  1. Simple answer,in my opinion: lousy ! The guy can't make up his mind on anything concerning covid. He got photographed attending 2 Floyd rallies over the weekend. Both violated his Executive Orders for maximum number of people and social distancing . But it was O.K.for him. There was an Editorial that said something to effect "not OK for me,but OK for thee". Yesterday he reversed himself on the "stay at home" order he just extended last week and is allowing much bigger gatherings.
  2. Unfortunately, this doesn't prove the value of wearing a mask to stop the spread of Covid, one way or another. The only way to know have effective masks are, would be to have a direct comparison of a similar number of people,in the same environment, not wearing masks. Kind of like a control group being given a placebo. I live in N.J. According to Gov. Cuomo ,so far, tests of protesters,a significant number of which weren't wearing masks, did not show a spike in positive tests. Combine that with the WHO's original statement that it is "rare" for asymptomatic people to spread covid and it raises questions about the effectiveness of wearing a face covering. There's no question, wearing one doesn't hurt, except around my ears,so I follow the rules and wear one, where I have to. Its also interesting that, based on an article I read, the WHO uses 1 meter for Social Distancing, the CDC roughly 2 meters. Germany and Austria use 1.5 meters. Covid seems to be a moving target, rules change constantly, back and forth. I don't think we'll know what worked and what didn't til months or years from now.
  3. The question is,even without a "second wave", will schools be willing to allow outside groups to use any of their facilities during the summer. Housing has been an becoming more of an issue every season, with corps having to stay further and further from a show site. Covid won't make the situation any better. I think the Covid pandemic,"second wave" or not, is going to be another reason schools will use to not allow corps to stay, unless they pick up all costs, including the cost to clean/sanitize when they leave.
  4. This was discussed in depth earlier Some previously mentioned, and current ,pertinent points: 1.Most schools are closed till at least September. Where would corps stay, practice etc. ? 2.You would have to have regular testing of all corps and staff members. What happens if someone tests positive, and you have to quarantine the corps ? 3.Most states still limit the size of outside gatherings. In N.J. its 25 people. 4.Even if there were no limits on the number of people in a gathering,Social Distancing is still required in most states. 5.I don't know any state that is allowing "fans" at sporting events.
  5. What I want to know, after looking at the picture on DCP's Home Page: Does the helmet come with a plume ?
  6. I remember the corps exiting in reverse order and playing as they left. I don't remember "The field is yours".
  7. My wife and I are both in the "vulnerable" (over 60) category. I have no problem with your plan "B" ,presuming its 100% voluntary. We both work in "essential" fields,in fact ,my wife is a nurse. We have both been going to work every day since this pandemic started. We have no intention of being "isolated","for our own protection". We wash our hands, she always has, socially distance, where we can,and wear a face covering ,where required. As soon as things like restaurants start opening back up,we'll be there. This seems to be the feeling of most of our friends. I have no problem if any person, regardless of age, wants to isolate themselves till they get the "all clear". Unfortunately, this may be a long way off,if ever. Please don't try to tell me I have to live my life, sitting at home, watching Law and Order reruns, until someone tells me its O.k. to come out.
  8. The 2021 BAC thread says they are looking for 500K to make up for "lost summer revenue". The Bluecoats thread talks about needing $350K for "refund obligations and to keep the Bluecoats alive and operating". Does anyone know what the Cadets' "bottom line" is to make up for lost 2020 revenue, including refunds, and any other financial obligations they may have.?
  9. YEA does the same thing on their web site.
  10. I see the Cadets still say they are based in Allentown. Does anyone know if they are still in the same building with YEA ?
  11. I was wondering if anyone here participated in the Town Hall and what was discussed ?
  12. I live in Northern N.J. A number of people drove out to areas like Hoboken and Jersey City.where you could see the planes flying over Manhattan. Apparently, some people complained that the people who went to look were, this this wasn't essential travel, violating Governor Murphy's "stay at home" order.
  13. Always liked Sheldon's "I have no difficulty believing you're not butter".
  14. A number of people mention "record setting attendance". What exactly does that refer to ,and from when to when ? Attendance at specific drum corps competitions may have grown , especially at regional events. But,could that be because there are a lot less competitions to go to then years ago ? These DCI events generate large crowds. But ,and I don't think there is any way to do this, what is the overall per season attendance now, compared to say all the competitions for a season in the 70's/80's. I first started following drum corps back in the mid 70's. There used to be a couple of local competitions in the area I lived in North Jersey almost every weekend. Obviously small venues, but they were packed. Now,we get one show in Clifton or Metlife. Add up the attendance for all the small venues shows nationwide, for a full season, back then, and you'll get a pretty big number. Just don't know anyway to do it.
  15. I have a very nice story about Mr.Cook. This goes back to when Blast was touring. My wife and I were taking a weekend trip to Hershey Park. We saw Blast was playing at the Hershey Theater. Figured, while we were there,it would be great to see it again. Problem was,the performances were sold out. Tried everything to find tickets. Nothing. I sent an email to Mr. Cook's attention at his medical company, explaining the situation and asking if he knew anyway we could buy tickets for Saturday night. Got an email back from him, saying there would be 2 tickets for us at the box office. Called the theater to find out what they would cost. We were told they were V.I.P. seats and that there was no charge. Wrote back to Mr. Cook and told him thank-you and that we would be donating the cost of the tickets to our favorite corps.
  16. Not that different. My dentist does everything from cleanings to root canals to implants.
  17. There's an article on Yahoo Sports about a letter from the G5 commissioners to the NCAA requesting changes from certain regulatory requirements for up to 4 years. The request is based on Covid's impact on the schools. Its interesting to note that the schools include an anticipated a drop in attendance at'football games. If Covid is causing these kinds of impacts on D1 college sports, I would expect a similar impact on activities like drum corps.
  18. If you read my post,I said "a number of doctors". If you wish to discount Dr. Oz' s qualifications fine. He's far from the only doctor saying the same thing.
  19. Our local paper did an article about this. According to article, absent hoarding, shelter at home has increased demand. There's an oversupply of commercial TP,but it tends to be single ply,not double ply ,like "Charman". A number of stores out here in N.J. are now selling individual rolls of commercial TP and PT.
  20. I disagree. You can take your refund and use it as a donation to the corps of your choice. DCI only allows you to donate to them.
  21. I didn't get one,at least no yet. Did they give you the option of keeping your seats for 2021 ?
  22. Has anyone seen or heard anything about tickets to the Easts ?
  23. Bethlehem's Music fest starts that weekend. Assuming its not canceled,my wife and i considering tailgating, then heading over there. We tailgate on the street,so it shouldn't be an issue (we hope).
  24. Don't know where "here" is. But they are considered "essential " in N.J. The Record had an article on this today. One of main reasons is avoid forcing people with alcohol dependency into withdrawal and possibly into the hospital. My brother is an alcoholic. Once he tried to quit "cold turkey". He had severe withdrawal symptoms ,including "the shakes",tremors and hallucinations. Ended up in the hospital. They had to give him Valium, or something like it ,help him "detox" and prevent seizures. He was there for a few days. So I can understand not wanting more people to end up in the E.R.
