Is the turf at Tenn Tech really black like it looks in the photo? Yikes... that'll be HOT!

Marching with a brother/sister
jacquesb replied to gottalovit's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I marched with my brother in high school and college, but we alternated years in junior corps. We did have the opportunity to march together in senior corps, which was a blast. Since he was hornline and I was drumline there really wasn't any rivalry involved, which made it more fun, IMHO. -
SCV, Madison, Spirit up Blue Devils, Crown, BAC down

27th Lancers made a change in 1981.... if you watch the video (from Whitewater that year) and compare it to the finals audio, they modified the end to Niner Two. I liked the earlier version better. -Jack

Nope, that definitely is not Spirit. -Jack

I think it was deemed too expensive to get all the equipment, etc, to Canada for finals. Or something like that...

No, I still don't like Star's '93 show. Yes, it was innovative. But I still skip over it whenever it comes up on my iPod.

1985 Outstanding Drum Major Award
jacquesb replied to From The Pressbox's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
Yes, that's him. And much better than 11th place, IMHO! -
Your first Drum Corps Video?
jacquesb replied to torn8o's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I attended my first show in 1979, but only saw two corps before it was rained out. My high school band director had the 1979 record albums, and that was what really got me excited about drum corps. I recorded the 1980 championships on PBS, which was broadcast after I marched my first season. I still have that VHS tape somewhere in my basement... -
That should be interpreted as 16th place in division 3.

Highest temperature ever.....

I didn't march that year, but in 1987 they actually cancelled a show in Atlanta because of the heat. For some reason they had scheduled it for a Sunday afternoon (instead of night). -
1980 Chattahoochee Sound Association. I'm 16 years old, sitting to the left of the drum major. 1983 Spirit of Atlanta. We posed for "formal" photos in the early Spring that year. 1983 Spirit of Atlanta bass line posing in Miami. Aren't we sexy in our short shorts? B) 1983 Spirit of Atlanta at DCI finals in Miami. I'm on bass drum #2. 1985 Spirit of Atlanta age-outs just before retreat. I'm third from the right on the front row. I was so young and thin :devin: edit: And here I am today with my wife! -Jack

What Do You Do When You Get Nervous
jacquesb replied to Snapettes Mom's topic in DCA - All-Age Corps Discussions
I just drop and do a couple dozen one-armed pushups. That simply demands respect! -
Only 34" for the bottom bass? Try 36"!

? for "experienced" DCI fans

I remember sitting down at a Burger King near Legion Field (actually near the highway) after prelims and hearing some random guy muttering to himself "#$%^&* rotating arcs. Everyone's doing rotating arcs". -

Blame Canada! B) -
Too far to walk in the heat of summer. Heck, too far to walk even on a nice day :-) If you take MARTA, however, it is quite accessible. Take the train east from the Dome to Five Points, then north to North Avenue. Probably take you 5 minutes that way. The V is a block west of the North Avenue station, at the corner of North Avenue and Spring St. Another option available during Falcons games is that they have a Varsity counter inside the Georgia Dome. I wonder if they could be convinced to be open for the DCI show? I'll have two chili dogs, some rings, and a jumbo FO!

Better than buying discs is buying individual tracks from iTunes (or whatever) for $.99. I found Stone Ground Seven, Dindi, and some other similar tunes there.

Alliance of Atlanta, Open House Announcement
jacquesb replied to JeffP's topic in DCA - All-Age Corps Discussions
Good luck to Alliance next year. How about adding a "media" area to that website so we can see and hear what you guys have done? -Jack -
