I think this is an interesting topic as well. Lately, I have been on such a huge drum corps kick. I have watched a few of the older corps and feel that they did many things unique to their time period. Obviously, drum corps has evolved and marching is much more demanding, but from time to time I wish new corps would bring the sound like the 70s and 80s corps used to. Everything today is about precision and efficiency, and sometimes I just wish someone would blast me through the back of my chair. But all in all, I think each decade had its own uniqueness and greatness. I think its time for new corps to bring what the old corps did. When I marched with the Bluecoats in '05, the staff put a large emphasis on bringing it musically at the beginning and end of the show. Looking back at our performance, I think we did a good job, but I know many of us hesitated for fear of judging scores dropping in brass. But by finals night, I let it all hang out and left it on the field...something I think every decade of drum corps has done and will continue to do.
