  1. This weekend we got our "kids" back from DCI (couple of Blue Devils, an SCV, a Mandarin and a Bluecoat) and they helped us fill out our remaining horn spots, AND they all learned the complete show this past weekend as well. Our drum corps, as of Saturday, officially became full. We had a great weekend of learning and cleaning, througout the course of the weekend we managed 5 full run thrus each of which was better than the last. One more weekend of cleaning, with our Family Day performance, and then it's Rochester bound!
  2. Man, you just can't make anybody happy. Cadets dispensed with the spoken word hippie coffeehouse crap, and have gone back to doing REAL drum corps. Isn't that enough???
  3. In a way, yes! I don't think any corps would have the testicular fortitude to cut their tuba line anytime soon, but they have PROVEN they can do without it thanks to synths. Dangerous doors are being opened around us left and right. Who's to say what will happen next?
  4. With respect, I was NOT there on finals night but have heard that crap here and there for all the shows I DID get a chance to attend this season.....That, and this is not the only year it has happened. Just now, not a minute ago (I am as we speak watching 2010 BD on Fan Network) heard a passage in BD's show with a walking bass line and the tubas didn't even have their horns up! What's up with THAT????????
  5. We've all heard it by now............nearly every top 12 corps with tuba lines numbering 10 to 20 members has someone on a synth on the front sideline pushing a single key and overpowering them. Since these synth abilities exist, how long before a corps decides that the extra 10/20 spots are best given to the sop/pit/guard/bari/alto lines since a guy on the front sideline with an electronic toy can completely invalidate their on field contribution with the stroke of a finger? As a contra player, I HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE when corps double their bass line with a synth. Makes me wonder, why the F even have a conventional bass line to begin with at all?
  6. The Bluecoats baritone solo is one of the coolest things I have ever heard. AND HE NAILED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Seems to me that EVEN though a congratulatory thread for BD exists, it's post total at this point is surprisingly thin. I bet if Cavies or Bluecoats won this thread would be on page 20 by now.....
  8. I don't care what you think about a corps, or their program. It is NOT, under ANY circumstances, OK to boo the efforts of hard working kids who have busted their ##### off all summer and paid out of their own pockets to entertain YOU. EVER!!!!
  9. "I may not like the last minute of your show" "Members were more respectful this year than in the past. Hope it continues in the future. " Looks like there are some that can't help taking a stab at BD even while congratulating them!
  10. I guess I could agree with SCV '89 even though for all intents and purposes it was "SCV '88 = Take Two"
  11. This may have been resolved by now, but I am impatient to respond to some of the earlier posts in this thread. The point of this thread is to ask, assumedly, those who have seen both 2010 BD and 2010 Madison which of the two you would pay the most to see again, or to look at it another way, which of the two did you find most entertaining. It is about as simple a question as one could ask. No grey area in this one.
  12. I voted Madison. Not that BD doesnt' kick ###, but I already get MTV.
  13. What happened to Phantom????? THEY TOOK SIXTH PLACE LAST NIGHT, YET WON DRUMS!!!!! Pretty topsy turvy recap............as low as 12th in at least one subcaption, all the way up to first in overall percussion! I thought they were fantastic last night, certainly there is no low placing trend going on, they have in fact JUMPED three placements from last year. I'd call that a pretty healthy upwards swing!
  14. Biggest reaction at Eastridge Mall in San Jose: Madison, SCV (hometown crowd), Crown, and Bluecoats. Barely a peep for anyone else.
  15. In this particular instance, dealing with non DCI performances/exhibitions, i have to say this: Fxxx DCI.
  16. Personally for me, i think the opening of the 2001 SCV show is one of the coolest, if not THE coolest show openings I've ever seen. What do you guys think?
  17. I am bumping this thread back up to the top to encourage everyone once again to reach into yer pockets for just a LITTLE more pocket change (or pocket bills?) to help Dream out in their quest to Rochester. They are a great organization with a lot of good hardworking people who are fun to compete against and jam on the beach with:) Plus, it really means a lot to us (Renegades) to have competitive siblings ALSO from California along for the ride.......the post finals parking lot scream wouldn't be nearly as cool without Dream to share it with. This information is available earlier in the thread, however let me cut and paste.....you can send your donations to: Dream Association of CA 17870 Newhope St Suite 104-443 Fountain Valley, CA 92708 See you guys in Rochester!
  18. That this thread even EXISTS is a testament to just how good the Bluecoats are this year, and how far they have become. God knows that Indy would go NUCLEAR if Bloo pulled an upset Finals night!
  19. I believe we need more of this sort of reinforcement. And it's an attitude to which I certainly subscribe...........I was one of those seriously pulling the banner for Crown to take it all this year. Regardless......if the Blue Devis win, I will applaud them as a proud alumnus.....if someone else overtakes them, I will applaud THEM for achievving the supposedly "unachievable".
  20. Yes, it sucks. Already knowing who the winner is will definitely make DCI Finals anti-climactic. Sure, things can change between now and then, but I think there's only a 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000 chance of that happening.
  21. Loaded question. I would LOVE to hear BD play a fairly straightforward arrangment of "Legend of the One Eyed Sailor". I would NOT LOVE to hear BD play a rearranged, piecemeal highlight backwards chopped arrangement of "Legend of the One Eyed Sailor".......as was done with Channel One Suite by BD in 2002.
  22. What're you, a PayPal cheerleader? I'll stop there as I don't want to hijack this thread from the important goal of getting Dream to Rochester, but you are distracting from the issue with pompoming PayPal. I'm sure at this point given that there are still weeks left before Finals that ANY form of donation would be welcomed with open arms.
