  2. We need more of this kinda stuff on DCP. That was awesome. God at the end it sounds like he needs a cigarette or something.
  3. Old news. Still fun, but old. What news is new? Jerry Falwell died. Not exactly a drum corps joke tradition or anything, just a good thing for mankind in general.
  4. There are a couple programs that take volunteers for this problem. The one I participate in is: www.buglersacrossamerica.org They provide the bugle. The case has a placard with the name of the veteran and the name of the bugler, and when you're done, you present it to the family. It's a great program, and cities all over are in serious need, especially for our remaining WWII vets and even a lot of Vietnam vets.
  5. I think by now those comments are just as much a part of finals as anything else. If anything, it adds to that ambiance of finals night. Plus, if you really think the screaming is getting in the way of the music too much, you could always buy individual corps recordings. Now a-days most corps release standstill audio tracks.
  6. "The chickpea is neither a chick, nor a pea. Discuss!" - Mike Myers on SNL
  7. The only input I feel was given and used was the hight and width of the seating. More good stories, though.
  8. Yes, there is new turf. Great story. I'll have to ask our current marching director, David Carbone, about that.
  9. Actually, it was. When they were designing the stadium, they had other ideas in mind besides the UTA football team (they knew football was on its way out). The stadium was to provide a home venue for all the arlington schools, among other things. During the design process, university officials contacted Ray Lichtenwalter about what kind of stadium would be best for band events. His reply: "tall and narrow". So the stadium may not have been built for the band, but marching was kept in mind during the design.
  10. That just adds a whole new lvl of hilarity to the "mount rushmore story" Don tells.
  11. Jayzer...you know you're a music major, stop denying it! coooome to the dark siiide................
  12. Agreed. Not to mention the stadium was designed for the marching band just before the removal of the football team! It's great turf, well maintained, and the stands are very steep and stretch from 10-10 only. The stadium already hosts 3 marching contests, including a BOA show.
  13. I'm pretty sure that considering the extensive history of music, every progression has been used a ton of times. So given that logic: I'm sick of I6/4 V to I. That's been done way to often.
  14. In response to those who say that the 06 PR show is not understandable without prior knowledge of Faust: I had no knowledge of Faust before I saw the show, and I had no problem figuring out the story the show portrayed. How anyone could watch 06 PR and not "get it", is beyond me.
  15. A friend of mine, and current Bloo member, described the new uniform to me the other day. And I can honestly say, I've never been more excited about a uniform change.
  16. Untill you've built your chops up, stay on a horn mouthpiece. Holton MDC is a good mouthpiece for younger players. Once your playing and chops have matured you'll be able to handle the switching back and forth between a mello and horn mouthpiece. Once you're ready for a mello mouthpiece, the IYM mello mouthpiece is a great investment. Best on the market, IMO. If you have any questions along the way, check with your band director or private lessons teacher. Good choice, making the switch, btw.
  17. 2004 Magic: Pirates of The Caribbean Contra solo/contra vs snare drum attention battle. Very entertaining. Especially after the contra "won" at semis and spun that beast up on his shoulder. Crowd ate it up.
  18. 2004 Cavaliers: Contras only while the corps sneaks into the "007" set.
  19. I was kinda thinking that since the original quote was announced, just never said it. 2007 is definitely a reaction to 2006. Remember when great show design would tell the story or message you wanted to portray? No one needed to read anything over a loudspeaker for me to understand PR's Faust story.
  20. I've seen the pic everywhere. Amazing how fast one thing can spread across the internet.
  21. I recently bought a Coleman twin air mattress from Target. It cost 18.00 and is from a brand I can trust. Years of camping and high altitude backpacking can attest to the durability and reliability of Coleman products. The great thing about this mat, is that it rolls up into it's own carrying case. So when it's rolled up, it's about 8 inches tall, 12 inches wide and 5 inches thick. Best thing for holes and leaks: Bicycle tire repair kit. Costs less then 5 bucks and is tiny. Kit comes with rubber patches, a scrapper, and adhesive. When you get some free time, inflate your mattress. Then take a wad of wet paper towel and wipe it over sections of the mattress, looking for bubbles. Once ya find it, it takes a whopping 5 minutes to patch and dry. While I can't imagine a gym floor would lead to more punctures then a pine forest floor, better to be ready.
