  1. Tons of interesting thoughts here, and a lot to digest. Thanks for sharing! I wonder who they might be thinking of bringing on, if they do get rid of Hill.
  2. Don't worry. If it hadn't been you, it would have been someone else.
  3. She's already guard captain of BDC! A valued member of the BD family.
  4. Man, I really wish you would go audition. Your attitude rocks.
  5. When was the last time a DCI champion scored under a 98? I'm wondering if we could see that happen tonight. On a different topic, I wonder how SCVC feels about performing tonight? They probably had a bigger, more appreciative crowd last night, since they were part of the actual competition. I'm sure they are enjoying the chance to play again in that this show is one "for the corps," but it must be a bit of a mixed bag.
  6. Okay, I'm not a guard guy, so I'm asking in all seriousness here. What the heck is up with the guard scores?
  7. Some people are so hungry to complain about judging conspiracies and how "they got screwed"that they can't even wait until the numbers roll in. Heck, apparently they can't even wait until the shows are performed.
  8. Looks like Cadets' score is not so hot, based on Hop's Facebook post a few minutes ago.
  9. Crap called film today? Okay then. Can we keep our dinoing to the topic at hand?
  10. I believe I heard it described as a tire fire. The only other thing I've heard described that way recently was the Phailing Phantom thread, so I think I'll be staying away from that movie.
  11. Legends is sounding great! What an excellent Friday premiere. Go plates! Also, since I'm watching on the tunnel cam and can see them right now, I just want to repeat one more time this year how great Cascades' new uniforms are. I love that colored pencil effect.
  12. Nah man, you're definitely not who I was addressing there, no worries.
  13. People talk about positive design elements of the show on here and get ignored. Someone who is not a designer and doesn't seem to have a connection to the design team mentions something about inspiration for guard design, and suddenly we have four pages about how wrong and awful the designers are. Yeah, that pretty much sums up this year.
  14. Their contras were plenty powerful and heard clearly for the entire show, with and without electronics.
  15. Huh, I didn't even hear the Taxi one. There was a quick, somewhat quiet "oo la la", I think. Silly, but easy to ignore.
  16. I've been reading this comment on here quite a bit, so I took special care last night to pay attention to what was going on with the props (books/ benches and ladders). Honestly, they were creatively used throughout the show. Some of the best use of props I saw last night. Why is there no complaining about SCV's Tesla coils that just sit on the perimeter for much of the show? I have no problem with them personally, and I think they're used effectively. However, they are not nearly as well-integrated as BD's props. As Alton Brown would say, they are mono-taskers, whereas BD's props are multi-taskers. Also, about the penalty thing, what would they be assessed a penalty for? Do they leave a mess on the field after their show for another corps to deal with? I didn't see that. I'm assuming you mean that. Otherwise, your comment is quite silly.
  17. Boy, that other thread has gotten quiet. Saw the corps at the Buffalo show last night, and this is a really solid show that screams "Phantom Regiment" start to finish. They've cut down on the narration to the point where it's very short and only appears a couple of times (read: easy to ignore), and the hornline is just excellent. I was very impressed by the maturity of the players. The difference in playing style to switch from the warm, lush, mid-heavy sound that they achieve in the Debussy (which they are starting to allow to breathe more, and which is really coming alive), and the more top-heavy, jazzy sound of the Gershwin is really impressive. Tuba feature is nicely cleaned up at this point, and the crowd ate it up. One of the things I'm convinced doesn't come through in the recordings I've seen online is the musical sensitivity of Rob's writing for the front. Just gorgeous stuff all the way through. Those opening strains positively sparkle live, and the Debussy is incredibly well done. The crowd loved this show, and the difference in crowd connection and reaction between this and Cavies was night and day. While I wasn't high up enough to effectively judge visual nuance, I'm really not sure why Cavies are so close to Regiment in GE2 (supposedly music focus?) or music ensemble, for that matter. I guess we'll see how things play out in the next six days.
  18. Just focused on enjoying the shows we paid to see, rather than playing cameraman for DCP and eating up my data. =) (Not that I don't appreciate those who do decide to periscope shows. It just wasn't my top priority last night.) As for scores, I agree with placements, and don't have much of a comment on spreads. With me being a brass player, and Crown's and Cadet's weaknesses being percussion and guard, respectively, I can really just say that I enjoyed the hell out of all of the shows. Crown's "abandon all hope" percussion feature at the start of the show is a bit out of place, but they've done a good job of cleaning it to my ears. Not spotless, and not exactly thrilling, but cleaner. Was really heartbroken for BLOO. Glad I got a chance to see their run-through at rehearsal, and even more glad that the drum corps newbies I brought with me did. Overall, just a fantastic night of drum corps.
  19. Correct! Kickout was added to the chevron last night.
  20. Weather continues to look better. Seems like rain will hold off until after midnight.
  21. Popped a really nice number tonight. Tomorrow in Buffalo is definitely going to be a great time. =)
  22. Sounds like they're hitting their late season push, from what I'm hear from friends in Allentown. It will be interesting to see how things go down in Buffalo tomorrow. On late, and right after Cavies. Granted, I'm not a fan of the way the gap was closed between the two corps. Hate to see a group get that sick. However, it's a real toss up right now.
  23. I'll be there as well, performing with Primetime Brass before, then enjoying from seats in the middle of section 133! Planning to hit up Regiment's rehearsal in the morning, then BLOO in the afternoon. Bringing a couple newbies with me, and I want them to get the full experience!
  24. Unless you ask anyone who has sat behind a French horn section playing FF in a band or orchestra setting. They'll tell you it's directional, alright. You just don't want it pointed in your direction.
  25. Glad to see they kept the eagles on the shakos. Some folks might have freaked out if they did anything drastic like changing those.
