  1. I'm thinking this would make more sense if the bugles cost more than Bb instruments.
  2. If the amp malfunctioned people wouldn't hear it if they were around!
  3. DCA has started enacting all the same BS that DCI has. When it gets to the point where DCI is now, then yes, the same logic will apply.
  4. I'm not going to sit through a bunch of drum corps doing their best imitation of Riverside Community College or Marion Catholic high school to see one alumni corps perform. I can stay at home and watch drum corps. This is an effort to line their own pockets. And I own it...but it's sad to know that I I could have 15 more years of drum corps in this collection...but they stuck the knife in with the switch to Bb and it keeps getting deeper with each change. Same response as the alumni situation. If I want to see the closest thing to drum corps that I can, I will go to a DCA show...at least there are a few left that have the right idea.
  5. If they are putting out a product that you don't like why wouldn't you want them to fail? If you like Coca-Cola...would you cry if Pepsi went out of business? If you like McDonalds...would you care if Burger King went belly up? This is the prerogative of the consumer. In the case of DCI, the fans are the consumers. DCI has made it plain and clear that the only demographic of fans that they care about are the younger ones...the ones they can get to march......the ones that will keep the activity alive down the road. However, by continuing this movement, they are more rapidly alienating the demographic in the best situation to help DCI now...that being the people who have marched....those that have jobs and lives and can, financially, provide immediate feedback to DCI. I, personally, liked drum corps (in G).....so why would I care when the BOA summer tour (DCI) fails?
  6. I aged out of drum corps in 1994 and joined the Army in 1995. I just seperated after 12 years of service. Basic Training was a challenge, but having marched corps, I felt completely prepared mentally. The biggest challenges were from a standpoint of endurance, which is to say a lot, coming almost right out of corps. I know two guys who marched Phantom Regiment who went on to march in the Marine D&B Corps that ended up in my last army band. Duane LeBlanc marched 90, 91 & 92 (I think that's right) and Russ Wiley marched with Southwind and Phantom (not sure of the years)....both were sop players.
  7. Two stories...one involving weather and one involving the world outside the stadium. 1993 Carolina Crown - Columbia, SC: We started this show off with chimes and sound plates chiming off in the pit for a few measures. Well, across the street from the high school stadium we were performing at was a railroad crossing, so right as our show starts, the crossing warnings start going off, too. The crowd was laughing loud enough for us to hear it on the field. I just happen to have this performance on video tape and it always makes me laugh, too. 1993 Star of Inidiana - DCS Tour, Florida: I don't remember which show this was, but Star was performing. This was before their cream colored uniforms came in, so they were still wearing the red uniforms from the preceding years. There was a storm pretty far off from the stadium, but the sky was a really pretty reddish/orange color with dark clouds on the horizon. At the end of their Medea show there was lightning in a few spots that just seemed to fit with the music perfectly and I was left wondering how they managed to get God on their visual staff. That's all I have....
  8. I think the Cadets should do a show based on why Jay Bocook had to leave Furman University back "in the day". That would be a very dramatic and stimulating show. They could let a newscaster be the narrator.
  9. I have the following horns for sale: Holton ST307S MF Horn Bb Trumpet $1215 This horn is three years old and in excellent condition. There is no finish (silver) loss, no dents, dings or scratches. The valves are extremely fast and all of the slides move freely. If you prefer large bore horns, this one (.468) is an excellent choice for you. The horn projects very well. Shipping, case and a Maynard Ferguson model mouthpiece are included (FBL MF-TD Trumpet Mouthpiece). Yamaha Bobby Shew 8310Z Bb Trumpet $1315 This horn is only two months old and has never been out of the house. I kept past the 7 day trial period and couldn't send it back. It plays much easier than I had thought it would based on the extremely small bore starting point (.445), but the step bore makes it feel much more open than it is. This is my favorite of the two horns for sale, but I am playing a hybrid of two different custom yamaha trumpets, so this one is on the block. Shipping, case and mouthpiece are included. Courtois 154R Bb Flugelhorn $1350 I bought this becuase it was the model that Maynard played and I was curious. This horn has a huge bell (6.7") and the gold brass bell helps give it a extremely lush, dark sound. Unfortunately for me that's not the flugel sound that I go for. I prefer a lighter, airy sound (some call it the French sound...which is funny that this French flugel doens't have it) from my flugelhorn, so I am selling this one. This horn is also two months old and has never been out of the house. Shipping, case and mouthpiece are included included. I'll send pictures to anybody that is interested. Many Thanks!
