  1. Does anybody have an mp3 file of that performance? I would be surprised if there were no recording of this history making event. if anyone has one, I would like to add it to the POCM (Preserve Our Corps Memories)archives for posterity. You can contact me @ wilt14487@aol.com. Thanks
  2. Could that be Mike "this is definitely my last year" Covell from Crusaders?
  3. Welcome home Tom, I saw Joey D this morning and told him you would be in for a haircut soon. He's looking forward to seeing you. Do you have a place yet? If you need any help getting settled, just give me a call, I owe you one.
  4. 1975 Phoenix was a labor of love for everyone involved. It was a work in progress that ended before it was finished. The biggest mistake was not keeping the same book in 76. DCA had only seen it once. What a trip it was while it lasted. Happy Holidays to all of my Phoenix Brothers & Sisters
  5. The corps is Geneva Appleknockers, Loved that French Foriegn Legion head dress thing. I know they wore that uniform in 1955 Miami AL Nationals, and I also know they had the military uniform with the shako in 1959. So I will say between 1955 and 1958. Jack Bullock (middle) and Kenny Petersen (right). No clue who the guy on the left is.
  6. That's so cool, I want one. Would you give one to Joe to send to me? I hope open house is a huge success.
  7. Coz was great, but I hated playing all those whole notes back in 63, LOL. Where did you say my invite was Donny? I know, I won't hold my breath.
  8. Key of G, or Bb, it's all good. A lot of folks complained when we went to valve-rotory. I bet most of you wouldn't be able to tell which were being played just by listening. As a GR Alumnus, I wish you well in the future. Benny Ghostriders 97-04 2000 DCA Champions
  9. I'm going to miss meeting up with Fuzzy at shows and talking old times over a brew in the parking lot. Fuzzy was a machine when it came to the snare, he was the best of his era. I don't think anyone has mentioned it, but calling hours are Saturday from 10 till noon at Dierna Funeral Home, 2309Culver Road (near Norton St.) here in Rochester. A service will be held at noon following viewing. :(
  10. Well folks, Your in for more of the weather we have had since mid April. Only difference is we are finally dropping out of the 90's and into the 80's and 70's. Perfect Drum Corps weather. No sign of rain after Thursday morning. I hope you all have a great time in my home town. WELCOME TO RACHA CHA CHA http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/1462...Link_undeclared
  11. Great show last night top to bottom. I am not writing a review, but I will share a few observations as a fan. Cru could surprise a lot of people. Great guard about 36 in numbers, the start of a fine percussion section, still quite dirty, but they are young and they will work hard to improve. Nice new uniforms. Genevieve (sp) was simply amazing with her bari solo/duet in Brig's balad (First Time Ever I Saw Your Face). It brought tears to my eyes. What volume, control, range, finese, feeling and whatever else. She has it all. Sorry to hear she went down with heat stroke after the show. I hope she is OK. Cabs snares are all over the field and man can they play well while moving at such a big step. Guard is fantastic. Brass was not clean in the opener. Sops are draging while attempting to articulate some very tough licks. Needs a lot of work. I really miss the fantastic screamers that Cabs were always famous for. Where's Frank or Curt when you really need them. I also miss Jimmy out front. Empire was best of show in my oppinion. Joey, Jeff & Ritchie do Maynard justice. Just a great show. One sugestion. Next year, get St. Joe's to play while the scores are being tabulated. There was at least 25 minutes of nothing while the corps were assembling for retreat. MSJ Alumni are from the area and I don't see why they shouldn't fill the dead time. They were at the DCI show in Buffalo on Friday night and they brought the house down. Great show and the weather was FANtastic. Thanks Allen and Empire Statesmen for a wonderful evening of entertainment. Bucky, you are still the best anouncer in Rochester. DCA Championships is going to be a barn burner, don't miss it. Benny
  12. Well said, My sentiments exactly. The RPD were everywhere to insure that everyone and their vehicles were safe. I heard of nobody who was assaulted, or vehicles vandalized, not to mention the officers were very courteous and friendly. Parking was no problem if you followed the officers directions. As far as organizing, Alan and the crew had the most well organized weekend I've seen, and I go back to the beginning of DCA Championships. How about the flights in and out of Rochester? At Scranton, Renegades had to fly into Newark, NJ and rent busses to take them to Scranton. Not a problem in Rochester. Hotel accommodations were first class. Good Restaurants all over. I&E venue and party...the best. Other than weather related issues, I haven't heard any complaints that are well founded. So suck it up, quit your #####ing and go to Rochester this year with a good attitude. <edited comment - circumventing the filters is most definitely against guidelines - jm>
  13. Only in your world. The US is Properly named the "United States of America". Not the "United States of North America". I'm just saying.
  14. I don't see the neglect. Canada was still in North America the last time I checked
  15. Dick produced some great lines for Joe's all throughout the 60's. He was a soft spoken giant who always got results. Sad news indeed.
  16. When was that Donny? I know we got a 2 point penaly in 64 for not carrying the AL flag in the A-Section... which put us in third behind the Yankees and Starlighters, But I never knew Joe's was DQ'd for over-aged members. Must have been after I went in the service in 66.
  17. St. Joe's has been in SIB nine out of the last 13 years.
  18. Cru is not the same corps they were in 75. Todays Cru is under the direction of Mike Linton (Phoenix Member). I think last years book was written by Donny Allen (Phoenix Member) or Corky Fabrezio (Phoenix Member) There are several former Phoenix involved in Cru's Management and Instructional Teams. I don't know if any of that has anything to do with last year's book selection, but it it a good possibility.
  19. Sunday, October 29th. Wife of John, Mother of Aaron and Jacob. Sue fought a valiant 5 year battle with cancer. She was one month shy of her 60th birthday Sue was a colorguard member of the 1972 American Legion National Champion Rochester Crusaders, as well as Rochester Phoenix, and for the past 15 years Sue and John were members of St. Joe's Alumni. Sue's last performance was at this year's DCA Alumni Spectacular. Sue will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. there is a place in Heaven's Corps reserved for her. Sue Baldwin's Memorial Service: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 11th at the Thomas Funeral Chapel, 4545 Lake Ave, Rochester. Calling hours are from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. John invites all of Sue's family and friends to get together afterwards and celebrate Sue's life at the Windjammer Bar & Grill, 4695 Lake Ave. He requests that everyone dress casually for these gatherings. He specifically requested no suits and ties and that we wear our corps colors. John's address is 55 Grassmere Park, Rochester, NY 14612.
