  1. Don't worry Wild, it doesn't matter now anyway. You and I both know that 2006 is the year of Faust! Phantom will win the championship!
  2. Well, considering the Blue Devils are already sitting at 89.45, and they will have the Bluecoats breathing down their necks tonight, I will predict Blue Devils break 90 tonight!
  3. I don't think it is off topic at all. I think these macro paradigms are at the heart of many of our current wealth disparity issues. And I am not only speaking of rich versus poor regarding income, but sports versus arts, private enterprise versus public, etc. There was a great story during the 1993 finals broadcast on PBS (in the U.S.) about some basic studies done with the Star of Indiana and Indiana University that showed some startling results of the fitness and effort a drum corps member exerts during practice/show. A tenor player was hooked up to some breathing apperatus and the results showed his heart rate, exhalation rate, etc. was similar to that of a professional marathoner during the middle of a marathon. I applaud Laurier University and Dutch Boy!
  4. It is not necessarily a "consumer culture" that is making it more difficult for non-profits to prosper, it goes way higher than that. My wife runs a non-profit (org that helps people learn how to help themselves) in Minneapolis, and she has difficulty funding the organization from month to month. Even a few years ago this wasn't an issue. Our current political climate in the U.S. (read current executive and legislative administrations) have tried to create a paradigm shift in charitable giving/volunteering so that now much public money previously earmarked for cultural or arts based activities among others, is given to faith-based organizations. The neo-conservative movement has as much to do with the difficulty for non faith-based non-profits to prosper than a "consumer culture." So blame Bush.
  5. Try having some of the great music you have heard outside of drum corps and translate it into only horns and percussion and then reevaluate.
  6. Ok, well I just looke up 1988-present, and the earliest date was July 15th for both 2002 and 2003. I'm too lazy to look up any more. 2002 Cavaliers 2003 Cavaliers and Cadets
  7. This is kind of a mean post. If these kids were professionals, I would have an opinion regarding 23rd place. Have you seen Magic and Pioneer perform? They are both doing an admirable job!
  8. My feeling is that highwater pants will affect placement negatively, however like everything 1970's, the trend may change and next year's champion most likely WILL be wearing floods!
  9. Well, this is a DCA corps, but Minnesota Brass! The guard gets down into swimsuits (at least that's what it looks like from the upper deck!).
  10. Mine would have been Madison 1988. That Malaguena finale still gives me goosebumps.
  11. Really, this subject is getting a bit overplayed, don't you think?
  12. Just please don't drop the "Capital" part, because then people would confuse you for Phantom.
  13. I truly believe you can lump the Cavaliers and Blue Devils in this category as well. The Cadets and Phantom (and in the relative past) Bluecoats have all shown they can turn it up several notches at the end of the season. While less than a point separates Cavies from Blooo from Phantom, they all have work to do. Blue Devils show is already so clean, can they go anywhere else? I have seen several posts from people at recent shows that Phantom's show is DIRTY. Dirty horns and drill. So with those two things, they are scoring less than a point from the Cavies and Blooo? Man, I can't wait for finals.
  14. I went to the Indy show and loved every minute of it! I think the top 20 are all exciting and fun, and there is a lot of drama this year, with so many corps outscoring each other night in and night out...now if someone can just beat BD before finals, we'll really have a battle on our hands...
  15. Or, the Velvet Knights (pronounced K-Nigits like in Monty Python's Holy Grail) They could do the music of SPAMALOT!!!! How sweet would that be?
  16. Thanks! It's nice to actually see how the corps stack up side by side.
  17. I only saw it on the front page of drumcorpsplanet. Maybe it was a big secret until they posted the official story. Or maybe we have to get all our posts in real quick before we get shut down.
  18. Hey, great spoofy marketing idea...you should send it to your favorite corps!
  19. What are the closest bar/grills to the campus? I am staying at a hotel RIGHT next to the stadium.
  20. IN THAT the Bluecoats scored 87? I too am confused by your strange syntaxical take on the English language!
  21. I don't have a problem with narration or amping as long as it doesn't become the focus. Obviously that has been a problem for some fans with a choice few corps. But I read a post earlier about Bluecoats and Santa Clara long before them using amps for steel drums, which the audience never would have heard otherwise. That makes sense to me. Also, vocals can be used interestingly and effectively, as evidenced by the Bluecoats and Cadets last year.
