  1. Thanks for the review. You saw the show pretty much the same way myself, and the people I was with saw it!
  2. They may! They were very exciting! I really wish I could see them again! I want to watch them right now!!! It's been a while..(well not really..Phantom last year when they came to Seattle did the same thing to me)...that I've wanted to watch a corps over and over again! Go SCV!!! We are routing for you up here in Seattle!
  3. Well, let me start by saying...it's such a tease to go to a Drum Corps show and only see 5 Corps. I just left wanting to see more! I guess I'll have to go to Madison after all this year. Spokane Thunder: I was running toward the stadium, as they were finishing their ballad. :( Ballet Sacra...what a tough piece! Nice low brass sound! The corps is very young, but getting stronger every year! Keep it up! Oregon Crusaders: Well...the hype is real! Now...I may be biased, because I have a good handful or two of students in this program! BUT...with that being said...they are a very solid Division 2 Corps. The hornline is very good for Div 2! Nice sound, and LOUD!!! Their show is soooo smart...great drill, well paced. It was so nice to see a show where the drill and music worked so well together. Solid colorguard, with great intergration. The drumline is improved as well. The bass drum line is...well...if you get to watch this show at all...name a better bass drum line in DCI this year. Seriously. I know it sounds silly to say that...but...it's true. Now, I know of the backgrounds of the players, but I don't need to get into that. The tenor drums are good too! The drum book seems a bit "heavy" at times, and over-plays the horns at times. Overall...great job! I just don't know if they have what it takes to take down Academy...then again, does anyone? Blue Knights: Nice opening set! Lots of intergration with the guard and corps. This is a solid corps! They are very good. They have really started "maxing out" their marching technique...and I do really like it! They were probably the loudest corps of the night. They may have been cleaner than SCV in terms of the visual ensemble...however, their show itself was kinda...eeh! It was dark, and sounded good...but I just kinda didn't get it. But, they are quite good! Probably in that 9-10 battle! Seattle Cascades: Now, as you can all tell by my "logo" I am a Cascade alumn. This is the only corps I've marched! Now, with that being said...I'm going to try to keep this as clean as I can. As I sat and watched the numbers come in from Stockton...I was freaking out, wondering why they were scoring so low. Unfortunetly, I now know why. I actually felt bad for the members at times. I mean, it's not horrible, and they are much better than a 61.95...but the show just isn't good. I don't understand the opening drum stuff...at all. I don't really like their music much...not much Effect there. The visual package is kind of...confusing, I suppose. It seems like they just kinda march around...I didn't really understand any of it. The pacing of the show isn't good either. I just simply feel bad is all. The snare drums are playing on plastic heads...which needs to go...NOW!!! I know these drummers, and they are NOT bad, but those platic heads are making them sound bad! I think that they should be able to move up from the 21st spot (at least I think that's where they are sitting at right now)...but unfortunatly (and this pains me to say this)...I don't see them making Semis this year. :( This is not at ALL the members faults. It's like Mathew (over at onthe50.com) said..."The Champion this year has already been decided...by the designers." The design of this show just isn't going to do it for them. :( Santa Clara Vanguard: Well...I must say that I am (regularly) a HUGE SCV fan. '98 and '99 are some of my favorite drum corps shows. I was very nervous for them going into this season, and I must say...WOW!!! Thank you Vanguard! This made the $50 my wife and I spent for our tickets on the 25 yard line worth it! I mean, they aren't top 3 or anything...but should be 6th! Their drill is SOOOOOOOOO much better this year than it has been in a LONG time! Guard intergration, drill that moves and makes sense, and is very interesting. I love all of the motion AFTER the productions were "done" they never really stopped! This drumline is VERY good this year!!! They made my night! The guard was very good too! The music is kinda...eeh...but the show as a whole is solid! Keep cleanin' Vanguard, and make the top 6 again. You've got another Vanguard fan BACK! Well...actually two fans, because my wife loved you too! Overall...it was a weird night. 3 corps performed, then a 20 minute break...then 2 more corps. Kinda seems silly! Oh well. Also, tickets up here in the Northwest are way over priced. I understand, groups need to make money, but geez...5 drum corps...3 of which are Div 1..and $25 to sit on the 25 yard line...kinda ridiculous. The wife and I were actually thinking of NOT going! But, we had to see our high school students perform! This show just made me want to go to finals that much more! My scores: Div 3: Spokane Thunder 62.5 Div 2: Oregon Crusaders 76.25 Div 1: Santa Clara Vanguard 80.5 Blue Knights 78 Seattle Cascades 65.5 I simply think Cascades are better than a 61 Nate
  4. This is B.S. that the streaming wont work on MAC tonight. I agree with Perc2100...they should've tested this before the show! I'm going out now, because I can't sit here all night and get frustrated. I hope this is fix by Atlanta...or I'll be demanding a refund!
  5. I still can't get it to work. I have a black screen on mine. :(
  6. Thanks for the review. I'll give my review of tonight's Seattle show sometime tomorrow! Watch out...it may not be the "nicest" review ever! Nate
  7. My older brother taught the Cadets mello line last year. I, on the other hand, have never been apart of the Cadets. Just the Cascades.
  8. I'm super excited about Academy. Of course, I wont get to see them... I still haven't gotten to see them. I hope they do well! Best of luck Academy! Nate
  9. BD may win this first one...but by Atlanta, Cadets will have caught everyone, and it will be game over, just like last year!!!
