  1. Quite frankly comments like these serve to illustrate what's wrong with the current system. The past should have absolutely no influence on judging at a show tonight New show, new kids, in some cases new staff at every corps. Everyone should be starting from zero at the beginning of the season. No one should be elite except at the end of finals. And next year you should have to earn it all over again Even the *suggestion* that the past is influencing the judges is just wrong. I understand that the past matters to fans but it should never matter to judges.
  2. Too much green? Reminds me of... My dear young man, don't take it too hard. Your work is ingenious. It's quality work. And there are simply too many notes, that's all. Just cut a few and it will be perfect. Emperor Joseph II, Amadeus Maybe Crown has too many notes as well?
  3. World Class 1 Holy Name Cadets 77.500 2 Carolina Crown 76.600 3 Boston Crusaders 69.900 4 Glassmen 68.300 5 Colts 64.200 Open Class 1 Capital Regiment 62.700
  4. @willisje Anyone of those two could win tonight. Carolina is much cleaner, so they should win considering their performance was wonderful.
  5. Kevin, One word : run-flats !! Thanks for amazing play by plays.
  6. Guard costumes are all fairy tale characters: girls: tinkerbell, briar rose, princesses, gypsies, little green riding hood, guys: peter pan, princes, knights, jack (of beanstalk fame), etc... I can't say I've been given a full explanation but the show revolves around a storm throwing ordinary folks into a fairy tale land where things look so much better only turns out they're not.... I was very dubious about the whole green thing when i first saw it but at a distance it is extremely effective in creating an surreal emerald-city kind of feel to the show.
  7. It doesn't look to be a fair race...clearly Crown's vehicle is a Decepticon!
  8. When are the additional judges added to panels? Doesn't seem to published on DCI.org anywhere.
  9. I think he means that Cadets and Crown are going to continue to be very close to each other scorewise.
  10. Ummm....that's not the caption I would have chosen to make this point. Cadets have beaten Crown 4 times in the past 2 year head-to-head in guard. And while the Z-pull is surely coming and will excite the heck out of the crowd, I don't think it will have the same effect on the judges. As the season wears on I think depth of design is going to be a gigantic factor in how these 2 great corps are scored. Everyone is glad to see Cadets pull back from the show designs of the past few years. But did they over-correct and go a little too much old school? We'll see.
  11. I'd think yes so long as they're in the pit -- they're nothing more than triggers for a midi module. I'd be a little worried about a laptop surviving however.
  12. Widely ranging opinions on exactly the same shows! Gotta love it. I agree with the scoring so far; I think Cadets should be beating Crown because they are cleaner right now. And I think the margin (~1 pt) bodes well for Crown passing Cadets in the not-too-distant future; the cream team is very, very dirty visually. Cadets are making things happen already. How that all plays out is why there's show every night! Will Cadets be able to take advantage of their lead in cleanliness or will Crown start getting credit for content as it gets cleaner? Only the shadow (and his little slip of yellow paper) knows !! ---- mike
  13. Don't judge based on webcasts. For example the electonics which seemed to generate the most head-turns and groans from the crowd (a synthetic string patch? Glassmen: 4:35 on FN) overpowered the ensemble sound when live but is much quieter on the FN. Everyone except Cadets seemed to have at least one balance issue (eg. Crown's music box patch in the middle of ballad was great in Chambersburg but much too low in Annapolis). Cadets, Crown, and G-Men (with that one exception) do seem to use the synth very tastefully. I'm on the fence about Boston (because their apple-bite is a great moment but some other are equally not-so-great. Colts ocean sounds are just not very convincing. ---- mike
  14. FWIW I use chrome for the FNetwork v2. I find it works much better than FF (for me at least). I agree about the interface being a bit more confusing than it needs to be. ---- mike
  15. Lol yeah probably it is. I guess the point I was trying to make is that it's really difficult to fix design decisions that are made early in the process. I actually came into this show really wanting to see a great Cadets show. I was even excited about a new take on WSS (which is a challenge but who better to turn something on its head and make us look at it differently). Maybe in the attempt to pull back from the "cutting edge" they went just a little too far back?? Dunno but there were what seemed like several long periods of time where I was waiting for something to happen and it just didn't. I was disappointed that the show took me nowhere. ---- mike
  16. Wow. Didnt seem that way live. Crown is very dirty but IMHO is already attempting a much wider range of vocabulary in their book musically and visually. The Cadets seemed to me cleaner in the ensemble brass and visual. But they have big problems with show design. There's some really nice (impressive even) drill moments and some really nice brass moments but coordination for effect is severely lacking. I'm afraid they may have put all their impressive horsepower into a yugo. ---- mike
  17. There are still quite a few"not confirmed" housing dates on the Crown calendar. I will ask Megh today if I get a chance. ---- mike
