  1. Altough not on the DCI website, our director has told us that CorpsVets will again be performing in the Southeastern Championships in Atlanta on July 14.
  2. I know I did my part to drink $771.42 worth of beer. I had the hangover to prove it. Thank God I wasn't performing last year...
  3. Wow! Get this guy a job at the weather channel. Predicting the weather 10 1/2 months in advance? 40% chance of rain on Labor Day Weekend 2007? I can't get my local weatherman to tell me about next Tuesday...
  4. Ya'll talk funny! Nice spot. Good luck to ya'll in '07!
  5. What are the chances of creating an official DCA show out west? Might be easier to attract East Coast Corps if it were an official contest and scored on DCA sheets by DCA judges. Just a thought.
  6. Man that pavement is hot! We should've worn shoes!
  7. Just because singing is "allowed", doesn't necessarily mean that it "belongs". Don't get those two confused.
  8. What better way for the CorpsVets to celebrate their 10th anniversary than with a West Coast Tour?!?! Lee, call Dave Stollberg. Make it happen!
  9. I've got a tat of a bugle on my left bicep. There's a musical staff intertwined in it, with 3 measures of the onfield warmup we played my first year with the corps. Of my 7 tats, definately the most special, and meaningful, one that I have.
  10. She wasn't off key the whole time. Just once or twice that I noticed. I don't know if her mike was turned up too loud, or if they purposely decided to cover up some gorgeous brass sound...
  11. It makes more sense, now that I know the title. I saw the Powder Springs show, not knowing the theme. I kept asking the guy next to me why they had an albino on the field. (Not a slight against albinos, I just couldn't figure out what he was supposed to be.) There was way too much going on, all at once. I could never figure out where I was supposed to be watching. Also, the singer covered up the ballad. I could barely here the horns, and when I did, it was because the singer was off key. I never did understand last year's show, either. Call me old fashioned, but all I need out of a show is some high, loud notes. All this abstract, think about it type shows makes my head hurt.
  12. I had always wanted to march drum corps, especially after Freddie Martin, my high school's brass instructor (his brother Dan was our band director) invited me to Spirit's open house in November, 1997. I went, and was hooked. Unfortunately, circumstances came up after graduating hs in 98, and I couldn't march. Fast forward to October of 2000. I was at the Cobb County Exhibition for High School bands, held at McEachern High School, the same school which now hosts the Atlanta Brass Classic. I was in the stands with a friend of mine who had just aged out of Spirit. The last band before intermission had just finished, and we were watching them march off the field. A big giant of a man, who I later found out was Big Ken (Huff), was on the track talking to a judge. He was wearing his CorpsVets jacket, which, at his size, was the size of a billboard. I looked over to my friend I was with, and said "CorpsVets? Senior Drum Corps? What the #### is that?" He looked back at me with a big grin and said "That's the drum corps we're joining this year!" "Nah, you just aged out. You can't march anymore. Besides, I can't take the summer off." He then proceeded to tell me about this thing called senior corps, where it didn't matter how old you were. I rushed home after the show, hopped on the internet, and started reading about the CorpsVets. I was shocked. I had no idea! I couldn't wait for November and open house to arrive. When it finally did, we rolled up an hour late. (For those that knew Paul and me, that was actually early!) The corps was in stretching block outside. They stopped the stretches, introduced themselves to us, and pointed us to our section. After playing my first note in horn arc, I was hooked! I finally saw my first senior corps show after someone taped our first runthrough.
  13. I wouldn't say it's next to impossible. In fact, far from it. The Atlanta CorpVets All Age Drum and Bugle Corps (DCA member corps, DCA Southern Regional Champions) will be doing their full field performance at 3 local DCI shows this summer: 6/23- Altanta Brass Classic, Powder Springs, GA 7/18- Spirit of America, Jacksonville, AL 7/29- DCI Southeastern Championships, Atlanta, GA This will be thier 9th exhibition at the JSU show, and 2nd at Powder Springs.
  14. Are these small dents and dings something that could be removed from a repair shop?
