling anyone where we were going (everyone else was asleep when we left). Seems there had been a murder about three blocks from the school and the suspect was on the loose. The police had stopped by and told the food crew that they needed to account for all our folks and to keep everyone inside until they received notice that their suspect had been isolated and caught. They go and find our sleeping bags empty and started freaking out...... woke up the corps manager so he could freak out with them.... Not a happy morning or a happy housing site. Made for an interesting rehearsal day. They still hadn't caught the guy by the time we left for the show. AA
uncle z
Hmmmmmm...... Chances are, 90% of you dont have a clue.... Regards, BD Yes, you really NEED to be from the ghetto to recognize what it is. <**> I guess since I don't live here, this is NOT ghetto--correct? testonator
True that. There are some areas of Orlando that are nice, but that area by the stadium, is not one of them. I got lost leaving the stadium after a show one year...not pleasant. Some of the signs for I-4 were knocked down to where you couldnt see them. McCheese
Oh yeah...good ol' Rochester. That's where I had my wallet taken out of the gym we were sleeping in. I remember coming in from rehearsal and having a member of Bones' staff tell me that someone found my wallet. Very confused, I responded, "But my wallet's not missing." as she handed MY wallet to me. Weird. However, the weirdest thing about it is all that was missing from my wallet was a picture of my ex-girlfriend. Who does that, honestly? thatonekid
Orlando. You pass so many liquor stores and porn shops on the way to the stadium its unbelievable. You call that ghetto. I call that Utopia :P I remember last summer we(madison), stayed in Buffalo, NY. Now, the housing site was a nice place and everything, but it was raining so hard that we didn't have rehearsal and just had a laundry day. The three buses separated and oh boy lol. The area the drum bus was at was quite certainly what is considered ghetto. Heard some gun shots through out the day, and overall feared that we might leave the Scouts with a few more holes in the show(thats right, we feared for the well being of the corps over our own lives. We roll like that). Needless to say though, the fried chicken there was AMAZING.
Maestro767
Our finals housing site in the Washington, DC area in 2000 was pretty ghetto.
MHSmirage
Baton Rouge. The cop at the stadium stopped us from from warming up in a certain area because it was"too dangerous" and wasn't a good part of town. We all wondered where this good part of Baton Rouge was after staying there. We stayed at a HS I think Roosevelt(or some other president). The AC had to have been 50 years old, that school was a dump. We were low brass sectionals plus the pit working a feature section when this kid goes riding by on a littlew bike with a little stereo duct taped to the handle bars thumpin as much bass as it could. That was just hysterical, not really dangerous. The football team tryed to get a little too friendly with our guard, they were really not a nice bunch. Sad, but most public schools in Louisiana are not up to the same standards that schools in most other states are. Unfortunately, due to the excessive government corruption and lack of care for it's education system, alot of schools in areas like Baton Rouge and Lafayette are extremely rundown and in need of serious overhauls. If you want a nice housing site in Louisiana, pray for a catholic school.
blitzcon
Orlando. You pass so many liquor stores and porn shops on the way to the stadium its unbelievable. You hit the nail on the head. We (Purdue All-American marching band) were just there this past December for the Champs Bowl and let me tell ya, that bus ride from our hotel was great. It was also especially great having to change in the middle of the street still about two blocks from the stadium with all our battery stuff being laid out on the sidewalk ready to be stolen or something. Orlando is a horrible place for a football game or drumcorps show.
