  1. I was in the 600's.The horns seemed to be pointing at the mid 500's and you are right about the amps and speakers..the only thing that carried was the SNARE sound..especially on the rims. The venue was comfortable...during the hottest part of the day and the visual presentations were more effective without the elements factoring in..............But good sound was the major sacrifice...and it was a huge negative.
  2. So much easier to attach the vehicle than the content.
  3. Amen......have'nt been a fan of the corps for a number of years and was finding it harder and harder...yet this year.......... I was up at least twice during the show......great job!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Before finals these are some thoughts about different units..............Colts......thought most underated of all the bottom six/seven ...by far....should have made it in...... Troopers playing West Side Story....didn't really make it....even though the play on words......Troopers and WSS........no...no...no.....though a very talented group......could hear and see them trying to play the game...... Blue Knights..............why is it ................this is perennially the finest colection of all sections................and never goes past the next step...............maybe they should play to the crowd more.....because right now they just sit thre in their own bubble......some nice stuff for sure.......but Boston.....a good job...second half...loved the grd. Bluecoats.....WTF...were they thinking..........what a waste of talent...those kids were talented............poor show design ..worst by far...but then Imagine...?? someone (judges)likes them...nobody around my sections.....even though a lot of us were fans.....of the corps......could even fake it SCV..........great visual second half..... Cavaliers.....grd...grd...grd............then the Great Divide Holy Name.....props for having the balls and show design smarts...for playing it as it should be done.....one of my very favourites this year...very innovative in a lot of ways...best in years.. Carolina..........wow........loved the whole package... Devils..........some times yes and sometimes ok..and sometimes wow.....better from up top though. Just some thoughts...How'bout u ???
  5. congrats to Troopers....but shouldn't be at the expense of one of the finest shows out there ........ Colts................ Bluecoats ..even though very talented ...........in all areas especially perc............should have been left out......just on show design itself
  6. Paid 45/ticket for quarters in the 6th deck....people beside me paid 11/..............never again .....advance...... No sound damper in the stadium...bouncing off steel and steel decking????
  7. Gee the poor guy got flamed for thinking what most fans are thinking..........too bad..............entertain me .........however you do it ....but entertain me!!!..........We've seen so many shows lately designed to entertain (please pick one) the judges..the affecionado...the designers.....and still spelling bees get on national TV before our art............let me hear another Wagner creation butchered by a musical genious in the guise of a drum corps musical director and be told how creative any lack of melody is and I'll puke............sell the product to the public and our thing will thrive...try to sell it to ourselves and it will eat it self up and die..............went to the opera and ballet...didn't have to stand in line...lots of seats........................keep trying to impress ourselves and truly there'll be no one left to impress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. i WOULD LIKE TO HEAR MUSIC PLAYED BY GREAT COMPOSERS AND ARRANGED FOR DRUM CORPS BY EXCELLENT ARRANGERS INSTEAD OF AVERAGE COMPOSERS TRYING TO PUSH THEIR CREATIVE ENDEAVOURS AND BELOW AVERAGE COMPOSITION SKILLS ON THE WARY PUBLIC...........i'M SORRY BUT i'M SICK AND TIRED OF HEARING GREAT COMPOSERS WORK BASTERDIZED AND CHOPPED TO PIECES BY OVER ZEALOUS ARRANGERS.
  9. I have mixed feelings about this subject...it seems to me that the hooters corps will be pulled along the path of boredom that has been prevelant in the last year and it would completely destroy my appreciation for one of the finest art forms that ever existed..............don't do it girls please................it's a cult led by people that think too highly of their intelligence/creative quotions and will turn you into non melodic, non descriptive and more importantly non entertaining entities..........May I suggest poker, cheerleading or fitness competitions at least you'll get much better media exposure(and rightly so).......don't do it girls.........We would like to keep some traditional form of pleasureable entertainment in tack.
  10. I wonder what old or young has to do with anything...................is because if you are old.............. you don't like whats happening now because heaven for bid the old people want to keep corps exactly as it was (doubt that very much)..........and the young people love it because it is so esoteric (again know that is a blanket statement)!!!!!!!!!!! No one who agrees that corps are not playing to their strengths should be pidgeon holed into any other catagory except they want drum corps to survive.........and right now its on the edge...........losing corps and fans fast..............It's a wake up call.......when you see as many empty seats in Madison (of all places) as I did.
  11. Gee !! DCI has really been good for the development of our activity???????!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. I think the problem is that they have the mic's too close to the pit and in order to balance.................... the sound is distorted........
  13. How 'bout some of our own names 'Anthology of Bored' 'Play for Ourselves' 'Dance Sans Melody' 'Power Be Gone' 'Eulogy of Entertainment' 'No Response Expected'
  14. [ Color guard? whew ... this is a problem. I don't know if its the staff or the members but somehow we need the right mix of guys involved. I liked some of the things the guard did, but it wasn't very "Madison" and it wasn't very clean. Again, all part of the administrations attempt to redefine what the madison style is. Drum staff? KEEP 'EM. Great people and a great product. Just my $0.02 Madison should always be Madison.........yes change and update continually ............but play to your strengths...............funny how Scott Stewart...........was chastised because he didn't let Madison stray too far from their roots.........judges and WGI despised him because he refused to bastardize a great product , a proud tradition and an entertaining package...............it has been a painful transition...........something like changing Sinatra into Liberace in two years..............and it isn't the performers fault there was some real talent there...........................
