  1. Another weird etiquette breach I ran into some years ago, although I don't think this happens too much...A few (male) corps members that had performed earlier came and sat in the stands next to us, and while otherwise polite, apparently decided they didn't need shirts on like the rest of the audience. I didn't say anything, but...come on, you're not on the practice field. Drum corps is an exciting bombardment of the senses, but we saw and heard your corps already, we don't need to smell them too.
  2. If they're doing it this year, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't start updating it until after their first show. (I'm a big homer for their score site...You can track by captions, adjust the graph scale, compare two corps head to head, etc. Cool stuff!)
  3. With the background, it looks like an official House Lannister family portrait. Now THAT would be an interesting show...
  4. "...performing their 2015 show, 'IMPATIENCE: Words 2 Photoshop By,' Drum Corps International is proud to present..."
  5. I'm digging the drum major outfit a lot! Slightly fancier, but still 100% one of the corps. I don't think that'd be a horrible look for the whole corps next year, either.
  6. "Androgyny Agenda"...I'm going to try really hard to use that phrase as much as possible during the next (in person) heated drum corps argument I get into.

  8. I think it's partially a sign of the times, seeing as how hard some (myself included) have come down on a few of the newer, shall we say, less orthodox uniform ideas for this year. I'm just glad they're back to long sleeves!
  9. Am I the only one who thinks they look like the Colts from the future???
  10. ...or the hospital declared them high risk for falling.
  11. Dress in Blue, medals for you! Dress in Red, good as dead!
  12. More like, "DEAR GOD, WHY????" For all but the first picture (DM I'm assuming?) you've got such a bizarre tension between wanting to throw in a lot of sky blue, but trying to avoid looking "too blue," (because lord knows there's always a lot of blue corps out there) by alternating blue with a very limited partial spectrum of stripes of other colors. Not to mention the "reflection" streaks.I wouldn't call it the worst uniform I've ever seen, but I would call it one of the stranger ones. There might be a glut of blue uniforms as always, but I think their first example looks pretty darn good, especially in comparison with the other three. For all the excess blueness, I'd still rather see the whole corps in that one. (Oh, and while I very much want their Maltese Cross there, having it hover over the cloudy sky looks like some sort of surrealist Rene Magritte image) .
  13. 1. THAT is the new official DCI judge's uniform, designed specifically for high visibility to help reduce the number of judge/marcher collisions. The sword is just in case. or... 2. There have been debates about how corps would be scored & ranked if they all wore the same uniform so that judges couldn't identify them. THIS is now the uniform for all corps so that we can finally make that experiment come to life.
  14. I don't know, I know the red's their color (and lord knows we don't have TOO many World Class corps wearing red at all on any given year, so it would be missed!) but I think they'd look pretty bada** with the whole corps in the predominantly black one, at least close up.
  15. I'm with you on that...The old ones I loved were the 2007-12 variations. From what I remember, the buzz was HUGE when they brought those out, much of it positive.
  16. You can pay for tour...or you can read about it. Choices, choices...
  17. Sooooo much depends on your audience...I showed all (yes, all) of Cavies 2002 to a high school class once. (This was back in spring of 2007, so it wasn't THAT ancient ;) They loved it. But mind you, this was: - A math class - Studying geometric translations - At an art magnet school I'm not sure there's any other particular group I'd show the whole of that to as a very first look at Drum Corps, but for them, it worked.
  18. I agree with BRASSO, I wouldn't call $3.00 an accurate assessment of damages for no longer having access to SCV 1988-89... $75,000,000,000,000 sounds likes it's getting near the ballpark.
  19. Good thoughts. I think too many times corps get caught in the trap of thinking that to meet any or all of these criteria they have to out-crazy each other and end up giving us a program that smells of trying too hard without succeeding. I'm not going to name names, but we can all think of some...Whether its some sort of uncomfortably surrealist narration that doesn't pull us in a clear direction, or a strangely ineffectual 8th grade history lesson, or an everything up-to-and-including the kitchen sink approach when in fact you're trying to put together a show about refrigerators, not sinks, the shows that stick with me don't do these things. They keep it simple. Simple doesn't mean easy, it doesn't mean simplistic...It can still include plenty of "Wow!" moments, it can still make me engage my brain. The million dollar question of course, with an answer that's redetermined each year, is can a corps do this and still give the judges what they're looking for, which, as is mentioned elsewhere in the thread, is often far from what many in the audience are looking for.
  20. Isn't there (or didn't there used to be) some sort of rule that if you still have outstanding debts with one corps, you can't go march in another? Did I imagine that? (It's possible...)
  21. Wow, such cynicism for a hypothetical scenario... Members would be able to say "I'm in this corps because I'm good enough" as opposed to "I'm in this corps because I'm good enough and was able to come up with the money." I'm not saying there's anything at all shameful about the latter...That of course is the world we live in. But for the purposes of this imaginary scenario...I'd say it would be a positive thing for the corps. Those wanting to audition wouldn't have to hesitate, and as far as corps pride, you'd still get plenty of people still auditioning to become a Blue Devil, a Cavalier, a Madison Scout, etc. Just because a corps is able to provide free tuition doesn't diminish the prestige of that corps or any others.
  22. Not to mention the shows about hunting the most dangerous game of all...MAN.
  23. The real secret is that the uniform being tried on by the gentlemen on the left and on the rack is completely made up. The lady on the right is wearing the real one. Very sneaky, Phantom Regiment...very sneaky indeed!
  24. It looks like I could just keep on pulling it, and more and more ribbon (or if you prefer, intestine) would just keep coming out...maybe that's intentional for some sort of cheesy magic trick.
