  1. From the limited information the corps and DCI have put out, it seems that they are still working on specific venues for at least some of the shows. In at least one instance, providing more information is contingent on contracts for the actual sites being signed. The other issue, given the changing dynamics of the covid restrictions is, at what point do DCI/corps start selling tickets to shows. People need time to decide if they want to attend. Then, have enough time to make travel arrangements. As I've posted, they should at least consider a "worst case" scenario for a minimum number of tickets.
  2. 100 % correct. There was story on this on the news this morning. NJ is lowering the eligibility age to 16 as of 4/19. That was do in part to planned increases in J&J doses. Problem is,because of the problems at J&J's Baltimore plant,NJ's allotment will drop by about 96% for the next several weeks. That's gonna create more of a backlog in the scheduling of appointments.
  3. "chance" is the right word. Two issues right now are supply and "timing". As I posted, right now pretty much every vaccine site in NJ is fully booked, for "as far as the eye can see". That line is going to get longer, when the state opens up eligibility to more people on April 19. There was an article in today's paper that, because of the problems at J&J's plant in Baltimore, where they had to destroy 15 million doses,NJ will see a 90% reduction in the J&J vaccine for several weeks at least. The state is also increasing the "lapse" between first and second doses to,at least in the case of of several of my friends, over 6 weeks. That could, when you take into account a 2 week period for the vaccine to be "fully effective",make having all corps members and staff fully vaccinated by the start of Spring Training tough.
  4. Governor Murphy said yesterday that the vast majority of new cases here in NJ are "young people". Hospitalizations have remained steady with limited ICU's and vents. Murphy also said people that do end up in the hospital do, for the most part respond well to treatment.
  5. I don't understand why,if a corps, like BD or SCV have determined that it is in their best interest not to tour in 2021,they would need to "trade credit" for their decision.
  6. Thing is,based on the "Disclaimer" in DCI's "Tour Restart . . .", DCI is leaving everything up to each individual corps.
  7. The problem with requiring vaccinations is that, depending on where a member comes from, getting vaccinated can be,difficult. In NJ, where I live, they just expanded eligibility again. This time for people 55+ and other essential workers. Problem is,they don't have anywhere near enough supply. So all expanding did was make it harder to book appointments. In fact,a lot of places were, and remain, fully booked. Next week NJ lowers the minimum age for the vaccine to 16. So expect more "fully booked" locations. Over time getting vaccinated will get easier. But i don't know if it will be in time for the 2021 season.
  8. I had a chance to read the document before it got pulled. One thing that I found surprising was DCI's "Disclaimer" which said,in effect, that the document was informational and each corps was responsible to determine what was best for them.
  9. As I recall, a lot of this was covered in DCI's "Tour Restart Health and Safety Guidelines". That document came out in late November, so I'm sure DCI will have update their guidelines based on current CDC criteria.
  10. Was anyone able to get on DCI's website before it crashed? Was wondering if there was any information on venues, seating, including ticket sales.
  11. Those states may be open. But,they are,to be polite,a bit "toasty" and humid in July.
  12. As Mr. Ream posted, "conditions on the ground" are going to determine if there is a 2021 season. We're almost in April. Maybe DCI is providing the corps with a lot more information then has been made public. But, from what's been put out, including the limited information from DCI, a lot of things remain "up in the air", including things like housing, transportation, attendance restrictions, you name it. There has been a lot of "guessing" about possible regional shows, shorter programs, etc. About the only thing that's "concrete" ,is some type of three day event in Indy. In my opinion, given the current situation around the Country, if you want to try an plan for a season, you have to assume, worst case, namely, things stay the same. They improve, great, but at least you have a starting point to know, if things don't improve if/how to proceed. You have to provide fans with enough time to decide, if they are allowed to attend shows, are they comfortable being in and crowd. And, if they are, give them enough time to make travel arrangements.
  13. I thought this was all laid out in DCI's "covid manifesto" ?
  14. You can open offer the vaccine to whoever you want. If you don't have supply,it doesn't matter. That's what NJ did. Our Governor keeps expanding eligibility. But,given the limited vaccine supply, all that's done is make it even harder to get an appointment.
  15. My wife and niece are both nurses who deal with covid patients. That was the only reason they got the vaccine. At the hospital where my wife works, unless a person has direct contact with covid patients, they aren't lining up to get vaccinated.
  16. Reactions can vary a lot. My wife had no reaction to her first Moderna shot. Not as lucky with her second dose. Very sore arm at the injection site.Much worse at night ,when she was trying to sleep.Lasted a few days. My dad got the J&J.Had "spots" on his forehead, kind of like "pimples" and a rash on his chest and abdomen, that lasted about a week. My dad's Home Health Aide's family is from Jamaica. One of her family members had an issue with "clotting" after getting the Astra vaccine. She wasn't sure how severe they were. My vet had the worst reaction I know of personally.Severe vertigo. He said it took two days for him to be able to get up.He said he's not sure about getting the second dose.
  17. That's one of the strategies they have suggested in NJ. Sometimes they have doses left at the end of the day. Right now its Phizer and Maderna. J&J won't come back until the end of the month. As long as you don't have anything else to do, its worth a shot. Some places will even call people on their waiting list.
  18. I presume the athletes that decide to participate will have to quarantine, then stay in some type of "bubble" like the Australian Open. With no international fans, Japan's tourism industry won't get much out of this. According to one of the sports shows I heard, a number of US and International athletes are still hesitant to go. Wonder if they will find a way for US athletes to "go to the front of the line" for vaccinations ?
  19. Could someone "in the know" please post what the dues for a corps, including Spring training, for a normal season are.
  20. That's not exactly what he said. He said the US will have "enough vaccines for every adult by the end of May" . There still remain the logistical issues with getting doses into people's arms. In N.J. ,our Governor is saying they hope to hit 70% vaccinations in a 'few months". He has said that, assuming the supply can keep up with demand, something that hasn't come close yet, they are looking at late summer early fall.
  21. "Facing challenger",at least in the near future,is an understatement. My wife is a visiting nurse. The J&J vaccine is a lot easier to work with then Phizer,or Maderna, but still has logistical issues. Even if there are enough vaccine doses, they have to be shipped, stored, distributed and administered. Right now,in NJ they're only vaccinating people 65 and up. You still can't get appointments. Going to be a long time before "young adults" get in the pipeline. Corps also have to follow DCI's covid protocols.
  22. Is the "vaccination corps" a school sponsored "group". The reason I ask is that one of the concerns in NJ of allowing non-licensed people to give vaccinations,is liability. Who provides insurance in case someone makes a mistake, giving an injection ? Especially if injections aren't under the direct supervision of doctor or nurse.
  23. I never marched or worked with a corps. We're now in March. I'm a logistics oriented person. So I was wondering,at what point do corps normally have things like housing, transportation, food purchase contracts, volunteers, etc. in place for an upcoming season ?
  24. Depending on where we are with the pandemic,if 2021 does happen,it may be with Social Distancing,"bell covers" and some members in masks. Last year, that's what the high school bands around here, and the college bands I saw on T.V., did. The drill was designed to maintain social distance between members. They had covers over the instruments' "bells" . Even with the Social Distancing, some band members, mostly percussion and some guard, had masks.
