gongfunker Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Can anyone tell me what the finals lineup was in 1988. I know that they went on by draw. Please help. Thanks. Quote

Cop Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Blue DevilsSanta Clara Vanguard Cavaliers Madison Scouts Garfield Cadets The order of appearance on "from the pressbox" is not correct. I like this trivia: Even after the draw, only two corps were out of their correct spots in the top five. Blue Devils flip flop with Cavies Santa Clara Vanguard went on at correct placement. Cavaliers flip flop with BD. BD would have gone on here after placing 2nd in prelims Madison Scouts went on correct spot. Won prelims and top spot behind 87 champs Garfield Cadets went on correct placement. Last spot due to the 1987 championship Quote
84BDsop Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 (edited) Was 89 the first year the defending champ didn't go on last?? Edited March 10, 2010 by 84BDsop Quote
bluecoats88 Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Was 89 the first year the defending champ didn't go on last?? I believe so since this was the first year they went to the top 5 live and they wanted to make sure that the 5 corps shown were the top 5. Quote

That doesn't seem to make a lot of sense...the top 5 is the top 5 regardless....and no one could've predicted that Madison would drop 6 places in one year. Quote

Good thing PBS no longer shows DCI - Phantom 2009 could have messed things up a bit. Quote
Scout Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I believe so since this was the first year they went to the top 5 live and they wanted to make sure that the 5 corps shown were the top 5. The first year with the live Top-5 was 1985. I believe the last year was 1990. Quote
perc2100 Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 The first year with the live Top-5 was 1985. I believe the last year was 1990. They had Top 5 (maybe it was six, don't remember) in 1993 at least in some markets. I still have the vhs recorded from my aunt's PBS broadcast. Come to think of it, it might not have been live, I honestly don't remember. I remember the 1992 Top 6 'live' type broadcast had Phantom on as 6th, which made me upset since I loved Crossmen's show that year. I can't remember anymore if they were broadcast live, but I have tapes from 92 and 93 that were the full Top 6 shows, I think, and I vaguely remember them being broadcast live in my Aunt's PBS market.
