  1. Has there ever been an international "champion" that was NOT the only international corps at the show? In other words, have any of the international "champions" ever beat out another international corps at the same contest to achieve that honor?
  2. Sorry Sam....... .........Don't mean to put too fine a point on it, but I heard that number was closer to 4,627? Don't feel so bad. In my two years of BD, I received two.
  3. The corps that scores highest, will win. The corps that scores fifth highest, will take fifth. The corps that scores lowest, will take last. (Sorry to steal Ream's thunder...........)
  4. Voted Cavies without a second's hesitation. They were, without a doubt, THE corps of the 00's. (just how are we to refer to the first decade of 2000? Do we actually call it "The Zeros"?)
  5. What a beautiful letter. Michael Boo, you are my friggin hero.
  6. You're just saying that the DCI judges are experienced, ethical and well trained because the DCI judges are experienced, ethical and well trained.
  7. I think you misunderstood him Sam....All these things are the inevitable result of a group effort like Blue Devils, or any other corps. I think all he meant is that BD didn't waste time better spent on the show "teaching" these things. Many corps DO take extra time to put more emphasis on these matters in terms of what's expected of them, but I believe these things are a naturally inevitable result of the ebb and flow of the experience of a Blue Devil season.
  8. I have an honest question for Soccerguy: Are you from the Concord area/do you REALLY care about what's best for the Concord community, or was your email to the city council just a petulant expression of your angst over G7?
  9. In his defense, I'd like to say that it is Mr Gibbs JOB to do anything and everything he can to preserve BD's "best interests", be it the survival of the bingo program or whatever. Keep in mind Blue Devils is NOT the only non profit organization that stands to lose out on this deal. Having said that, the notion that BD's "survival" is at stake is RIDICULOUS. We're not buying it. P.S. Fully aware of the irony given the G7 situation. I am going out of my way NOT to address my opinions of that here. P.P.S. Oh, and you all suck for making me defend Dave Gibbs.
  10. Perhaps they should FINISH their programs before learning the "running starts" which have become all the rage? And, of COURSE programs like BD and SCV are much harder and more complex than those put on by old farts like us Renegades, but when WE performed at Stanford OUR SHOW WAS COMPLETELY FINISHED. JUST SAYIN'................
  11. Why does something have to "have happened"?? Doesn't he have a real job outside of drum corps? Perhaps he moved to California for a better job offer and the gig with SCV was just a fortunate happenstance? (Bueller?)
  12. Fiedler, for all intents and purposes, JUST GOT HERE! Give him a chance? After all, who didn't LOVE, ABSOLUTELY LOVE last year's show? This year's show is maybe a bit of a departure emotionally, but when they get that show clean it's going to take out a few corps, that's for sure. Not that I don't understand some of the frustration out there where SCV's competitive success is concerned, I for one am getting a bit tired of them "living" between 5th and 7th place. However, all I can really do is give them my love and support, and best wishes for the 2010 season.
  13. Why do you love asterisks so much????
  14. (sighWHY DOES EVERYONE ON DCP THINK OF EVERYTHING IN ABSOLUTESsigh) I READ AN ARTICLE ONLINE where during a certain period of unrest the National Guard WAS RELIED UPON FOR SECURITY FOR FOOD DELIVERIES FOR CERTAIN STORES. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe my statement QUOTEUNQUOTE was: "....and sometimes food deliveries to mom and pop stores are done so under the protection of the National Guard?...." Key word being "sometimes" ????? I knew some two dimensional thinking absolutist would come on and say "not every (fill in the blank)" where my guard/store comment was concerned. Why is it that people are SO willing to forget the inclusion of the word "sometimes" when they bungle forth to defend, of all things, a #### hole like Detroit????
  15. Not surprised..........I don't know how common knowledge this is, but did you know that there are NO major grocery store chains in Detroit, and sometimes food deliveries to mom and pop stores are done so under the protection of the National Guard?
  16. I don't know how "relevant" DCP is as defined by the original poster, but DCP has a membership roster that exceeds the number of attendees of several DCI Finals competitions. Not everyone who reads DCP ever says anything, I know of several people who read DCP regularly and have never posted a peep. Also, although there is no tally of this next group of people I am about to refer to, there is most certainly a group of people who read DCP regularly who have never even JOINED DCP as anyone can read the posts and do not necessarily need to join to read. In short: DCP is way more relevant than Group A thinks it is, and way less relevant than Group B thinks it is. Are you in Group A or B?
  17. I don't think there is any glass in the BD mirrors............they appear to be reflective metal (?) surfaces mounted on styrofoam. Anyone got a ruling on this?
  18. My solution to the G7 is, quite simply, to fart on them.
  19. Well, I'd like to think that's because at this juncture in their lives they haven't been away from drum corps long enough yet to miss it.........never say never that's all I'm sayin...
  20. I couldn't agree more. I think the whole G7 idea SUCKS, putting up ONE MORE WALL between "the elite", and the unwashed "everybody else"............I can't WAIT to see ANYONE outside the G7 kick the crap out of anyone INSIDE the G7 this season.
  21. I wholeheartedly agree. Rochester PD have consistently gone out of their way to be helpful and friendly, and extremely professional. It's amazing how much influence the professionalism of the local police really can make or break whether or not an event is enjoyable.
  22. Although I wasn't enthused about the content beforehand but went anyway to hang with friends, I'd have to say the Countdown was enjoyable. It could have been marketed better, the clips of old corps that were played were MORE than 30 second clips, they were, like, HALF DURATION of entire shows directly linkable repertoirewise to the corps that just played, or the corps just ABOUT to play. All in all, enjoyable event. Was NOT "just the previous year's top 5".
  23. To simply replay last year's top 5 is lazy and most of the fans who are rabid enough to attend, already own the shows. This lazy approach to the Countdown needs to be re evaluated or it will be the death of the Countdown. LOVED the Classic Countdown where you could watch shows from ALL the eras on the big screen, simply replaying the last years top 5 is.......dumb.
  24. Actually, I AM going to the Countdown to meet friends and go out to dinner. However, the CONTENT of the Countdown has nothing to do with why I'm going. I got the Fan Network and friends have the DVD, it's just last year's top 5. What was so wrong with the old format???
