  1. fine.. go for it. i'll be holding my breath waiting for it. (no I really wont but oh well) do we know where everyone will finish in aug??? Nope. Really what we all need to be doing is going out and watching drum corps and not worrying about placements this early in the season. Life is too short. And I'm proud to have helped out the 2007 madison scouts (no matter where they finish be it 1st or 20th) how about lets just see what they can do with THEIR show.
  2. no not really. your response is puzzling I have spent time with these guys and the have the attitude to do what it takes. we shall see where it ends up. its not about the past its about these guys today not in 86. OK!
  3. I remember that well.(since I was there) that is why I have faith in the scouts.
  4. Great. I also hope for the best with them. I know first hand a large deficit can be overcome and sucess can be achieved. i know they have it in them to do it. Bset wishes to the 2007 scouts.
  5. the continual doomsaying about the scouts is whats getting a little ridiculus. To declare a show "not top 12 material" and you saw the 1st show of the season. to make a declaration like that is rather short sighted. <**> They have a well designed show that has lots of potential. They will be just fine regardless of what is said here. I had the pleasure of helping them (cooking carrying etc.) before tour. They are a fine group of young men and I am proud of them no matter where they finish.
  6. I dont really agree with that statement. you had at one point or another, Vk, freelancers, 27th lancers, les eclipse, troopers, crossmen, dutch boy. etc etc etc. each year is its own. in 86 we got beat by phantom by 19 points at a show in june. by finals we beat them by 2 points for 9th place. so anything is possible. but there were more corps back then too.
  7. I had the pleasure of helping them out this week. (cleaning, fetching etc.) I was there too and could'nt agree more.
  8. I saw them last night too. i was impressed overall. good luck to the guys this summer the uniforms look MUCH better than that one pic indicates.
  9. looking at the uniforms tonignt... the picture makes the light green look much lighter than it actually is. In person they look pretty decent. looking forward to the dress rehersal this sat. b**bs
  10. i dont think so... How is 132 "too small" so far they look really good when I've been watching them (yesterday)
  11. bravo. THAT is what it(drum corps) is really all about.
  12. it does sound kina old school (in the really good way ) I like it a lot
  13. I also remember the big meeting we had on I think the mass turnpike on first tour. also the infamous "acting exercise in hutch" It's hard to believe were were really that young is'nt it tim? (was'nt the avg age around 16.5 or so?) got to see the scouts at their open house this year. It was great but really made me feel old. The big thing about the Sky Ryders in those days is that we treated each other like a family.
  14. the 86 sky ryders rewrote the entire drill between tours. (thanks nolan ) we started out VERY slowly and ended in a great fashion. we were never assured that we would make finals that year. A lot of extremely hard work and dedication went into it and I was proud to be a part of it. as far as the visual program goes... we finished 9th in field and ensemble visual at finals. drums on the other hand..... one of my favorite memories was coming out to the back sideline at semifinal and gett a standing ovation for the corps before we even entered the field. that was very cool. B)
  15. hmmmm. which will I pick. gotta go with 86 ryders since I was there. :P
  16. you forgot the ever present "my era of drum corps was better than it is today" It is of course............................................J/K
  17. thanks for the info brad. I was out of the loop for Looooong time and did'nt really know what had happened or what led up to it. my recent move to wisconsin has reawakened my drum corps gene. you really need to write down the "changing of the day" ceremony.
  18. heres a quick one on instructors for you. .. in 85 we had a new low brass tech key poulan currently of scv fame. the flamingos were around for as long as I could remember. lots and lots of great people. 88 was probably my favorite year because i met my wife there 87 was a great design. a lot of hardship for us including the death ride from denver to allentown.
  19. tim has ALWAYS been a wealth of information. Thanks for that
  20. that would have been 89. when he was on staff for us. to the op...i can try to answer anything about when i was in.
  21. gotta go with my family....1986 sky ryders.
  22. both the wife and I were in d.c together. We met there. married for almost 16 years now. and recently moved to drum corp mecca (madison WI)
  23. that would be very consistant with my expriences with him in the 80's I don't doubt what you said one iota. he seems to wind up getting canned everwhere he goes.
  24. when i remember him. I remember him berating members, excessive and brutal punishments for mistakes and inappropriate propositions to my bus partner (which he personally told me about) I'll keep names out of it for now. but, yes I can name names. He was canned after that one. does that seem like caring???? I don't remember him as such.
  25. I remember Mr. Bush. Not favorably at all. I wont go into specifics here but he is at the bottom of the list as far as any drum corps instructors I've met or worked with. bad conduct even back then by him <**>
