I've been noticing people criticizing Crown on DCP the past few years. To get it all in one place, because I think it's an interesting topic, what are some of your criticisms of the corps and their shows in recent years?

I hate that every time I watch them, I get this intense craving for french vanilla ice cream! This year is more of a minty vanilla craving!

That's all!

I hate that they are not out west this year or last year so we can enjoy them out west, without having to fly east. Other than that, I enjoy what they do

Where is the articulation, where is the style, hornline seems blah the whole time.

Yes, they sound good and know how to make that wall of sound and make cords fit together but, Where are the moments where they show ARTICULATIONS.

Now The Cadets very articulate, also cavaliers are too this year.

That is the one word that I have also associated with the cadets, especially in the 80's...articulation.

They're an interesting corps. I remember loving them when I marched in 2005 and also in 2006. My biggest problem was Triple Crown (which I already know I'm in the minority there). It just seemed silly to me, I guess TOO disney, but everyone has their own tastes I guess. But since then, Finis and this years outing have been amazing. This years show feels like they're borrowing styles from Phantom, Bluecoats, Blue Devils, and dare I say it...Star of Indiana at times.

Saw Crown last night at Decatur.....Horn line is anything but blah!!...Articulations are excellent. Sounds like you have only heard them through Fan Network mikes....

Identity. What's "their thing"? They'll get there, but right now it seems people describe their shows in terms of other corps. Once they find a niche and run with it they'll be golden.

Not so much about Crown as Crown fans. We get it, you like them...but they are not perfect gods. Crown is definitely riding the "can do no wrong" wave.

Crown is definitely playing that "Disney" esque card. It's hard to explain really... but I think the best way to say is that the ideas are sort of goody goody. I guess another way to describe it is cheesy. But it works for them. That's fine, I remember for Triple Crown they were beginning to really define who they were and what they do and it's showing. Seeing their show this year, they have definitely mixed the visual with the music VERY well and it will definitely be a show to contend with.

I think a lot of people criticize Crown because they are the "new" corps at the top and people feel threatened by that for whatever reason, but really that's great for drum corps. It is pretty early to say anything about them taking it all (although they very well could) and I'm glad people are excited by them. But let's take a look back at Bluecoats 2007 where they had an amazing start and fell down to 7th. Let me also say that last year for Regiment, Crown beat them at San Antonio and then they climbed all the way to the top. My point is that _anything_ could happen and that's what makes a good drum corps season in my opinion.

I def. saw them at the first five shows. It's not they don't play articulations well. It's there isn't much to it.
