OFFICIAL 2009 Madison Scouts Thread
dciguy1987 replied to acn's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
The real question is, how long can the Scouts stay out of the top 12 and still be viable? At some point, potential members will look at the fact that the Scouts are no longer a top 12 corps and go elsewhere. I don't want that to happen, but it is something that certainly the administrative staff have got to be concerned about. -
The demand in Crown's visual and music books is lower than their peer group. But they are another step toward a championship.

Granny is senile, needs to be committed, has fallen and cannot get up. -

Desperate party of one, desperate! -
No its WAY flat, flatter than the final baritone solo, which was possibly the worst display of pitch I have ever heard in drum corps.

Cavaliers ALWAYS because their ballads are SO melodic and beautiful and stirring...oh just kidding.

A relative minority in relation to those who follow the activity with an open mind. -
Madison Contest Tonight Question

I believe he was speaking as an alum and probably in the know with regard to the Spirit family. You are probably not in that circle, so what you are saying is not accurate nor relevant. -
WOW! Seeing that guard uinform...I haven't laughed that hard in a while...THANK YOU! Who in their right mind would design that? Not really liking the additions to the corps uniform either..doesn't help at all.

Madison Contest Tonight Question

I would think a corps playing a rock genre show would use a bass...seems pretty obvious to me. -
Ok, seriously, every one on here who has posted on this topic more than three times needs to get a life or a hobby or volunteer with a non-profit group. All design teams choose a show concept, develop it the best they can, in their own creative way, following the rules and hopefully providing the members with a great performance vehicle to enjoy for the summer. From what I have seen, Spirit has a great show that is crowd friendly, arranged by one of the best brass arrangers in the activity and will give an historically significant corps a needed boost toward a return to the top 12. I am sure they intend to have more than seven tubas (looks like 3-4 holes out there to me) and will continue to develop the role of all the contributing musicians (including the electronics and amplified instruments). Whether you philisophically disagree if this is Drum Corps is irrelevent, this is where drum corps is in 2009, if you hate it that much then go watch some videos of the years you like and stay home. I SINCERELY doubt that the staff will listen to ANYTHING anyone has to say on DCP about the show they have put together. Given that list of names, they know WAY more than you do!

BRAVO! Very well put!

Last time I checked, the bass Spirit is using is within the rules and therefore not achieving "fake" results. Most good musicians choose to be as authentic as possible, the bass is part of the idiom and allowable under the rules so kudos to the design team for integrating an electronic instrument for the right musical reason.

I have seen a few teams this summer already, I would easily put the Crossmen behind Madison, Academy and Spirit based on the shw design and how far along they are at this point and their show is not done yet.

The Crossmen should be glad that they did not have a real show tonight, they are going to get creamed. -

I don't know, have not heard the arrangements for the 2009 season. I comment only on what I have personally seen and heard. -
The OFFICIAL 2009 Phantom Regiment Thread

As a design vehicle, the Red Violin looks and sounds like drum corps from 10 years ago. I honestly cannot see how the design team laid this big of an egg after last year. Although it does seem to be a pattern with Phantom the year following a very successful show. I LOVE Regiment, but this show is a huge disappointment. -
