kevingamin Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 We're in the middle of the show now, very dark and foreboding, almost medieval in nature. Quote
keyp Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 There are some really nice things happening on the field. I wish they had taken more time to balance percussion to brass. Bass drums seem to play the same volume and often over power the ensemble at moments. Quote
kevingamin Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 I like how this piece develops. I'm assuming it's Lux Aeterna as I don't hear any Adagio for Strings in the show. Horns put down their instruments to do some hand movements, but it's not very clean and just seems to be filler during a pit interlude. Quote
kevingamin Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 Getting some great sound from the three contras, like taking a bath in chocolate ($1 to Michael Cesario). Quote
keyp Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 I really can appreciate how they were able to bring things WAY down for the contrasting movement. Again, the percussion over balanced when they entered. Quote
kevingamin Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 John Rutter's Gloria, which I haven't heard since Cavaliers did it in '89. When the brass is moving, they do not crescendo to the impact to add effect. Quote
kevingamin Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 Company front moving across the field, with rotating gates during major hits. Quote
kevingamin Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 I agree with Key - Percussion is just loud all the time. Any shaping the brass does is lost as a result. Quote
