  1. It could be a sign of a major finance issue for all corps. I learned today that some major charter bus companies have severely increased their rates. Where a quote that would have had each bus at about 1000.00 each for a trip are now coming in at 2000 to 2500.00 a bus. This is companies like Echo who I know charter out with corps. It’s already becoming an issue for HS bands that I work with.
  2. This! It takes time to develop a top-tier program. Look at what happened for BAC — you grow it over time, you get a good mix of rookies and vets accustomed to the teaching style, and look! Not exactly what happened at Boston, guard wise. It was more hire the 2016 high guard staff, they join up (yay!) some of the kids follow and boom 2nd in 2017, high Guard in 2018. posted from the DrumScorps app
  3. Although it’s still to early to be sure, after watching the the video a few times I don’t think I’d agree that the talent isn’t there in the guard. They won’t be on Boston’s tail but if/when they clean up, and fix the things that all corps do through out the summer, I believe they’re a stronger guard than last year and based off the other videos I’ve watched definitely top 12. I haven’t seen mandarins yet but the book has more meat and maturity than others in the 10-12 range. Looking at the numbers supports this. Keeping in mind different shows and judges. Madison’s Guard pulls a 12.8. two other corps in their neighborhood who were overall up by a couple points over the scouts had 12.6’s in Guard. And from the videos are unarguably cleaner right now. There are a couple sections in the show where you can see where they’ve cleaned. And if they stay that course I don’t think the guard will be the issue. Not a Madison “homer” although I do like the potential for the show this year. Just 25 years of Guard talking... for much to long it looks like. Lol
  4. As a guard person I will agree with Vanguard being a strong guard right before them but not Phantom. Phantoms guard was very clean very early because they weren't challenging those ladies very much. Beautiful dancers, but the equipment book was designed to be clean and stay that way. Cadets flag book was much more complex. Where cadets guard struggled was in the weapons. The new equipment while interesting to try because of the shape only offered a little in the way of new ideas and actually limited then some because of the extra curve to them. That plus a not so great finals run is probably why they ended up in fifth. The towers may have hurt Cadets Visual numbers but I don't think they did much to the guards number. Well maybe a little. Lol
  5. The new equipment had more curve to them. This while allowing to do a couple of cool things with them limited their vocabulary compared to the more standard rifles and sabers. This also made them much harder to clean. It took the cadets "weapons" line a long time to clean those things up and I'm not sure they completely succeeded. I'm not against trying new things but its going to take time to develop and I don't think these were good replacements.
  6. I'm glad I'm still experiencing first. First time I completely disagreed with 100 percent of what a poster says. Normally I can find a ray of at least understanding. Oh well Thanks. 😃
  7. The highest scoring corps will be decided by some judges to be Crown. The winner will be Vanguard.
  8. Have always been a Blue Devils Fan and even with the recent wins you will see Crown win the title. Watch the numbers.
  9. I don't think Cadets was the sixth place guard last night but I will agree with others that Crown, Vanguard, and BD all have amazing guard programs this year and taking any of them out is going to be extremely tough. The Cadets guard has one of the most difficult flag books out there right now and it is being spun really well. I think there were a few off spots last night that might have hurt, (although in my opinion not enough to rate them in sixth) Love Blue Knights show this year and the guard is really good but I'd have to watch the program again to see what the judge saw. I didn't think the work was there to be in 5th. Phantom is really clean but the demand level is not there which is why they were able to come out so clean so early. Very talented ladies who are performing what they're given extremely well, but they can probably do so much more. In WGI (not dci) terms its a open class show competing in a World class world. Their execution numbers matching the construction number from the judges reflect this but in my opinion they're maxing out, the what of they're getting should be lower number wise. In the end the judges aren't going to all agree, but I think Cadets guard is doing great. We'll see what happens over the next three weeks cause there is lots of time left.
  10. This is starting to sound a little to much like "we need to pass the bill so we can find out what's in it" for my taste... 😄
  11. Maybe I missed something, but did the Zach Woodlee thing end up happening today?
  12. I have to disagree, the successful WGI guards are not focusing on less dance, , at least not from what I saw at the many regionals and in Dayton this year. With one judge looking at nothing but movement, it would be suicide to think of downplaying dance in the modern WGI world. And as many of these same judges judge for DCI...
  13. The good news is it turns out not to be true. Pride has put up their 2008 audition information on their website!!
  14. Hi, ok everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so take this for what its worth, very little....but it seems to me much of the positive response is about how this will strengthen the guard and help the overall program while much (not all) of the negative response is about short dresses, leg spreading, and looking at girls. Theres also some anti-homosexual refrences thrown in as well. I understand being sad about the changing of tradition, I just question what tradition it is... Chris
