  1. Oh, then I suppose you'll just stop reading this thread you find tired and boring. See 'ya on another thread.
  2. There is no point. George is just one long stream of consciousness. He is in Serious need of an editor. His written communication skills are an embarrassment.
  3. Amen to that, brother. And with that in mind, I have a proposal for this new fresh approach. DCI board, appoint a Commissioner. Give him absolute power. Just like professional baseball, hockey, basketball, etc. do. And I have just the person in mind, someone who is not a member of any junior corps or on the BOD or in the "7". Yes, a new, fresh, independent benevolent despot. I give you... Mr. Scott Stewart. And while we're on a roll, it's time for a fresh new direction. I suggest the following few decisive steps: 1. To the "7", buh-bye. Off you go, we wish you the best. 2. To the new DCI, we're going to rebrand and distinguish ourselves. Our mission will be excellence and crowd appeal. Therefore... 3. The use of Amps and electronics is hereby revoked. 4. The score sheets are to be re-worked to place the emphasis back on brass performance and less on visual. 5. The tour will have a Regional focus with the exception of the first 2 weeks in August. Regional circuits such as DCE and DCM will be reestablished. This will be done to cut costs. 6. We will work to find a permanent outdoor venue to host our championships. Then "let the games begin" and may the best circuit prevail!
  4. Seriously? The idea here is for the "7" to gain control of the board, by establishing a 12 member board. They'll then have the majority. 7 votes versus 5 votes. This is just their latest attempt of packaging the thing.
  5. Fine. Can you paraphrase? I think we all can sum it up: 1. Inelegant take over attempt of the DCI BOD by the G7 in 2010, which ended in all the G7 children taking their balls and bats and going home, resigning from the board. 2. Simmer 3 years. DCI board members, let's call them the "adults" in this scenario, actually take the extraordinary action of allowing the G7 children 6 of their very own private contests in 2013. 3. Another take over attempt today by the children, who now identify themselves as the "7", laughingly disguised as a noble gesture to have a "do over" and return to the concept of the top 12 being the BOD members. Does that about cover it?
  6. Maybe. But it wasn't addressed to just the other dci directors. Go back and take another look. It was addressed to the membership of drum corps international. Whatever that means....
  7. Does someone pay George by the word? He's quite the bloviator. He could shorten this up quite a bit: "We want back in, and we want control of the Board. ummmkay?"
  8. To: George and the directors of the "7" From: The Membership of Drum Corps International Re: Your previous failed coup attempt and math Salutations, We find it interesting that you are communicating to us by that most impersonal and ineffective means of relationship building, email. But we digress. Since your failed attempt to overthrow the DCI board of directors in 2010, culminating in your removal from the board, we have attempted to work with you to retain you within the DCI family. The fracture of such a small organzation can only produce negative results, and as such it's our desire to remain together. To that end we have allowed you, within the DCI framework, to organize, run, and retain the profits from 6 events this coming summer. We wish you well. Your proposal to return to the DCI board of directors and revise the board membership to the directors of the top 12 corps was reviewed. However, a simple math calculation shows that with 12 voting members, 7 of which likely coming from the "7", means the "7" will gain control of the board of directors. Since you proved yourselves untrustworthy in 2010 and have done nothing to change that perception, we're going to have to say "no thanks" to your very thinly veiled "offer." With best wishes for the new year, THE Membership of Drum Corps International :cool:/>
  9. Well, now that you've had time to refine your thoughts on this, what you're Really saying is - you would not like the Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band. I would not disagree with that. :lookaround:/>/>
  10. Yesterday. Rose Bowl. Guy in a Kilties jacket. BTW, Bucky's football team lost, but their band kicked azz. And the Rose Parade - if you've never seen it live, and ever get the chance to....do it. It was AWESOME
  11. It looks like you've answered your question. Life's full of choices (as you know). Some of them kinda suck. But you buck up and move on.
  12. Yeah. That Phantom retread of Spartacus in 2008 was a real dud. SCV's Scheherazade was a yawner repeat of Spirit's version. Madison's Jesus Christ Superstar, well, you could hardly sit throught it, the retread that it was. Yes, repeats seldom work. Much better to play some unlistenable Philip Glass crap.
  13. I like how you are "minusing" each other. Now what? Sal does whatever his next thing is, in or outside of drum corps, and G-Men move on. I would like to think the organization is bigger than one person. I would like to think any organization is bigger than one person. If not, then that organzation has a lot bigger problems.
  14. They've already been slotted in the 9-12 range for 2013, so whether they have a March camp is rather immaterial.
  15. And, lower the maximum age to 18, and I think we're there.
  16. Good one. Hey Garfield AKA Brutus the Buckeye - did you notice - Hockeykids are going to their third Rose Bowl in a row! Three of them this time. This one's the best, because it was completely unexpected. And Barry's coming back to coach one game only. If it can't be Michigan, it might as well be Bucky Badger!
  17. As they were inactive in 1994, I'm guessing you are correct. No one applauded them. But I don't think anyone booed them either.
  18. I love the denial I'm reading on here: Nothing To See Here...Move Along. If all you can cite is one or two moments in a season, yeah, crowd reactions aren't like they used to be. That doesn't mean there are zero crowd reactions today, but I agree they're fewer and farther between. And there are a lot of reasons, most of which have already been mentioned: show design (no pause for impact points); high brow music selections vs. generally accessible music selections.
  19. No, I think it's a cultural phenomenon. You declare you've been wronged, then you have the moral upper hand. I think it's reinforced in the schools nowadays. You throw out the "I'm offended" card, and you automatically win the argument. People will feel sorry for you when you say you got your feelings hurt. It's all the rage at college campuses. People turn each other in for these offenses. Not unlike what happened under Stalin, but I doubt they teach that anymore.
