I miss all Cymbal lines. For many years SCV and the Scouts had the most entertaining Cymbal lines and I would always encourage people to watch them for a while, they were great. Scouts Cymbal line was the heart and soul of our drum line in 1981. Every one of them were hilarious cut ups. The Cymbal line is the most visual in the drum line and the routines and visuals that they display are just fantastic.

Match grip should be against the law. I absolutely hate it. Unfortunately I had the march one season playing match grip and it just didn't feel the same.

I never ever mocked the Madison Scouts uniform. Heck, I joined the corps because of the uni and because the scouts were so damm cool.

Interesting use of the English language...

Caution...non PC post here... The current costume trend towards sequined leotards and bodysuits hurts drum corps recruitment. I have talked with several young musicians who have said "I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a goofy girly costume like that". I really think the activity is limiting its potential recruits. I would love to see the drum corps activity do what the NFL & MLB do with using throwback uniforms. Obviously it wouldn't make financial sense for a corps to have a throwback uni for just 1 show, so make it for the entire season. Each corps can use a throwback uniform. I wonder what the reaction would be? I am guessing (hoping) that the response would reinvigorate the activity and bolster recruiting.

BD 1981 drum line finished 9th. The next year Tom Float was BD's drum guy.

Matched grip is unnatural to me. I HATED matched grip, only had to use it 1 year.

Also, the stick rests on the fingernaiI on the ring finger. I thought SCV invented that left hand grip in the early seventies?

We were allowed to load up our coolers and drink Beer, and smoke cigs in uniform. Guys smoked joints on the bus and blew into pillows, and black beauties were the friend of many a snare drummer...so I'm told.