  10. I only have a few...here ya go Cadets: 9.5/10..Vocals in the ballad just need to be a little softer. Other than that...Love it! Bluecoats: 8/10..Entertaining. I really do like it. Need to listen to it more to get a higher score probably. Phantom: 7/10..I'm a huge Phantom Phan...but this show just doesn't quite do it for me...not yet anyway
  11. I just got done listening to the Cadets APD. I only purchased this APD because I have seen most shows via the Season Pass, YouTube, etc. I loved Cadets show last year, and was dying to hear their show, especially because of all the poor reviews it's been getting this season. First off, let me say a few things as far as how I view the activity. A lot of people probably aren't going to like this...so if you are a "Cadets Hater" (or even if you just hate this particular show)...you might as well not bother commenting. I'd like a real, solid discussion...not bashing...thanks. #1: I love old school Drum Corps just as much as the next guy. I loved the mid-late 90's when Corps could still pick great music, and do cool drill, and have it be very effective. Drum Corps is changing to more detailed (obvious) themes, with stories, etc. #2: I don't know that it's a "bad" thing, but it's nice to see variety in shows now. Designers are becoming more creative, and taking a page out of the WGI book. I've been thinking for years now that DCI needs to look at how successful WGI is, and to learn something from it. #3: With that being said, the AMP stuff, signing, props, and everything else that a lot of people hate are a part of this change. Is it a good change? We don't know yet. Will alot of people be angry with such a big change? Of course. Then again, people were angry when valves were added to horns,...when Corps started using B flat horns instead of G bugles. Were those good changes, absolutely. So, all I'm saying here is that I am open-minded to any and all changes in this activity. After all, this is "Marching Arts." This truely is an art form. ANYWAY...to my review: The opening segment is pretty darn cool for me. I know about their visual idea at the beginning, and I think this moment will work well for them. The vocals here are done well with the Pit. The vocals fit the show, and set up what the show will be about. The Opener is terrific. The music Jay B. wrote is fantastic! A lot of fast paced, upbeat, Drum Corps music. So, for anyone that doesn't like the rest of the show...ANYONE should be able to enjoy this production. The Drum Feature is just that...no horns, just Percussion. This Production feels like a Winter Drumline show to me. It's different, it's cool, and the best part...the beats are challenging and very cool. I think once this gets cleaned up (it is still pretty darn dirty) this production will make the Cadets a LOCK for Best Percussion once again! The Ballad was nice. I think the vocals need to be much softer in this tune, however. At least at this show...she was way too loud. Hopefully that will get fixed. The Closing section of the show was great again. Like the Opener, it has that "Drum Corps'' feel to it. The very end is last year, but so much cooler! I freakin' love the ending!!! All in all, I really dug the heck out of this show! YES, they are pushing the envelope with the vocals, and YES the Drum Feature is different. But, the show seems to have something for everyone. It is balanced with the "new" ideas and the "stock drum corps" ideas. I don't know if this show will win come Finals night, as I have yet to see the Blue Devils. However, I think this show CAN win, and could possibly be better than last years' show. I don't see Cavies beating them this year. I'd say it's a 2 run battle at the top with BD and CBC. Just a few thoughts for you all!
  12. Thanks for the review! I was hoping that S'cades show wasn't going to get that kind of reaction of "Redemption for what?" I was asking myself the same question when they first announced their show. I hope that the theme gets more clearly defined too. I haven't yet seen the show, but I will post a review next week after I see them on Saturday! Glad to see that you liked OC. I haven't seen them yet either...but I know 4/5 of the bass line, and can totally understand how/why they are featuring them! Nate
  13. I know DCI has done live stream testing at a few shows already... will they be doing it at the Indy show? Would love to see all those corps on my laptop at home!
  14. 1. Cadets 2. BD 3. Cavies 4. Bluecoats 5. Phantom 6. SCV 7. Boston 8. Madison 9. Crown 10. Spirit 11. Glassmen 12. Blue Knights Not too many comments really. Just being realistic....
  15. The Cadets will be a point or so ahead of Phantom. But, once again...it's early in the year...so they'll start pulling away within the next 2 weeks!!! I love that Phantom is doing well in drums this year. I've really like them since Rennick has been there. They are pretty darn clean already...however, I think once Cadets clean up, they'll pass them again. Only for the fact that they'll have a much more difficult book. Nate
  16. .25...I guessed .5....pretty close for me! It's only up hill for the Cadets though. Hopefully Bluecoats can catch Cavies though.... I honestly see it being a race with BD and Cadets for the #1 spot, and Cavies and Bluecoats for that #3!!! Nice work Blue!
  17. I really enjoy Bluecoats this year...which is kinda weird for me, as I'm not a huge Bluecoats fan...but I am this year! I can't really get into Cavies...not much of a melody...and quite boring to me musically. Visually...of course, great!
  18. So, Maedhros...what did ya think of the APD's???
  19. Are you at the show?? Or, do you know someone that is at the show? just wonderin
  20. hmmm,...hopefully the show doesn't get rained out again! I was bummed that we didn't get to see how Cadets stack up with Cavies. It will be nice to see how they stack up with another top 4 corps though...the Bluecoats!!! My guess...they'll be within .5 of eachother...either one on top! Nate
  21. Man, this sucks! These 2 corps wont see eachother until Indy now!!! It was our only chance to see how they "stack" up at this point. Oh well...
  22. I looked up weather online, and it looks like it should be okay weather there!
