Phantom Regiment faces $367K lawsuit
drumcorps4ever replied to Murph's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I doubt phantom is going anywhere, but the organization has hurt themselves by not addressing this issue before the bank took it to collections. Trust me, it must have gone a lot bad for the bank to take these extreme measures. If Phantom's cost of borrowing doubles, will it hurt the corps? Yes............... -

Thanks for posting that, as a Phantom supporter, I feel better now..........:) I am sure you guys will work something out, usually creditors would rather work out a reduced payment plan than got to collections or do a writeoff. Good luck, looking forward to Phantom 06 on the field! -

And the next time Phantom needs a loan the answer will either be NO or at rates they couldn't afford. Sir, you are correct, and it doesn't mean the bank is "MEAN" or "DOESN'T CARE", it's about business. I have worked with non-profits for years, and have negotiated lines of credit and loans before. In some cases, these groups have had to collateralize their hard assets or have board members pledge personal liability for the loans. That is the exception rather than the rule, but it gets ugly if you have a shaky loan payment history. This CAN'T HELP them go to another bank in Rockford, they may have to go higher interest with a bank outside the area........... Maybe they need Scott Stewart as an advisor. When he left the Scouts, they had $500,000 in surplus AND was paying for a Div I corps every year........... -
Cadets Drum Line
drumcorps4ever replied to Snapettes Mom's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Except SCV schooled everyone in 04, breaking the streak. I doubt SCV "schooled everyone" last year. If you want to be known as the TOP DOG, you gotta do it more than a year.......... How did SCV do in drums THIS YEAR? How will they do NEXT YEAR? I disagree with your premise that SCV played stuff noone else has ever done, and was much harder. I think it's pretty close between the top 4 lines........... Under your premise, then the Cadets "schooled everyone" this year............. :P -

I remember hearing about this loan in 2001. Some other corps will jealous of how friendly the bank was to borrow the money to Phantom. Well, I work at a bank, and if you don't make loan payments, they don't care about your 50 year history...............they will go to collections. -
Cadets Drum Line
drumcorps4ever replied to Snapettes Mom's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Well, the JUDGES seem to think they're firing on all cylinders..........:) I don't think ANY top line plays easy stuff, but I'm not a drummer......... I don't know if Moondance was hard or not for the snares. I DO KNOW the crowd response was incredible, and it sounded together to me............ I personally like the drum feature in 98 Cadets. Lots of licks and some wild bass drum work........:) Maybe drums is a stretch for you guys here, but I doubt anyone will dispute who has had the toughest mellophone parts to play for the past 20 years.......... Listen to 95 or 98 or 2001.......OUCH!! -
Loudest Sop's Ever
drumcorps4ever replied to Euph_Dolphin's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
[Yes the Muchachos were loud, just not IMHO AS LOUD as Madison....keep in mind this is about SOPRANOS! I have to agree with this statement, although I DID SEE 75 Scouts live, but not Muchachos..........:) I think the Scouts started their BIG SOUND around 1974 and up............if you asked 500 DCI fans who has been the CONSISTENTLY LOUDEST corps the past 20 or 30 years, how many times will the Scouts be mentioned? A LOT!! They didn't just "push", they blew you back like the old Maxell tape commercials with the dude sitting in a chair, and the wind blowing him back.......... -

In the beginning days of DCI, brass folks didn't call sections by the instrument, but by the "voice"" Soprano Voices Mid Voices Baritone Voices Euphonium Voices Contra Voices It referred to the voice's "pitching" in the line. The horns were all G pitched instruments that were called "bugles", which is funny because the Webster definition of a bugle is a NON-VALVED intrument used to make military calls in battle, etc. "G bugles" were merely, in the case of 2-valve "sopranos", 2-valve trumpets pitched in the key of G. SOme purists will argue that the horns were bugles because they had a conical bore, but keep in mind cornets for years have had a conical bore and they ARE NOT called bugles........ Hope that helps..............

Amen......great quote. I live in the Milwaukee area, and I can assure you..........they LOVE the Pioneers...............:)

Perhaps, but the problem still rests with the adjudication of it. If you use DCI scoring sheets, that's not fair. If you use BOA scoring sheets, not sure if it's fair either. I would say MOST talent today fore corps comes from high school bands, and the best high school bands probably have a lot of the best DCI talent in them. I'll go with 10-21 as a possibilty. I don't see ANY band beating someone like Scouts or Bluecoats or anyone on that level or above. But, it Hoppy gets his way and gets saxophones and other woodwinds into DCI, you might as well start using the BOA scoring captions............of course you would lose 80% of the drum corps fan base.........but whatever............

Funny to hear the banter.........:) I was in a marching band that won state VFW and American Legion 2 out of 4 years, and took 2nd the other two. However, when I marched a Div I corps, my eyes were opened. I didn't march Blue Devils, but our corps would have SPANKED any high school band in the state..........like a redheaded stepchild......... If you going to talk about the TOP 1% of all marching bands going toe-to-toe with Div I, I get to pick the top 1% of corps to match up. Hmmmmmmmm with only about 90 corps left, the top 1% would be #1, so I'll say the 2005 Cadets.........:) I will personally fly and out and apologize to ANY band director in the country that can beat the Cadets head to head in a competition.........and do it publicly as well.......... Don't think I'll be booking any trips in my lifetime................
