  1. I must be colorblind because I thought they were wearing blue. Holy crap.
  2. Talk with the staff by email at this div 1 corps and ask if they can send your information to other corps. Many other corps lines aren't set until Jan and even February.
  3. Crown's shoes were in fact completely white this year (I never really heard why, but assumed for visual purposes much like the centered plume). Other years they were painted creme.
  4. I did it last year. Funny thing was, I didn't even end up at either two corps I auditioned at! (Decided to fill a hole in late May ... best decision ever!) Yeah, just don't be dumb and make mention whree you'll auditon if you don't make it. I hate saying this, but it IS a good idea to have that back up corps if you don't make your first, not to say that a back up corps isn't always a bad corps/isn't worth a first choice.
  5. Not allowed to cross four lane high ways. No joke. Even if it was a back street and it had four lanes.
  6. Cadet's Sanvean was amazing, I loved it, even WITH the singing. Crown and BK had good arrangements this year, so did PR.
  7. I met Mr. Moto before finals retreat. Really cool guy. I also heard he was an age out? I also dug the retro uni he had on at finals.
  8. I loved the BK show this year. It's very dark, angry drum corps. I've never really been a BK fan, but they totally turned me around this season. I only got a chance to catch them sometime in Texas, but it was definetly a treat to watch.
  9. We do really respect the Star people at Crown. I always feel like I have something in common with you guys. Every time we have a Star vet or someone sit in the circle or watch a practice I just feel this vibe that we both understand each other and what the corps is about. I just had to add that this is one of the best threads I have read in a while. It's not because I was in Crown either, it's moreso because DCP for me has normally been such a bashing place, and this thread is all about the crowd reaction and not even so much about the score. It's not really about how we all wanted Crown to be higher, it's more on the lines of "this is what drum corps is all about". The ovation was the highlight of my summer. I had a rough summer, but I will leave the details, and that experience was just a fantasy to me until it came true. I can't wait until the finals DVD to see that again. If they even choose to put it on. I also have that picture I took of the crowd, but unfortunately it was a disposable camera and pretty bad quality. But it's still magical, and even though you can't see the crowd, just looking at it gives me chills because it puts me right back in the moment.
  10. How to TRULY push myself. I got a stress fracture in spring training and ended up marching on it for a good month of tour. I decided to make the best decision for my next marching years and help the corps on the sidelines rather than injure myself further. It sucked, but now I get my full 3 years to play with. I got to stand on the sidelines in full uniform at finals, and the corps still treated me with so much respect. I'll never forget it. It's because of all the family and friends I made there that I will be going back until I age out.
  11. Wow. I never thought I would come back and read a post like this. I took that picture (unless other members did so and I didn't see). It was kind of spontaneous. Hearing the crowd boo the placement/score and then getting that amazing applause (which I would say rivaled the one Cavies got for winning!) I could not stop smiling and laughing. I have never felt that way before, and I will never ever forget it. The entire corps felt it. It was weird, but I really felt a connection with almost every member of the audience. We have fans! Crown 2006 was a killer season, in more ways than one, for me. That picture, that night, that crow, will always hold a special place in my heart. Because in my mind, that is what drum corps is all about. You would never have guessed that Crown got 8th with how happy we were when we got off the field.
  12. popping in to say I'm a current marching member. I'm home for today for graduation, and then back to the good old butt-kicking tomorrow. But yeah, this poll would be much better suited to the off season
  13. All the flags in Spirit 2003's show commerorating people of drum corps history. A nice tribute but a bit cheesy.
  14. I play baritone, always have wanted to try euphonium (dunno why) But I would REALLY like to be in the pit, specifically marimba.
  15. One of the great things about corps is second chances. Take him to Cavaliers if he wants to be there. If he isn't cut out for it, there is PLENTY of time to look for a new home for him. Corps get holes throughout the winter camps, sometimes even up until move-ins. Take it from me, I had a spot with a corps in January and decided to forfeit it, so I left a hole for that corps. About a week before move-ins for another corps, a hole opened up. Holes are a common thing, and often times are very easy to come by and obtain. It is always good to have a back-up corps, and plan, but in all honesty, let him go for the corps he wishes. Even if he doesn't make it, imagine the stories he will tell his friends of being in their very precense! That's the magic of corps. Being homosexual should NOT be a problem. We had plenty last year in my corps, and no one ever thought any less of them or even as an outsider. They are welcomed with open arms and eyes and are never judged by their preference. I never saw a problem with it when I marched, and your son should not either.
  16. I'll be leaving tomorrow for spring training as well. :) Not with the corps in my username, but someone else. Goodbye!
  17. don't compare sections of the corps and complain about how the brass doesn't do this or the pit doesn't do that. NOT a good idea. And I third that sleeping on the way to shows thing. Though I do have some great photos!
  18. the steelers will NOT come in 26th. Jeez where have you been? :-D hahahaha that last predicition amused me though.
  19. Same with me. I played clarinet before hand, and was given a baritone to play in my own marching band because we had no low brass and we didn't have an available mellophone for me. Sooo ... I went to the December camp with only 4 months experience and got a contract. Sometimes they look at how far you've come as in playing wise, but it really depends where you go. I was going to do senior corps and they were willing to put me anywhere, so I guess it's different everywhere you go.
  20. Did anyone get THIS upset when Bluecoats gave their show announcement? Wasn't it just as kooky and weird? Gosh, maybe Crown's show is MEANT to be odd and out there, maybe that's what the whole deal with the concept was.
