kenweaver Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 (edited) Hello, I am writing this just to share a few of my thoughts on the current DCA schedule. Obviously, for many reasons, there are less shows, but the shows that are on the schedule make it difficult to see every corps as the lineups are a bit odd. Here's what I found: There is alot of talk about the Hurricanes and how they are looking to be very competitive. Not sure why, but they will not see the Buccaneers til August. This seems a bit odd. Why is Empire not in Wildwood? They usually are there and do not have another competition that weekend. Are they not ready? Odd. June 27th - usually Empire and/or Bucs are in the Bridgeport show, not this year. Why? July 11th - usually the Bucs are at the Grand Prix, not this year. It looks like Bucs and Empire are off that weekend, even though there are 2 competitions. Odd. - CORRECTED - yes, Bucs, Hurcs and Cabs are in attendance here. No need for alarm. July 18th - The Lewisburg show has usually been a good setup for the Kingston regional show, but hard to say that with only 4 corps in the show. Odd. July 25th - one competition on the schedule with no Bucs, no Bush, no Cabs. Another camp weekend? August 1st - finally, a real competitive lineup. This seems a bit late in the season though. August 8 - Decent lineup for Kingston but isn't this a regional show? Certainly doesn't look like it with only 6 corps. I think Bucs are usually off this weekend, so that is expected. August 22 - Holy cow, 4 DCA shows this evening but no Buccaneers. How can DCA afford to not have the Bucs at one of them? I have no insight on these odd scheduling issues, but it seems odd that the Bucs would only see the Hurcs once before Prelims. Seems to me like there are more camp weekends for the Bucs than previous seasons. Is this by choice? Feel free to look for conspiracy, but it just looks odd to me. Thoughts? Excellent anaysis of who is where and when ... most interesting is the no Hurcs and Bucs match up until August ... I thought that would happen in July at the Cabs show ... I can only surmise that the ecomomy has taken its toll on travel for corps and how many top corps any sponsor is able to lure based on their budget ... all corps do not get equal performance fees, and a show that attempts to have several top-tier corps is going to have to put up a considerable amount of $$ ... this all in a falling amount of dicresionary spending for the fans attending ... I don't think it's like the old DCA days wher Mickey said "you go here this year and you won't have to go next year" to a corps ... Andy "guess it will heat up in August" Lisko Quote
LegalEagle50 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 The Bucs and Hurcs are both listed for the Cab's show in July ~ did something happen to change that?? Quote
kenweaver Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 Liz, You are correct. I see the Cabs, Hurcs and Bucs at the Grand Prix. Not sure how I missed this. So, that is an early season matchup that should be interesting to watch. Quote

Methinks you may need to visit this site more often. Your questions involve a compelation of logistical situations ( I.E. financial, time constraints, travel....etc.) Long story short.........? In heaven there WOULD be BEER. NOTE: DCA is a rule making body goverened by the wishes of the eligable voting participanting member Corps'. Scheduling is NOT goverened by DCA, per se, but acts as a body to coordinate All Age Drum Corps' activities . Oh Crap...........I just overstepped my boundries. The above is just how ..I...see it. Shurly Mr. Peashey will correct me. Even simpler........go to the DCA website and read their mission statement. (#$@^ Labatt's anyway) Quote
Bond624 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 The Bucs and Hurcs are both listed for the Cab's show in July ~ did something happen to change that?? Nope all is still the same as far as I know. They still have the show on their calendar. The only thing that changed with the Grand Prix is the location which is in Wayne but everyone has known about that for a while now. Jeff said it all $$$. July 25th We have been taking off around that time for the last few years. We get to do what others do during the summer. Beach BBQ visit family etc. RECHARGE. Quote
Tom D'Bomb Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 biggest reason......$$$$$$$$$$ Exactly. Teams have to pick their spots. Quote
CoHmempho04 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I believe they should change this from DCA schedule to Why not that many Bucs shows? Quote
CorpsBuff Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 (edited) Cabs are doing 9 shows before DCA weekend, which is the same amount we did last year (I originally thought it was more). It's been brought up in (this thread) that a lot of corps are doing less shows than last year. I would also think that money is the issue but then again some corps are doing more than last year, not just Cabs. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
