  1. Toss with your teeth, catch with your butt cheeks.......throw in a double pirouette underneath the toss.
  2. NO JOKE. Seems this year the judges don't have a clue either. I would appreciate WGI and the circuits more if they would do a bit more education for judges. Showing a few videos of championships doesn't cut it. Not everyone has cookie cutter shows....although if it keeps going like this, all shows will look and sound the same. I miss the days when guards had their own idenitiy.
  3. I'm am preparing myself for what antics are sure to happen at headquarters this year!
  4. As with any other activity that involves emotions, pubescent teens, pubescent adults, stage moms, booster dads, sequins and lame' there will ALWAYS be shady acts of drama, feuds and sabotage.
  5. Play the game like everyone else.
  6. Just remember Oak Ridge HS SO did it first and did it WELL in 2008
  7. I'll play: HS: 4 years of both color and winter guard College: 3 years at University of Miami marching band Ind. winterguard: 2 years Teaching ..... Corps: 3 years HS programs: 10 years Other Independents: 5 years Translation: I'm too old to do the cool stuff with the youngsters, but to young to know all the tricks of the trade.
  8. I spent the last 10 years trying to forget the pain and sorrow my Forte blade gave me. I'll never forget the first day I spun my King.....it was like the clouds parted and a chorus of angels sang
  9. Let's face facts people.....it's the middle of the season. For many of these independent guards, it's run by a member or staff..... they don't always have the time. They work the independent on the weekend, the high school guard during the week, most have a 'real' job or go to college too. Cut them a break! Not everyone has a full time or even part time IT guy or webdeveloper. The fans will find a way to follow them either on here (hello, we are the BIGGEST fans and do our gossiping on here), WGI.org or circuit sites....or even, IDK....GO TO THE SHOWS?! Yes, in a perfect world I wish everyone would update everything all the time. Until money falls from the sky or we find a way to poop it out, I'm afraid while IN season, you will have to just deal. /end soapbox
  10. 2009: The year of crap popping out of rolled flag silks. You know what I'm talking about. Big flag feature and toss, surprise burst of color and then the rose petals or feathers flutter to the ground. It was creative the first time, but now it's begining to be overkill. I do like the way CyFalls is putting the perverbial spin on it. The petals become the floor, which is to look like a Monet painting.
  11. Nice to know I have atleast ONE ReGUARDless of the results, I'm thinking this regional is going to be a good one.
  12. WGI gave free access to all instructors who's guards participated in WGI regionals and championships. Also they had videos almost weekly for everyone to look at. Due to money (I suppose) they will not be giving free access anymore. After all, who's the biggest fans? Instructors and performers :)
  13. Here's my take on it: 1. Cinco Ranch 2. The Woodlands 3. Clements then in any order but finalist: Taylor Friendswood Bryan Mansfield Spring Fossil Ridge Lampasas Round Rock Dripping Springs Clear Brook CyWoods Tomball
  14. "potpourri, poppers and pine-sol"! I tend to reek of patchouli, pork rinds and petrol.
  15. Opening an thread to discuss the Dayton, Houston, Ft Lauderdale, and Riverside regionals. I will be at the Houston regional with my guard and as a fan of others...... After seeing the last two TCGC shows, I'm rooting for Cinco Ranch to take 1st in Sch A. Good luck to Americas HS at the Riverside Regional!
  16. Please don't think that just because this one poster is from Miami, ALL folks from down south are that obnoxious. - Univ of Miami Graduate, Former Alliance of Miami Member, and beach comber.
  17. How sad to slam kids for their hard work. Being that this was your 4th post and given the errors, I am assuming your a kid yourself. The guards in your "review" work just as hard as you do throughout the year. Of course the first show isn't perfect. It's unfair to compare the end of last season to the start of this season. Trainning and refining will go on all this season and shows will take shape. It's one thing to have an opinion, but your scathing review is simply over the line. Like mama says, if you can't say something nice, shut your trap.
  18. This whole thread is delightfully tacky
  19. Ok so I've put it off long enough..... TCGC CySprings show tidbits: First, I'm going to complement Code Black world in the first show. The guard starts and ends the show with a superb dance feature. There are lots of tasty tosses, exchanges and floor flag work that will wow the crowd a the Houston WGI regional. That's all I'll say about that :) Second, a VERY BIG to KC Michaels' work with Westfield! It was the return of class and sophistication for the 11 time state champions. Shades of pink and strong hands made this show. Wish I could remember the name of the soundtrack. Third, two words: OAK RIDGE! All I can say is they were by far the best movers of the night. Gating props that change staging with a strong sabre book and OMG that soloist! That's all I'll say on here about that. Some great things happening in the circuit this year. Sch A class is going to be super competitive.
  20. I could TOTALLY get behind the Shaw/Cartwright nominations.
  21. I've never been apart of nor taken a guard to a two day power regional before. Could someone fill me in on the schedule for this? Is it prelims Saturday, finals Sunday? Trying to plan the overnighter in Dallas :)
  22. THEY FALL APART. After our first rehearsal last fall, we had 11-15 pairs that already tore or ripped. We too use Talon gloves :)
  23. I Heart WGM! They are unapologetic in their offbeat-rockedout, 1 part rockabilly baditude, 2 parts punk style. I really hope they come up and out next year :) I only wish I lived a few hours closer.
  24. As far as a trusty easy to use product to create soundtracks to, I would go with Sonic Foundry's Acid and/or ProTools. Super easy to understand for budding mixers.
