  1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120824501740 Just in time for Christmas! I am selling my custom 14"x12" Pearl FFXC Marching Snare Drum in Emerald Mist lacquer finish with chrome hardware. This drum has been in my personal collection since I bought it in 2009. For those of you playing along with the home game, yes this is the same finish the Santa Clara Vanguard had in 2009. In fact, this drum was a part of the original shipment to SCV but was returned unused as the corps did not need it so I was able to acquire the drum direct from Pearl in Nashville, TN. The Emerald Mist green lacquer finish is beautiful and is in perfect condition. I have kept the drum wrapped in a Pearl drum cover (included) except for performances and remains in a case (not included) when not used. The chrome hardware is in great condition with only a few minor issues. As I've tried to show in pictures, a little of the chrome is chipped on one of the down tubes and the bottom rim is nicked up where it looks like someone at SCV was a little rough when trying to adjust or remove the snare guards. It was like that when I received the drum. This is an FFXC model where the inner ply of the shell is carbon-ply which gives the drum a little extra "snappiness" allowing the sound to cut really well while maintaining a nice, warm sound. All 14 original guts still on the drum. There is no carrier mounting hardware on this drum as it has never been marched. It should be noted the stand in the picture is NOT included with this auction. Only the drum, cover and original box is included. The heads on the drum are an Evans Grey Hybrid batter and MX5 snare side. In addition to the custom finish and SCV connection, this drum has also been played on in the following notable performances by yours truly: 2009 DCA Snare I&E (3rd place) - 2010 DCA Snare I&E (1st place) - 2010 DCA Mini Corps Champion Star United Drum & Bugle Corps (score of 99.5) - 2011 DCA Mini Corps Champion Star United Drum & Bugle Corps (score of 100.0) - Feel free to ask any questions you have. If you're local to the Lexington/Louisville, KY area we can arrange for pickup in lieu of shipping. Own this beautiful drum that also has been a part of drum corps history! Buyer agrees to pay shipping of $30.00 in addition to the final cost of the drum (unless a pickup)
  2. Yep, I've certainly seen Warren around but never had the pleasure of speaking with him. Thank you for the link.
  3. I didn't know Warren but as a brother in drumming, my sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
  4. I wish DCI would fix the iTunes Field Pass RSS feed because it hasn't worked in months.
  5. Might go to the DCI Fan Network and check out the videos that are free (if you don't have a subscription) to test it out. The DCA Fan Network will be the same infrastructure and should be indicative of your experience. I've watched several live events on the DCI and WGI Fan Networks (both the DCI infrastructure) and have been pleased with the experience.

  7. That's the pink elephant in the room. Everyone complains about DCI being so boring yet when Alliance comes out with a "DCI-like" show DCA crowds love it because it adds variety to the night. Perhaps DCI shows aren't as boring as people let on.
  8. Bump... I&E is the only way to truly experience DCA!
  9. I'd also recommend contacting Box5 directly for any questions as DCP isn't necessarily the best sounding board. I had a question about an order I had, called the office, talked to real person and I was a happy customer.
  10. I think that was very smart of Tama. Allowed them to test more discreetly as well as get a better understanding of the abuses the equipment goes through. In DCI the drums would get played on a ton more, but top 12 lines are going to take better care of the equipment than high school kids. Not to mention testing drums and stands for all conditions like bleachers at football games and varied temps versus just plain hot during the summer will give the designers a better understanding of how the products will be used in the real world.
  11. I tend to disagree as I've been able to achieve much more resonance and projection with the Evans heads. The marching products have developed into game-changing heads allowing lines to explore many more colors than previously possible.
  12. I believe they've been using the FS-PR2's since they were developed. Great stick which I've played the most the last couple of years.
  13. Not necessarily new but the Pearl S-1000 stand is double-braced and goes high enough for a marching snare drum. This is the same stand Santa Claara Vanguard has used for years and the stands Blue Devils used when they switched to Pearl last year. http://www.pearldrum.com/Products/Marching...arl-Stands.aspx
  14. The "Blue Lights Across the Bluegrass" is a Kentucky State Police traffic safety campaign with increased awareness and enforcement in targeted areas to boost revenue road safety. The blue lights significance relates to the blue lights on all KSP and KY Vehicle Enforcement patrol cars.
  15. The story checks out, BD is no longer at Carmel HS.
  16. I can't say for sure this year but the live feed did include the Cavaliers Anniversary Corps performance two years ago.
  17. Cavaliers beat Blue Devils in percussion last night in Allentown... just like we did the weekend before Finals in '95.
  18. Yes, definitely a good read. I've never met Clark but really admire his character and the responses he provided. I remember watching them in the lot at DCM prelims in '93 before they got the cream uniforms. They're weren't tracking but with the book they were playing and the met chirping along we were intrigued with what we were seeing and hearing. Later that summer at the Mid-America show in Bloomington, we were rehearsing on one of the fields on campus, as were many other corps. We broke for lunch and decided to take a walk to find a convenience store. What we saw on our way made us stop in our tracks. Star's drumline was blocked up and literally running down the parking lot of IU stadium playing parts of Medea with Brent Montgomery chasing after them with the Long Ranger and metronome. We had never seen anything like that and quite frankly, glad we didn't have to do that. Then again, Star got the last laugh by winning drums that year. But, we did manage to beat them on the field that night in Bloomington but tied in overall percussion. We beat Star on the field 4 times that summer and tied in overall percussion three times so those are the only victories I've had over Star. Not much but I'll take what I can get.
  19. General observation in the age of the social web through Facebook and Twitter updates tells me Blue Devils and Cavaliers sleep the most and get the most free time. Not a comprehensive investigation but past experience paired with available current information paints the picture.
  20. Ah yes, I am mistaken. Chuck Norris will roundhouse Ditka in the parking lot and take the trophies. No one questions Chuck and the placements are adjusted accordingly.
