  1. Marc Sylvester said the last "Best of Bernstein" show they performed--1990--was a show that embarrassed him because it had nothing that the corps hadn't done before. We'll see how this works out...
  2. I was lucky enough to play Bernstein with The Cadets in the 2006 show--but I don't think many people were that excited about it.
  3. It comes as a surprise to have me saying it, but I hope Phantom Regiment wins brass.
  4. This is great news. I plan on stopping by their souvie booth in Massillon on Monday to sign the get-well book.
  5. A combination of 1991 and 1993 Star would be very odd and trippy .... could be cool!
  6. Cavaliers shows are just incredibly well-crafted, well-performed, and effective....nothings.
  7. Agreed--that first movement would be epic.
  8. I think Phantom should revisit their repertoire from 2001, except they should play more of of Bartok's Concerto for orchestra instead of Festive Overture. If they were able to field another hornline like this year's (though I am not a fan of when they occasionally overdo it and get harsh, the 2008 Regiment hornline is a force to be reckoned with, playing an incredibly meaty and exciting book), and they had good, aggressive arrangements, Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra would be (to quote a post from a while back) ####### FIERCE! If they paired it with an excellent visual program (more on the lines of SCV than recent PR) they would be nearly unstoppable.
  9. Ehhhh, not so big on the whole rehashing past glories idea. The Holy Name thing is cool for the anniversary but I hope it's a one-year thing.
  10. They will have to create an entire instructional and design staff from scratch--no small feat. It took several years to get to where they were in 2004 and that all needs to be rebuilt. They had some incredibly good people when they were Div. I (Jay Bocook, Jeff Sacktig, Gordon Henderson, Chad Pence, even Ralph Hardimon consulting) but most of the instructional staff they had is at Troopers, Cadets, or Boston now.
  11. The fact is, a lot of people were predicting Bluecoats to be top 3 or win, and they're not. I'm not saying they're bad, but maybe 05-06 was the exception, not the rule.
  12. George Hopkins stepped on my glasses in the gym when he came in to wake us up once on tour......true story. They shattered.
  13. Despite a lot of really positive pre-season talk, Bluecoats never seemed to get out of the starting gate with the other corps and have lagged behind the top of the pack all season. 2004-2006 they were on a roll, going from 6th to 5th to 4th, and some people picked them to win it all last year. At finals they placed 7th, but they were 4th a couple weeks before finals. This year, as of tonight, in the DCI.org rankings, they are 6 and 7th in many captions; 10th in guard. Their guard was 11th in Atlanta, behind Blue Stars, Glassmen, etc. Overall they are being followed very closely by SCV and could easily slip into 6th. There was a lot of discussion about their new visual caption head this year, but their visual scores seem to be lacking. What's going on with Bluecoats? Note, this is NOT A BASH ON THE CORPS! I really enjoy their program for the most part this year and am friends with one of their DMs.
  14. At Cadets the guys had to "tightie whities" (boxers or boxer briefs would have bunched up) and everyone had cream spandex-type things over that. The bottoms of the spandex were tucked into the top of the long white socks. Woe unto anyone who lost their spandex (we called them something but I've forgotten) like I did before the Murfreesboro show. Also, we wore plain white cotton t-shirts cut off at the belly button so they wouldn't bunch up at the bottom. Cap Reg just had white t-shirts and the bottoms were not as important since we had black pants; we were encouraged to wear skintight black spandex shorts to avoid bunching, and I did, but I think I was in the minority.
  15. Weber Grill  The best meal I have ever had was a Weber Grill fillet mignon (with bleu cheese, and shrimp on the side) on a Chicago free day. It was insanely expensive though...
  16. Ah poo. I hope I can do it on Xbox but I don't think I will...
  17. What a surprise, BSL. But I agree.
  18. Can you name all the players? Can you make a custom-named coach and/or staff? I'm totally doing this when I get back to school and can play my roommate's Xbox. The Cadets--from Garfield, NJ for tradition purposes. Get the nice maroon stripe down the leg...away uniforms look like the DM uniforms, with the '08 gold-trimmed unis as an alternate? Or maybe the other way around? If I could make a custom coach, you know who it'd be I wonder if I could have Giants Stadium as the home field--but it already has 2 NFL franchises...
  19. The crown to crown is cool, a nice shout-out to Star of Indiana.
  20. Hmm...how would you make a baritone sound like a saxophone? mirlitons?
  21. For example, of a corps had modified its 2-valve bugles (through slides, etc) to play notes that would be otherwise impossible to play on a 2-valve bugle (as was alleged in the early 80s to have occurred), would you think the corps should be penalized?
  22. There was a topic about the balloons somewhere... My point is that if they are going to have rules limiting instrumentation, they should enforce the rules they have and/or write more thorough rules based on a rigorous and widely agreed-upon system. On a larger level, you're right, it doesn't really matter--which is why perhaps they shouldn't have rules limiting things.
  23. I But that's a Chinese instrument...were kotos too expensive? Or would they be harder to justify (plucked vs. struck)? For the record, a pit full of kotos would be EPIC.
