  1. vs What Peter Bond had to say.... Tom or Peter...hmm I think I'll take Peter for 1000 Alex.
  2. 1. Beer. 2. No one broke ranks. 3. Yes, we had to stand on the field while they announced scores and march off in reverse order. 4. Starter pistols...Very cool btw. 5. Push starting bus's was the norm 6. Definitely more judges and circuits. 7. 40+ corps trying out for the night show at a regional. 8. French Horns .....I am sure there are more..but that's off the top of my head.
  3. You are a bundle of joy. BTW its "asinine". I like the use of the "we"..LMFAO. Typical. It has nothing to do with taste..it has to do with what it is. I would think that the masses have NOTHING to do with it and it has to do with what it has become and we DO have a definition for that and it's called Marching Band.
  4. Where is the issue MikeD? You cannot market something under fraudulent pretenses. As soon as you start selling something to the public the rules change MikeD. You cannot call something what it is not to sell it. fraudulent misrepresentation Definition Instance of false statement where (1) the party making the statement is aware that it is false or disregards the possibility of it being false, (2) the party making the statement does so to induce another party to enter into a contract (ticket), and (3) the other party enters the contract as a result of the statement and consequently suffers a loss.
  5. You show me where DCI has the rights to use and define what a Drum and Bugle Corps is and I won't pester you. Quite honestly, they should be brought to court for fraud. They DO have the right to have rules, and run their organization as they see fit....not redefine words or mince words or bait and switch. We DO have laws for that.
  6. Well as of now there are 17 people voted yes. If they are the DCI board that voted yes the rest of us mean nothing.
  7. Defined by whom? DCI didn't invent NOR define drum corps. Weird.
  8. Trooping the stands always gets a standing O in my book. Quite honestly its only in good taste to actually clap and acknowledge the kids out on the field trying. Of course, we have this new phenom happening with people that never marched, but know every statistic ever given at a final or personally know top 12 instructors personally , snobbing these smaller corps because they don't "get it".
  9. Why not you are. Do you actually read your posts? At the point there are no differences it CEASES to be unique and nothing more than very good brass bands and not drum corps.
  10. Money and sponsers...definitely. Brass players, worth anything, should be able to easily assimilate any key horn and adapt to it. If you claim to be a better player...prove it and stop this complete nonsense about having to play F/Bb because they can't actually play "multi-key". Would you argue that brass staffs today are better than 10 years ago? Hmm. Big difference between a G line and Bb line. Most players from the G days understood this as they actually played both instruments and as offered by Peter Bond WHY a G bugle is louder. What I see is more 1-3 years considered VETS vs 8-10 year vets not long ago. Most top corps average age is now more like 20-21 vs 16-18. Less corps with more people trying out weeding out lesser players that will more than likely not play for a corps that wasn't in the top 12 last year.
  11. That's the way to debate, think you are the majority and say so!!
  12. Again, G horn lines are and WERE much louder. Here..this is a paper submitted by Peter Bond regarding this issue before that fateful decision. Peter Bond-multi key
  13. In your opinion. Much more in tune? LOL. Definitely horn lines today INFINITELY SUCK from a balance standpoint. Anytime the low brass opens up (rarely) the trumpets are completely buried or the pit buries them from the amps because they no longer project the volume they once had. I would like to know what brass background you actually have to have such a sweeping opinion of brass intonation and sound quality you seem to bring to every single post you have made regarding this. Quite honestly, I think you are making broad statements thinking you are hearing something that isn't there because you have a poorly trained ear. But, I digress.
  14. Define force. Gee, I wonder if Phantom with have a synth next year...
  15. Ya it was weird because the chrome Olds V/R seemed like it could peel paint off the walls but the DB meter put it on par with the 3 Valve G. The Bb's we used were a Yamaha, Bach Strad XL bore and a Getzen 3003 Genesis (WOW what a horn). I remember testing the first 3 valve DEG Mello at a camp in Rockford in 89 and it does a have a TON of back pressure compared to the 2 valve I was playing at the time. Everyone in the line felt the same way. Have fun..cause it was a real eye opener.
  16. Actually yes. I have actually compared G vs Bb on a db meter...which doesn't give a hoot about politics. 2 valve G horns are louder by a LOT over Bb. V/R and 3 Valve G's were not as loud as the 2 vavle BUT all G's were considerably louder than Bb. As you move the db meter further away from the payer you get the real difference because it becomes REAL apparent the G carries MUCH further than a Bb.
  17. In 2030? Hmmm, drum corps will have moved from the football field to ice rinks. The new demand will be skating and playing.
  18. I mean that's the point right? Shouldn't brass lines be able to be identified by arranger and sound? Why on Earth would we want every horn line to sound exactly the same? What would be the point in that?
  19. Apparently you don't play brass, G horns can be and have been played in tune (and out of tune) just like Bb. Horns aren't "in tune" just by being in a certain key. Trumpet players should know this as they have to play multitudes of different keys. Quite honestly I could go for a few semi-out of tune chords for more dynamic contrast and the wow factor that makes drum corps unique. Most people without trained ears confuse the unique overtone series and sound of bugles as "out of tune" when it isn't the case at all. Judges "demanding" and "threatening" is DCI and drum corps is where it is today. Ask Phantom if they are considering adding a synth for next year after their inability to play ball with the new mafia I mean DCI judging and rules.
