  1. Sara, I agree with you in saying that "something" is just missing. ?? You could be outside of Giant stadium, you would tell who was on , and if they were tearing the place apart. Same with Clifton, Allentown, etc. Hey Jim how's things? LOL
  2. Legion convention was the week after labor day/DCA. It was great being in Sun as we weren't sponsored by any NJ post and could enjoy being on the "play something" side of the street. LOL We would meet at a designated spot/motel and party. All the corps were great, one their respective DM's saw us a rolloff would be called and we would give them a standing O as the played past. Sadly, the Legions national office ruled that the state convention could not be held after the National convention. That's why the dates changed.
  3. Did you miss this in Jeffs post? "The sheets for DCA, DCI, and DCI 2/3 judging systems are very similar and the real differences lie in the corps. If you can judge in one arena, you can judge the rest without much trouble. What a judge needs to do is to become oriented to the corps, their programs, and performance styles. Once you have an understanding of who you are judging and what they are trying to achieve, you can then apply the criteria. " By DCA having judges out in other regions during the season, they are trying as cost will allow to meet the above objective. If I was a member of one of these corps, I would worry about a prelims/finals judge getting a read of our show before DCA's. More than I would worry about a local judge going back east to judge the others. Back to the original post? IN 87 we (Sun) did an exhibition at a Cadets show and were judged by the panel. We were in the same number spread as most stated with the top corps, but we weren't on the bottom either.
  4. 10 Baris,,,nuff said http://www.gca-net.com/SunrisersAudio/audio-1980s.html click on 83...heheh
  5. I checked the appropriate gov't sites (I have access) , for excess/surplus under musical instruments. No bugles listed.
  6. I'd have to agree with Liz on that one. $$$ 25 stories is a bit much considering the surrounding buildings. One good thing of having drum corps down there in the off season is the pricing and availability of rooms. I've gone down on different occassions, bike weekend, car show/irish fest. rooms were abundant and reasonable alot had packages for the weekend. Here's something they should consider getting for the winter crowd. www.greatwolflodge.com
  7. I can understand Wildwoods reasoning, but I think they should limit the number of stories. How many floors/how tall are these supposed to be? I too have many memories of the shows and parades, seeing corps buses parked throughout the town, going back to a sponsors motel after the parade to perform and get fed. Along the parade route seeing all the people on the motel roofdecks cheering and partying. Then joining them when you were done. The majority of the motels I've been in do have the "kitchenette" style room available. ???
  8. Thanks Blue, I too searched their archives , nothing was coming up.
  9. Due to my commute I missed the CBS story, and didn't have access to a comp. this weekend. I went to DCI's website/link and it isn't there anymore. Did anyone save it? If so could you please email it to me?

  11. Mike, didn't Scully leave a message last nite??
  12. Attended in Hazelton, pa , about 50-60 in attendance. My take on the sound, ex. 96 Phantom , 4 contras start the opener sound ok?,,,,, but it never grew to where it should have been when the whole line opens up. Didn't ask mgmt. to turn it up, pit/keyboards most likely would have been unbearable. It was like they had a decibel limiter on. My take on the corps....I miss black boots!!
  13. Jerome, you scared me,,,I thought maybe Stan was at the Venice....
  14. A few thoughts: What was up with the parking? For corps members to use the bathroom (finals) they had to go through the field gate up through the stands, what happened to the side gate? I know of at least one corps that marched to the front gates on the way to warmup, tried to get in to use the bathrooms but had to settle on the porta potties instead.
  15. Mike, I heard of this in New Jersey also, same format as far as each band plays the same piece during their performance on which their judged. Patty Antol who marched mello in the Saints,Cadets, and Sun was performing with a group in NJ (can't recall the name) that also at the time had some recent age outs from the Cadets. I remember her showing me the alto horn she purchased for the band.
