bawker
Since we've had multiple folks ask for a single "Cadets 2008" thread (much like the "official" threads for Madison, Phantom, etc here), this is your new place to talk about the show. Keep in mind that most threads that are derivatives of this one that are created about the Cadets show will either by merged into this one, or closed and redirected here. This, in turn, will make the forums easier to navigate for folks . . .and, look at it this way, you now have one place you can either come in and argue at, or avoid altogether! Have at it! bawker
. . .a few of the most recent Cadets threads have been closed and redirected to post here. Thanks for your consideration and patronage of DCP, and, as always with threads here, please make use of the "Report" button in the lower left hand part of each post if you need to bring something to the attention of the Community Administrator. Thanks!

illinidale
Cadets know how to clean the heck out of their shows. They have great horns, great drummers, and great spinners. In '07 it was too bad their show was overwhelmed by lame narration, they might well have won if they had just turned off the "blah blah blah". Things are getting tougher in '08. If Cadets turn off their narration this year they might beat Crown.
Wadep66
.......waits for the flaming to begin I agree with several posters on here that the problem isn't so much the narration as the content. You really cannot tell a life story of a cancer survivor and have it have emotional impact in 11.5 minutes. The narration is now so whittled down that it is almost irrelevant. I didnt like narration last year, and I dont like it this year, but seriously, wth are you talking about?? All evidence points to the (sad) fact that the cadet's use of narration is well received from a GE standpoint (which is the only real place it 'might' be judged). They tied for first last year in GE, and clearly lost for other reasons (drums and guard were 4th). Regardless of whether you, or I, think the shows would be better without talking, dont try and tell me they would magically score better without it. You wind up looking fairly ignorant.... I actually agree with most of this. Also, given the history of continuous cleaning towards the end of a season by Cadets, I think it is possible for them to get up into the top 3. I also think if they hadn't had as many falls as they did in San Antonio, the scores would have been a lot closer. Just an opinion and experience from marching Cadets. We'll see what happens in the remainder of the season. I know that I am ###### I am not going to be able to attend finals. Thanks for the thread bawker. Unfortunately for them, they got the worst possible draw in SA, and have the same draw for some reason in Murfreesboro and Atlanta. Its tough getting a top 3 placement when you're seeded 6th every night, but I guess they're up against the same challenge corps like Crown and Bloo have been against for years (being so obviously better than the corps ahead of you that judges actually make the call.) If they can get top 3 by A-town, then I could see a push for more at finals, although I think a ring is very unlikely. Besides...I actually LIKE crown and phantom this year, and especially in the case of crown...i'd almost rather see them in the top 3. I'll finally get to make a real judgement about all these shows in a week or so...

Very well said......I often wonder if DCP or even the internet existed 20 , 30 years ago how many VK...Bridgemen...etc etc would be bashed. Its easy to go back now and say how entertaining these wonderful corps were BUT I would bet there would be just as many bashers because I know people back then didnt think that was drum corps ( or at least a winner ) either. Like it's said if there were TV when Roosevelt was Pres. he probably wouldnt have been elected because noone votes for a Pres. in a wheelchair. Kind of makes ya think. ( Ok maybe i ONLY THINK OF SUCH STUPID THINGS..LOL..SORRY )
