  1. My friend. I ask my friends IN the drum corps world.. ALL the time.. IF there IS drum and bugle corps.. SADLY.. I'm advised.. There isn't a DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS to be found. I would advise you to take your concerns up with the "administration". If you can't? Make as much freaking noise HERE as you can. Sharon
  2. Not for nothing.. Is this sort of thing the norm here?? Rile up anyone posters he/she can?? And then stand back and see what happens? If so? DCP administrators need to re-evaluate.. some of their "valued" posters. THAT person can continue to post on DCP? I don't get it. Sharon Sharon
  3. Depends on just one thing. You! And how you feel about what you want to do. Where you want to go. Etc.. etc.. etc.. Sharon
  4. Not for nothing.. But there wasn't one person that EVER had to explain to me (as a participant) what you just did.. And further divides those that claim to be IN a drum and bugle corps nowadays. Hope THAT helps. (Although.. I doubt it) :) Sharon
  5. I would never deny you the right to inform what you absolutely know.. But I know this.. You aren't informed on what comprises of a drum and bugle corps. Y'all can claim all you want on what a bugle is. I don't have any musical background. But I can absolutely CLAIM what a drum and bugle corps is. WAIT.. Make it.. what it WAS.. Much better.. Sharon
  6. As a sole dissenter.. I'm sorry that DCA has resorted to competing with junior drum corps for members. I believe the association didn't do (hasn't done) it's job when it counted. Recruiting amongst the ranks of junior corps members as they aged out. As I joined a DCA corps of my own volition at the age of 19.. I don't count. How many times does it hurt DCA to watch a broadcast of DCI and the volumes of kids lamenting the fact that they will not be able to march anymore? DCA done anything about that? NO! Unless the kid progressed on his/her own? Nada. Instead.. the administration is relying on former DCI members that are motivated to continue their careers as former DCI competitors to keep going. One way to reinvigorate DCA? Sure! The easiest way. I always thought that DCA was better than that. For me? That's what attracted me.. I thought DCA was BETTER than DCI.. DCA has ALWAYS attracted minors that couldn't swing marching in junior corps. Always.. Sharon
  7. Not for nothing.. But if I were you.. I wouldn't decline affiliation with anyone trying to further the 27th name. IMO.. it's a ridiculous notion to NOT encourage any form of drum corps. Even those that still claim their heritage with the 27th Lancers. The alumni corps were a great thing to witness.. But I know what consisted of that corps. And to project the Light Brigade as something LESS than what was put on the field in 1994? Is disingenuous at best. Sharon
  8. Go to any concert. Even orchestras.. there is a drum solo. Go to a show geared towards the kids? There IS a drum solo. That's my take. Sharon
  9. The season that made me cry was my very last season in junior drum and bugle corps. I was so relieved that my time, effort (after reconstructing the ENTIRE first half of the show) AND money was rewarded with a chance to compete in finals.. I cried and cried and cried. Lots of people know what it's like to be in 12th place.. by a smidgin.. Yeesh. And after 12 years.. I was done. THAT was IT for me. Well.. then I marched in DCA. That's a whole nother subject! :) Sharon
  10. Imo.. the alumni experience.. depends on one's point of view. Here is mine. I marched locally in junior corps for six years Went on to the national stage in a junior corps located next door to my state for three years. Went on to march in a senior corps located two states away for 1 year less than the corps went defunct. And finally marched in the alumni corps. Resurrected for one year. All of this encompassed.. 30 years. To ME? That's marching in an alumni corps. For you? It may be different. May I say though? I don't doubt for one second.. that you would have any trouble doing what you want to in alumni drum corps IF you just want to. I found out that alumni drum corps succeed because they "want" to. Sharon
  11. From my junior years to senior years? Very. Sharon P
  12. Hmm.. I would never believe that. What I do believe is two fold. A marketing tool that was always part of DCA.. Of which I'm a product of. I was 19 when I started marching with a DCA corps. DCA has always been an alternative to DCI. And competition of bodies. I believe that DCA is now competing for the younger crowd. I believe that the circuit knows they can recruit younger than 22 year olds and they will. Personally.. I think that if a minor has the opportunity to march in junior corps? They should. Why? Because I've always believed it made DCA better. When the minor gets there. Sharon
  13. And DCA corps are advertising their circuit as the "next" great thing for drum and bugle corps? I think not. Sharon PS: Talk about capitulating to DCI! JHC... I thought (once upon a time) it was a COLORGUARD thing!!! IMHO.. what a waste of talent.
  14. I disagree.. Hundreds... if not thousands of corps were pushed out of existence. Via the organization of DCI. One only has to look at the majority of the winning corps that make up DCI.. as a reference. One has to look at the organization of DCI two ways.. the promotion of drum and bugle corps at large? Or a way to ultimately WIN. Personally? I would have loved to WIN! But not at the expense of losing hundreds (if not thousands) of drum and bugles corps.. because the corps could not compete. Sharon
  15. Hmm... What is the definition of clean? IMO.. the question is.. given your comparisons.. WHAT corps can claim the definition of "Clean".. If a 2005 corps was - in YOUR acceptable parameters - clean? THERE it is.. No need to bring up other corps from other eras. Comparing apples to oranges. For myself? I liked the apples.. THEY were clean. The oranges.. changed (by changing the rules) what is clean. Sharon
  16. Really? I'm an alumni. 1970 thru 1977. A product of the Class C program.. The Elks.. I've never known the Spartans to originate a thing? Wow! Sharon 1970 - 1974 Elks Trojans (Didn't make the 1969 edition of the corps) 1975 - 1977 Spartans
  17. I believe that the Cadets are a marching band. Just ask their leader. And anyone else that he can influence. Imagine the hundreds of thousands of folks that have marched in DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS that can no longer even identify? What a waste of time and effort. Anniliated... in just 10 years. :) Sharon
  18. Very Interesting Topic. Those folks that are just about frantic... I'm sure you have a 'well' of information that can be tapped. Go for it! Sharon PS: I'll admit that I could contribute.
