I guess this one is going out to all you old timers. But down here in Florida, we never see naration in any high school show, and even then there is only 2 or 3 of them out there. And they don't make state finals. I really don't see, and it might just be me and the rest of Florida why we even need it. Can someone please tell me, where or where are these bands that do the whole talking thing coming from

Well, this is kinda how it works The shows are set almost like a package. If you notice there will be one or two top six corps, two to five middle of the pack corps, and then one to how ever amny "un" bottom feeders. You get to select when you come out, but when you do you get put into one of these groups. Its also based on the pay scale for shows, that way it costs about the same to get the same amount of corps, and why corps see each other so much through the year. Show sponsers are set up with one of these packages, one out west, one to two in the mid west and one out east, then you add in the div 2 corps who will also follow this group. Its set up by a combanation of DCI setting the packages, and the corps directors getting when they will be coming out, so they are giving the options of where their pack will be on such and such a day and then they have the chance to sign a contract with the shows in question. This usally gets mixxed up after the first regional when everyones together and then agin late in the season in the push to finals.

The outback bowl is home to USF football and that field is used by us in the Herd of Thunder, its some of the best stuff i've ever marched on the place is kept so well. But yeah we got like 220 marching pre game and half time on it and its never been torn up even with football and from USF and the Bucs

everyone who is sayign rab middle in allentown has marched crown, the worst day on tour was seeing that we had to stay there again for DCI allentown, they don't throw the water heater on in the summer. That was a BAD day

Living in Tampa, we have a great AFL (Arena Football League) Team, and well crising around the afl web site i found this video, and the relavent mission statement that has been at the core of the league since 1986 when it started. What if DCI had this mission statement at its heart, it think this would be the greatest thing for drum corps and fan. The statement puts FANS first and makes them and entertainment no 1 on the leagues list of things todo, not make money. THey also have a bill of rights if you look on the site, heres the link. In my personal opnion from a writing stand point i write every now and then for high schools and when i was writting for plate lines i just didn't see a real reason to have it, i had everything i needed in the pit. If it means more horns and guard then heck yeah no reason to bring them back. Today, if kids don't really know how to play anything you stick them in the pit and throw them on something that is easy to learn.

At my university there is a bad rap about drum corps, and the marching band which is one of the best college marching bands in the state. I was a music ed major, and one time I was asked about why i was looking at my old drum corps site on my labtop last year, and I answered, well cause its my life, and the responce i got back was well you better change your major.

as for crown... not the offical word, but being apart of YEA! was hurting the corps, like getting the best staff so on a so forth. And also we were growing and we needed the Yea! to help us get off the ground. But we figured out we were better on our own

It seams that there is one major change every ten years or so, or at least once a decade... 80's 2 Valves/Gounded Pit 90's 3 Valves 00's Bb/Amps Its kinda like DCI sets somthing up, lets it settle in as the norm, and then shakes things up again

I was in the exact same section but on the other side of the field, we though that we were going to get wet if and when our side broke. All the folks in our section started to move/get out stuff off the ground. From what I heard, (my friend who lives in Atlanta) THey had this leek a few days earlyer in the week, or month or something, and that they didn't exactly patch it up great.

That to this date is still one of my fav moments from tour in 03. It was just so un expected.
