  4. 'Paint It Black' by the Stones would be sweet. Sorry, been watching too much Rockstar:INXS lately.
  5. Hey, how bout that.. So does Ryan Turner!
  6. I like your matter-of-fact style of review. I didn't catch the afternoon shows, but I agree pretty much with your views of the night gigs. It was cool to see a corps doing broadway tunes again. The years of Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, and City of Angels were among my all time favorite, though the only thing I took home with me from Spirit's show was their ballad. Nice collage of broadway ballads. The rest was hardly memorable. Couldn't tell you what Glassmen or Blue Knights (my hotdog corps) did. Vanguard was the only corps that gave me any resemblance of goose bumps simply because of RCM. I was too young to ever see their 87 show live and videos/CD recordings just don't cut it for me, so hearing SCV play it live was simply amazing. I think their show lacked a lot of meat, but I still loved it. Who cares if it was in 9th. I actually like their new look, more so than the green/red of the past few years. They have a very clean appearance which brings back memories of their late 80s/early 90s years. Was it Crown who had that unreal french horn sound? Don't remember, but there was one corps right around this point of the night who just belted out gorgeous midhorn sound. Sounded more like an orchestra horn section than a drum corps. Kudos! And thank you for not singing this year. Now fix your plumes. :P Boston - Don't remember Bluecoats - I can't say I remember a single part of their show, but what I DO remember is how great they were! WoW! Awesome sound, great look, very very cool. Phantom had me looking up to see if it were raining, then realizing we were inside a dome. Don't know how I feel about the guard gimmick, for lack of better term, but what I do know is I LOVED their Gershwin charts! Such a refreshing book for Phantom, and they performed it well. For the first time in many years I didn't feel like I was hearing rehashed pit parts and horn hits. Madison... Bout all I remember is the Malguanea tag they threw in near the end. Oh, and that chick in red. Neat. I guess. Devils - I agree with you completely here.. They didn't play anything that lasted long enough to really get into it, AND they rehashed some horn arrangements from past years. Or at least they were similar enough for me to think so. Who was narrating? Someone in the pit? I spent the entire 12 minutes looking for the narrator and paid no attention to anything else. For a while I thought it was pre-recorded, which I'm not sure is allowed? Or is it. Whatever. The show put me to sleep (sans that one incredibly LOUD hit they smacked us with towards the end). Didn't like it. I got it. Just didn't like it. Sorry. Cadets - SCHOOLGIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^OO^ Cavies - Don't remember much except they moved well.
  7. Defintely #58! I'd recognize those anywhere! b**bs b**bs
  8. It's easy to compare and criticize a new corps who does the "entertainment first" route. There were plenty of people who complained that VK was copying Bridgemen when they switched from their more traditional cadet to the Hawaiian shirt wearing crowd pleasing style.** Well, shouldn't that be flattering to Bridgemen to have a corps who loves your style and wants to spread that style to more fans? Not saying that was VK's intent. Nor is it Impulse or Surf's intent to copy these corps. But so what if it is? I mean, afterall, if we only had one sitcom on TV to watch time and time again, life would be boring. I say the more fun corps the better!!! **I've heard that some have even blamed VK for the demise of Bridgemen, stating that DCI only had room for one corps with that style (we got boo'd at the Bayonne show in 1992). Don't know the truth behind that. Just what I heard back in '92. I'm hoping that's completely false :( Please confirm if anyone knows the facts.
  9. Sorry, was fresh out of Hawaiian shirts. Don't think we really need a forum just for theater reviews. That's sort of silly. A single consolidated topic will do. We all saw the same show. What people said, booed, heckled, or joked about may have been funny at the moment, but it doesn't mean much to anyone who wasn't in that particular theater. And those who were there, already know what was said, booed, heckled, or joked about. But hey, whatever.
  10. Ryan, I had a seat right next to me in theater 10, big boy. Could have spared some of your sanity.
  11. Won't happen. They broke the press when creating the first one!
  12. Theater 10 in Irvine was much smaller than the second one they opened up for the over flow crowd. Guess they were thinking "eh, band geeks.. they don't need that much room." I waltzed over during intermission to see who was in that theater and immediatly found myself blinded by Ryan's Hawaiian shirt. Ever think about a career in air traffic control? :P
  13. I give Glassmen's "HI MOM!" skirt lift from the guard hi props!!! ^OO^ And that Cavie guy who told Jessica Allen he'd show her how to be a Bond girl is now legendary. Buy that man a beer!!! b**bs
  14. I knew there was a good reason I chose theater 21 instead of 10 in Irvine! :P
  15. Make that 1.25. The announcer made a boo boo. See Turner? You're not the only one! LOL!!!
  16. I was doing the same thing... Searching frantically for the person(s) in the pit who were making those sounds, convinced they were being amplified. What a great affect, and no amps were needed!!! ^OO^
  17. Very cool! Great percussion work by Mandarins.
  18. By the way, Seattle was looking good at the parade! Good luck at Finals this year.
