On Regiment's website it thanks the cavies for their kind gesture after the show. Did the Cavies play something for Regiment? I remember in 06 when Cavies won, Phantom arced up in the end zone and played Elsa's for the Cavies. I thought it was great. Did the Cavies do something similar on Saturday?

Oh I completely agree, it shouldn't, but I think it does.

IMHO, it depends what corps we're talking about, and it depends how badly they screw up. I would imagine corps in the top 5 region would not suffer as bad from such a night. Where as corps in that 10 and lower region probably could have a big fall out if such a thing happened.

PS I agree that Focter is pretty bad spelling. C'mon ppl. : p

There is really no point in debating whether DCI would allow this. It would be a terrible decision for the corps. Shows are a little more complicated than they were in 1976. : )

Man, this is going to be such a tight race for the top. I really hope it stays this close when all those top corps actually start to meet up(it likely won't but meh).

Wow, this is some very good stuff. Good musical choices and great arranging. No wonder their sticking to the devils. :P

My understanding was always that the corps song changed from Elsa's, to Amazing Grace, to Fire of Eternal Glory, to Ave Maria, and to Elsa's again(perhaps not in that exact order). Regardless, it's definitely Elsa's right now. And its beautiful. Also, I would add that the Colts have a corps song: Morning. Heard it in Dubuque this summer. Very nice.

I think I just listed their concepts with their name. So ya, I do.

To start, I want to say that this was an exciting finals week and I loved it. BUT I want to point out a trend I noticed. It seems like a lot of corps are basing their shows on somewhat shallow two-dimensional visual concepts. They then take this concept, either write or pick music that fits. Examples(NOTE: I am not bashing these corps. I really liked some of these shows): Bluecoats "Connexus", SCV "Moto Perpetuo", Crown "In-trance-it", BDB "Chain Reaction", Southwind "Duality", etc. One could also argue that Cavies and Colts were in this bin too. Why I'm not really fond of this approach: This makes the show completely visually driven, and musically lacking. It also lacks the depth a show driven by a story or larger theme can give. Now, I don't want this to turn into "BUT I liked SCV/Coats/Crown/BDB/Southwind/Cavies/Colts". In several of those cases, so did I. I'm just saying that a more complex show concept would be better. Any thoughts?

Actually, to tell the truth, the members wrote their own drill there. They basically told us to run around the field as fast as we can. We just had to wind up in that set. The set we finished in is an iceberg. Once when they were trying to get us to play louder there JD Shaw shouted "You're in a freakin iceberg! Get a clue!" or something very similar. PS so add 2005 to the list of years that use icebergs.

I just wanted to say that usually I'm not a huge fan of Crown. But this year's show is good stuff!

The Colts show is finals material. Great horn book. Great drill. Overall package makes sense. All they need to do is get their drumline in gear. If Spirit levels off at all, they're toast.

I constantly got flak for being Canadian... I just told people I couldn't hear them over my free health care and better beer. But seriously, (I hope that) most stuff ike that is good natured. Members look out for each other, despite any boundaries.

My understanding of it(I was told it last year at history night, but maybe my memory is bad) was that they were just looking at the back of album covers and saw the title "Phantom Regiment" and liked it. I don't think they bothered to listen to the tune. I have a copy of "The Phantom Regiment"(Score and parts) by Leroy Anderson. :) It is my baby.

The principal for CSO marched Spirit. His dad is Freddy Martin, who teaches at PR now. Freddy is the freakin Yoda of drum corps. Seriously, I swear his mere prescence made our mellophone line play better. Now we're talking about it, I thought someone told me that Blink 182's drummer marched.... Might or Might not be true.

Before I read the opening statement, I WAS going to say John Chipper. I mean, dude, the guy has his own feature on the 96 DVD. He's drum corps famous.

*slaps head to forehead* Apparently no one listens to me. PHANTOM'S ENTIRE VISUAL STAFF INCLUDING COLOUR GUARD WAS NEW LAST YEAR. IN 04 THE GUARD WAS 10TH, IN 05 THEY WERE 4TH. LAST YEAR OUR VIS SCORES WERE USUALLY HIGHER THAN OUR BRASS SCORES. WE WON FEET AT QUARTERFINALS. IT'S THE SAME STAFF THIS YEAR. Do I need to make a seperate thread to announce this? No offense Medea. I'm just trying to make a point here.

The man is a freakin genius. However, I think I'm right in saying that he had a bad experience as a trumpet player in a marching band. I think they told him he was "impossible" or something. So he might not be too keen.

I made the same observation at the Dubuque and Rockford shows.

I'm rooting for the Stars. And the Colts of course.

It wouldn't be drum corps without one or the other. This thread is also officially... silly.
