  1. 5 days!! Houston's ONLY all-age drum an bugle corps is having our Open House for the 2007 season THIS SATURDAY. Please check GULF COAST SOUND WEBPAGE for details and directions. See you there!! b**bs
  2. Yeah, its a great piece. Who would of thought it translates well for DC? It was really fun playing it in 2005, probably my fav. chart from that year. Renegades will do it great justice, can't wait to hear what they do with it!
  3. Way to go Fred! Great proactive decision-making being done here. Its an honor to be a performer in this activity.
  4. Thanks for the info Matthew! Never heard about the Alliance medical issues until now. It is unfortunate the effect the weather had on all our performances. I would bet there are a lot more "war stories" from other corps on that day, still yet to be heard. It's really a blessing we came out of everything as well as we did (but actually everything is a blessing to GCS starting with the safe crossing of the 34 hour trip from Texas to the health of one the bari trioists, who had the flu and still performed (not ernesto related)). Despite it all, still think that DCA did a great job with the situation. There is always room for constructive criticism and improvement, however. Incidentally, enjoyed Chops performance! Also had a great conversation with someone in your souvie booth! Can't wait to see you guys in 2007!!! Rock and Roll!!!
  5. Josh, just noticed where you are marching in your sig. You guys ROCK!!! I became a Cabs fan in Rochester over Labor Day weekend. I can't wait to see what you guys do in 2007!
  6. While its true we got stuff going on, on the other hand we aren't playing together yet. :( Have to wait until Open House for that. http://www.gulfcoastsound.org/news_20060906.html If you are kicking around Houston and need a place to perform, why not stop on by November 4th? We may have a spot for you if you have the desire/passion and want to get in on the ground floor of a great organization. check us out: GULF COAST SOUND WEB SITE myspace: (yes we are getting trendy): MY SPACE GULF COAST SOUND b**bs
  7. Wow! Thanks for the background on Suncoast Josh. I was just a high school kid in the stands that year and did get to see them live, but didn't know the back story. I doubt that Frontier's production will remind many in the stands of that show, however.
  8. We also offer an aggressive fundraising program that will pay off the entire balance of dues. Many took advantage of it last year and paid zero corps fees.
  9. Other- Cavaliers superior production and design/execution. Like it or hate it, they did it really well, and no one came close from a design standpoint. Well done Cavies (members and staff)!
  10. When its 102 in the shade and 95% humidity in Houston, so say early May, you need a special something to get you through the day. Most of us have found a local buffet that serves various Mexican cuisine with Jalapenos in all its caseroles and vegetables. Sounds strange but its true, somehow the spicy food makes the outdoor conditions less of a factor. Of course, its also just darn tasty. ^0^
  11. Hugo. Ugh. It hit my (parents) neighborhood with 100+ mph winds. Pretty scary. At least we weren't 100 miles closer to the coast (ie Charleston) which lost 1 out of 3 houses on the battery. What a mess, pine trees everywhere. Yeah you guys lucked out up in PA.
  12. Wow Chris! Great Concept. Rock On Frontier! b**bs
  13. Man, I tell you what- playing in the "little room" as opposed to the "big room" across the street was much more fun. This is just a personal preference. DCA, please don't change this arrangement up in 2007. It was awesome playing to our buddies and comrades in mixed E in those smaller confines. Somehow I don't think Top Gun would have been as much fun as in the big room, but who knows? B)
  14. Just wanted to refute this. Texas High School Stadium Of course this is the biggest High School stadium in Texas, and everything is bigger in Texas. Total Capacity according to this report = 11,000 (Incidentally, there was a DCI show here in late July).
  15. Go Dream Go! Congrats again on your high brass Class A, really enjoyed that hornline! Also enjoyed our parking lot jam on Sunday morning of finals. Best of luck in 2007! Looking forward to seeing you guys again!!
  16. Props to you for picking the "reverend" Ronnie for your "new" and improved GCS uniform picture. Truly an inspiration to us all. Ronnie is an athlete, performer, philosopher, amazing family man and just a great talent. He can also totally "throw down". You and the world can see him live and in action on Saturday in Rochester. Looking forward to seeing Chops and everyone else soon... what a party!
  17. Gulf Coast Sound is on G. We picked up the inventory of Bayou City Blues, who didn't actually change keys. Key of G rocks, don't have any desire to ever march without a G horn. B)
  18. Cleveland is the perfect location for a senior corps. The midwest is ripe with talent, energy and creativity. A LOT of junior alums out there in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Michigan all within reasonable range. This is a slam dunk. When the word gets out, you may have to declare open class immediately. Here is hoping to see this project grow and evolve into a great midwestern powerhouse!
  19. My great grandfather was quite a bari player, according to family legend. It's a bit of a stretch, but he was in a marching unit of some kind in the late 1880s-1900. Can't say for sure he was in a drum corps, trying to verify that. I wish I could have met him, my grandpa always said I reminded him of his dad. My unborn child (and his/her mother) is marching this season in GCS. Hopefully we are starting a new legacy. (Will keep DCP notified of our progress).
  20. Our new unis rock! We really enjoy them, they not only look sharp but are much cooler which is nice considering our typical "warm" Houston weather. GCS just had a great weekend with a friends and family night performance and rehearsals. We are really looking forward to our performance next weekend at Frontier's BRASS HYSTERIA in Bedford, TX on Sunday August 27th. **Thanks for the compliments on our photographer. Ben is with us every step of the way, either taking photos or helping clean drill. He is one of our most important "non-marching" assets. He and the other members of our GCS Support staff are one of the big reasons behind our successes this season.
  21. Congrats Granny! Noticed in your profile your favorite DCI year. Great choice!!! Hope you enjoy your stay here.
  22. Agree with first two sentences. From my vantage point that night in Madison, no one around us thought that the Cadets were "over the top" with that show. Also would argue that it doesn't even compare to today's Cadets far out show concepts, but I am also turning into an "old phart" as my current corps-mates would argue vehemently. Agree completely that 97 was Madison Scouts all the way. What a great year for drum corps overall. Awesome, awesome phantom, cadets, and BD.
  23. I bet the layer of silver sulfide that constitutes the tarnish is extremely small. Maybe even in angstroms. The layer that is your silver on a typical horn would be much much larger, possibly even 1000 - 10000x. It would take a lot of these treatments to get down to the brass, unless you have worn areas on your horn as most of us have. Thanks for the succinct explanation about the product "silver lightning", its always intrigued me. Actually I figured it was a weak organic acid like phenol or benzoic acid or something doing the cleaning. I was getting excited and thought we might need to utilize the Henderson Hasselbach equation there for a second. Of course I would expect nothing less from my section leader.
  24. Hey Ashley! It was great seeing you guys at Brass on the Bayou, very unfortunate about what happened to Trinity this year. Hopefully Trinity will come back stronger and better than ever. Texas can really use more drum corps and you guys were a big feather in the Lone Star State's cap. If Trinity is not in your future, there are always other options for you to march, and you have plenty of time to make those dreams come true. Looking forward to hearing about your continued marching/performing successes in the future. Be sure to tell us on DCP all about them. There is even a part of DCP where you can look for/ask for sponsorship for your drum corps experience. Maybe the Blue Devils are even possibly in your future. Only you can decide that and remember you are the master of your own destiny. Good Luck!