  10. Moderators, please remove this idiotic, insensitive piece of crap.
  11. Don't do it out of respect for me....it has nothing to do with me. If you claim to be a MF fan, then do it out of respect for him. Anyone who was a fan would want to buy the DVD from the MF organization. Anyone who wouldn't is someone who would burn illegal copies or get an illegal copy from a friend. I have read and posted reviews at maynardferguson.com and have read reviews on trumpetherald.com. Sadly, for your argument, wrong is still wrong. It doesn't matter how many people say they want it or wish it....it's wrong. I appreciate the fact that everyone who wishes they could have been there wasn't there. I know if they had wanted to be there badly enough that they would have, though. Don't tell me you don't think there weren't people who said "I'd like to go, but it would be inconvenient (or expensive), so I'll just wait for someone to post videos." If you think that didn't happen, then you are naive.
  12. Read your program from the concert. Is that official enough? It doesn't matter how you or the person who did the recording/photographing view it. It was stated in the program no photos or recording allowed. Obviously the event organizers knew that wouldn't be enough, so one of the first things the emcee said was that the event was being professionally recorded for a commercial release, so if you are making one of your own to please stop. It's a shame nobody respects MF or the MF organization enough to abide by their requests...oh, and the law. The decision wasn't just made last night that there was going to be a DVD. That was the whole point of all the microphones and cameras. When one of the first things the emcee says is "this is being recorded for a commercial release"....don't you think they might have a clue what's going on?
  13. Is anybody else planning on going to the Tribute concert in St. Louis? Just curious if anybody wanted to get together for a drink.
  14. Yep...because the audio that is on the CD is on my iPod and the DVDs look better than the Videos. Your signature is pretty appropriate...that sounded like a drummer comment. Sorry I didn't use smaller words to explain it for you.
  15. All the CDs and Videos have been sold.
  16. Nah...you sounded more like a jealous lower sop to me. :P Seriously, though...if you can do it well and with authority in the correct style, go for it. If you're doing it in the middle of Adagio for Strings, you deserve to have your knee-caps shattered. Those who can't do it right are just as bad as those who can't do it at all.
  17. I think the more important question is why would you go from a Kanstul Powerbore to an Olds Piston/Rotor?!?!?!?!?! I would suggest an Olds mouthpiece, because you have to figure it would fit. I don't know the size comparisons, but there are a few up on eBay.
  18. I have a Kanstul Powerbore I'll sell for $525, which would include case and shipping. Interested parties send me an email.
  19. Indeed, congrats....it was some performance. I wish there were an opportunity to see you guys moving and playing on a football field, but it appears our corps won't grace the same field this summer. :(
  20. As a teen Chuck Norris impregnated every nun in a convent tucked away in the hills of Tuscany. Nine months later the nuns gave birth to the 1972 Miami Dolphins, the only undefeated and untied team in professional football history.
  21. Congratulations, Brent! Can't wait to see what comes out of Austin!
  22. Visit here for the mouthpiece. This site is run by Patty Gordon, Claude's widow. It's $52.45 in silver. Hope this helps you out.

    Schilke B3

I have to...I just bought another Taylor....I plan on keeping this one. Somebody give my Schilke a good home!!
  25. For Sale: 1965 Schilke B3 in great condition. Valves and slides are as new and there are no dents or dings. Slight finish wear around valves at the contact points. <<<from "The Schilke Loyalist Website>>> Schilke B3 Large Bore Medium Bell The B3 was first sold in 1961. This horn is frequently favored by trumpet players who wish to have very free blowing horns. It has a large bore (0.463 inch). Adolph Herseth, though widely recognized for his work with Bach C trumpets in the Chicago Symphony, plays a Schilke B3 B flat and is pictured playing it with Arturo Sandoval (playing his Schilke) in Paris 1988 in the tribute article to Herseth found in the February 1998 issue of the ITG Journal (page 11). Forrest Buchtel, accomplished engineer and former lead player with Woody Herman, Malo and Blood, Sweat and Tears played a B3 model. He is the player for whom the Schilke 14A4a was originally made. <<<>>> This horn is in great condition and was made when Mr. Schilke himself was still making the horns. I'm selling it for considerably less then a new Schilke. Contact me for pictures and/or questions. $1200 includes shipping and a case.
