  1. These captions crack me up! Good job, drillcheck1.
  2. This commentary reminds me of a DCI vignette of the late 80s or early 90s, regarding VK. Nice job, Ray, commending the crowd-pleasing corps!
  3. Fargo Tar! BAC also dug some turf from Manning Bowl for the end of tour.
  4. I have two clip boards and many SCSU maps in my car from the other night. I'll bring them to Lawrence. My high-point of the night was telling Garfield's drum line that they couldn't warm up where they wanted. Small pleasures... Remember I went through the parking garage to check if anyone had left their car lights on? I found one and had Ace announce it. When I left at 11:30, the car was being jump started. None of the people in the car had heard the announcement. Oh, well. We strive to do the best for our customers at BAC.
  5. I try to cover western Mass., but I can ony do so many! Any brass player from drum corps can give an honorable sounding of Taps - I'm an oboist! I use a 3-valve G from Targets. If anyone can get me info on how to return the horn to the proper hands, please do so.
  6. As there is no year mentioned in the question, I will add BAC '90 and BD '93. Oops ... just noticed that the question did ask about this year.
  7. I am so happy to see a 3rd New England drum corps pounding on the Top 25 door!
  8. Little Rock, AR - 1991 - the biggest cockroach any of us had seen. We named it Waldo.
  9. BAC 1991 - For early season, local shows we drove or rode a school bus. Once we were on tour (7/20, I believe), coach.
  10. BAC comes out with 3rd highest "first score of the season," behind Garfield and PR. I'd be content if BAC is #3 on "last score of the season!"
  11. It was great to have BD at the BAC home show last year. Both corps sizzled last year - like bacon!
  12. Love to be there, but can't. See you in Lawrence!
  13. I met a Blue Devil the other night, and talked about 1991. When I told him we had 48 horns that year (big BAC hornline at that time), he replied "Wow, I didn't realize that sound came out of such a small hornline!" That always feels good.
  14. Give Academy 1 point for "Best Pun in Title" caption.
  15. I was going to write this same exact post, except for inserting BAC for Colts.
  16. As I say every time this question is asked (annually), I love 90 and 91. My favorite remains 92. 97 is also up there.
  17. Thanks, Roger. I just fixed my facebook page with your help! Check out anaturalmusicschool on facebook. It should work now!
  18. I believe I am the only Boston Crusader who ever played hardart in my beloved USND@H marching band (aka The Stumblin' Herd). I understand Stumblin' Herd was one of the first college bands to use electonics, as long as the generator wasn't needed for milking. A lot of INT guys march there. Guys from Bridgmen and VK tried marching there, but usually found themselves to stoic, and would quit.
  19. As a Board Member (former since 6/30/11) of the Massachusetts Music Educators Association, I am extremely pleased with DCP's acknowledgement of Massachusetts' lack of HS bands and drum corps. Many fine points have been made. UMass-Amherst is not (in New England terms) near Boston, and many of the band kids BITD went to Garfield and XMen. UMass-Lowell is nearby, but many of their kids go to Spartans or now-defunct East Coast Jazz, as the UML Band Director arranged brass for both groups. I know one young lady who marched my SCV for the last couple of years. When she graduates, she'll be snapped up by some mid-western school who wants her expertise. As Craig stated, NESBA is the leading HS marching organization, with MICCA also have MB shows. The bands are usually less than 75 kids. My local HS band fielded 14 kids last year, and that included kids from grades 7-12! Massachusetts music is dire. I have been unimployed for 15 months, and my county has lost 2 more music positions this summer, that I know of. I ripped tickets in Lawrence, and tried to psych up the kids for the show. I told every elementary school kid "Cheer really loud whenever the group stops playing!" I was happy to hear youngsters follow my direction, but the 16 year old were absent. So, for next year - If you are a Massachusetts resident: take a couple teenagers to their first DC show. As we know, once you've seen it, you're hooked. Take a school committee member! I hit the trifecta with my neighbors: a 14 year old trombone player, mom on school committee, dad on technical school committee. Call, write, text the politicians and tell them we want pre-proposition 2-1/2 bands back in Massachusetts! Did you realize Senator Rosenberg plays tuba!?!?! Dartmouth, New Bedford, Billerica, Norwood: This is our pool. Get your kids to a show. For grant money, contact the local cultural council. Maybe they could pay for tickets. The BAC bari line of 2010 was larger than the whole BAC horn line of mid 1980s. The lack of Massachusetts music is not new. NO GAVA about scores, but we do about music future! God bless, and I'll see you in Lawrence in 2012.
