  1. I agree with both previous quotes. Phantom has to go back to the 1975-1979 uniforms, the best in the history of drum corps (also known as 'Phantom Regiment Classic,' but give me skirts and boots on the guard). And Phantom 1991 had the best guard uniforms ever. Wow.
  2. Knights played YES in 1989. The hornline was good.
  3. Blue Devils 1982. The power chord near the end of 'Chuck Corea' is the only time in corps I've literally had to cover my ears.
  4. Yeah, but dude, back in the days before light and fire, like the 70s and 80s, I think is what we're getting at. SCV went match in the late 70s and then went traditional again in 1984. 27 played match for a long, long time (and spectacularly, I might add).
  5. Drum Corps World ran a long article back in the winter months of 1983, written by Jim O'Brien, about his decision to fold the corps after 82. I haven't read it lo, these many years, but I remember being saddened by it. I loved that drum line. Was there anybody, ever, who didn't love the Chrome Wall?
  6. I'm with dpdc77. 1985 was the most competitive year with the best shows. YMMV, which is why we have discussion forums. That BD pit feature from 2000 is awesome, though.
  7. Sorry to jump back in 12 hours late, but, dude, if you want someone to narrate what a corps does with its musicians on the field, go see a frigging clinic. That should put you over the moon. If you did that in a show it would pretty much suck. Perhaps you could re-read my post (and yours, since you don't spell well), then go and read some drum corps history, and maybe you'd have a tiny bit of understanding as to why the drum corps idiom, as I stated the first time, doesn't take well to the kind of narration inherent in Britten's original version of "A Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra." Either way, don't snivel, because we just had the floors waxed. Jackazz.
  8. Santa Clara's version from 73 and 74 was quite revolutionary in terms of staging the voices being displayed, then when the fugue built at the end with feet going at all tempos, it was awesome. Narration would only serve to dampen the idiom that drum corps creates. Staging and scoring should do the trick in corps.
  9. I would think most hard-core band kids would see drum corps as complimentary to their musical education, much as young singers who go to Interlochen or flute players who join Alyson Hannigan at band camp-stronger chops and much the better for it, as Steve Rondinaro said on the DCI broadcast back in 1982. (Talking over the Crossmen, I believe.)
  10. Dear DCP: I wanted to thank you SO MUCH for the interview with Keith Hall!!! When I saw the cover photo, I had to run into the "Hall" and get some ice!!! Speaking for myself, this is one Kid who won't have to wait in the "Hall!!!" DCP is definitely the "Hall" of the mountain Keith!!! Thanks again!!!! Sincerely,
  11. I might suggest y'all dangle your tootsies on the outside of the box and harp a litle less on second-and third-place corps with "underrated" hornlines. Sure, they might not have placed where you wanted them to, but come on...Cavaliers fiish half a point behind Garfield in 2000 and they're underrated? YMMV, as always, but this seems a little more like sour grapes and less like the purpose of the thread.
  12. You do , I hope, realize that if ANY memer of Jennifer Lopez's family is involved, the number goes up dramatically.
  13. Knights 85. Dutch Boy 1986 and 1987, Ventures 1988. O, Canada.
  14. Troopers spelled out HI MOM in their drum solo in 1982. A former colleague swears he saw someone spell out NICE T**S once as well.
  15. The composer, Holmes...and it's actually three pieces of music. 1)Jeremiah, 2)Make Our Garden Grow, and 3)The Overture to Candide. Hope that eases your confusion.
  16. Man...All my girlfriends in one picture! Holy schnikes, that is baaaad aaazz.
  17. 1985...The year of the concept show. Best competitive year ever. Plus it's not too far back in the day so it still looks like corps does now.
  18. And, apparently, the only way to deliver a joke is with a stupid smiley emoticon. Sheesh.
  19. Awful, hideous, horrible shower conditions. I could put up with everything else.
  20. Of course nutrition is important to kids, but seriously, kids can eat cardboard and it won't affect them adversely. Their bodies can handle it, especially if they're doing something as rigorous as corps every day. When I joined the Knights in 83 we had been donated what seemed to be a billion boxes of Halfsies cereal. Of course the corps appreciated the donation, but man, after a while it really WAS like eating cardboard. It seemed like we always had a hot breakfast when the food trailer could hook up the tanks, and we almost always had a snack after retreat, and they were always pushing us to drink fruit juice instead of soda (whic I resolutely ignored), so we didn't have it too bad at all. Cooking for a small corps is probably easier than a big corps.
  21. Of course ESPN will continue to show highlihts of the NHL on SportsCenter but I believe they'll be dropping NHL Tonight from their slate, since they don't cover the games anymore. Now, if they'd fit a DCITonight show into the Trifecta, that might be something. Have Stuart Scott scream "Boo-yah!!" When Phantom does a rifle toss. Actually, that would make me want to kill myself.
