  1. The word "clean" gets tossed around a lot on this site. As someone who never marched, could someone please define, in " words of one syllable" exactly what "clean" is ?
  2. My concern, as a long time Scouts fan and supporter, is that they are trying to build a stable program on what may be an unstable foundation I.E. the organization's administration.
  3. The Tour Premier date is when DCI wants it to be. They could work work around conflicts if they wanted to keep it in Detriot. It could also be at another facility If I recall it was at Indy a few times.
  4. I think the more likely reason is $$$$$$$. DCI decided not to broadcast the Tour Premier on Fathom this year. So they don't need to do the show in a dome.
  5. I' m not trying to be facetious, but what exactly does this mean ? For brass and percussion you're talking about young men and women in their late teens to early 20's playing a musical instrument while marching. Guard is performing drill and gymnastics. The pit is just playing. Difficult, in many cases yes. Does it require talent, skill and determination. I just think that " Watching . . . " sounds a bit "over the top"
  6. Opps. This is exactly what Lindsey Vento let slip during last year's "Tour Premiere " Broadcast.
  7. Does this mean that some times she swallows bugs on purpose ? 🙂
  8. I don't follow WGI, so I'm looking for information. Does anyone know if there's "bad blood" between the 2 groups ? Infinity's reaction also seems a bit "over the top" for a 4th place finish .
  9. When the stadium was first announced,Buffalo said they felt the winter weather was an advantage. So no dome. I do believe that the majority of the seats will be under some type of "cover". So you may be cold, but at least you'll be dry. When the Giants built Met Life there was a lot of talk about a retractable roof. But the Giants said that, even though its their stadium,if there is a retractable roof, the NFL,not the team, decides when its open or closed. So,no roof.
  10. Don't if they tried to get the rights. But a Jersey Corps, doing a show about A/C and not including Bruce's Atlantic City, kind of hurt.
  11. Not to be all "get off my lawn" , but if you think Frankie Valli is good now, you should have seen him and the original 4 Seasons BITD. Got to see them twice at the Steel Pier in A/C when I was a kid.
  12. Staying O.T. : I grew up in North Jersey. Remember "Action Park " well. "Action Park , Fast Times ,Wild Rides , and the Untold Story Of America's Most Dangerous Amusement Park" . Great book.
  13. Unless they shorten intermissions, that could really affect the BLL broadcast. I'm assuming they'll still be having it ,even though it doesn't show up on Fathom's web site yet.
  14. I didn't march, so I'd appreciate it if someone could explain this to me : My college marching band (Ohio University Marching 110) had a one week Training Week. In that time, they did auditions (marching and playing) , pregame, first show and post game. The members are 18-23 ,same as most WC corps. In fact our band usually has several members from corps. If I'm correct, the corps have been practicing their music all winter. Even 20 days seems like a long time to learn 10-12 minutes of drill. Especially for the top W/C corps.
  15. Couldn't this have something to do with the fact that there's a shorter season and less shows overall ? Then again, don't the Regionals and Indy pretty much sell out every year ? Be more interesting to see attendance at the smaller, more local shows, but I don't know if that's published anywhere.
  16. That's not true. But, it would require DCI to be a true governing body for the activity. Some examples: 1. Have DCI handle purchases of non-perishable food and supplies for all corps. Given the limited tour schedule, coming up with pick up locations for Spring training and the tour shouldn't be an issue. 2.Have DCI negotiate with fuel suppliers for "fleet" discounts. 3. In N.J. an number of municipalities formed Joint Insurance Funds. Saves towns a lot. Again, DCI could do something similar and handle insuring all corps The "elephant in the room" here is that it would only work if the corps make DCI into a true governing body for the activity. Just don't see it happening.
  17. Saying that Drum Corps is either either dying or dead would be an exaggeration. Yes, as you say, drum corps is still here, after Covid . But, that's in large part, because of Federal Covid Relief Funds, not because of anything DCI did. I don't think that anyone who has followed the activity since the 1970's can help but notice the activity has "contracted" significantly . The changes to the length of the season and the number of corps that participate, show that drum corps doesn't draw like it once did . The question is, is DCI willing to make the hard choices needed to adjust to changing times, or just continue to "contract" ?
  18. Thing is, all the "sh#t " you refer to was self inflicted. Even after they moved to Allentown ,The Cadets tried to maintain at least some "ties" to Northern New Jersey, including performing, if I recall correctly ,their Christmas Show , on a Sunday morning, after Mass , in front of the "Most Holy Name" church. Not anymore. "Acknowledging their NJ roots " would be as simple as holding a North Jersey Show, if they are performing in the area. Maybe acknowledging their local alumni at the show. The people in North Jersey supported the corps the entire time they were in NJ, going back to long before DCI. As I posted, I still maintain my M&G Membership. As I also posted, I wish the corps nothing but the best in Erie. Unfortunately, the actions off their organization over the years , have turned off a lot of alumni and fans in the part of North Jersey where I live. Hopefully the people in charge now will try to rectify that.
  19. First ,The Cadets didn't leave NJ for Erie. They left for Allentown. At the time they talked about it as if Allentown was Shangri -La. Guess not. Now they left Allentown for Erie. Second, I never mentioned anything about the corps moving back to NJ. Once they announced they were leaving, no one ever expected they'd come back. As Mr. Ream posted, too many burned bridges. ( More like blown up ) I hope everything works out for them in Erie. I'll still keep my M&G Membership. My point is that The Cadets don't even acknowledge to their NJ roots anymore. There are a number of Cadets Alumni and long time fans in North Jersey that The Cadets don't seem to have any interest in anymore. Except when they want contributions. They aren't even putting on an a North Jersey show, even though, this year they'll be spending July 4th weekend in New England. Maybe they'll wave from their busses when they drive down the Turnpike.
  20. I don't agree about The Cadets doing what they needed to do to survive. More like GH went for what he thought would be the brass ring in Allentown. I was Engineer for the City of Hackensack when the then Garfield Cadets approached the City to move there. As a Cadets fan and supporter I was thrilled. I was at the City Council meeting when GH made his pitch. All kinds of promises to work with the City's youth programs and Board of Education including the High School Band. Didn't keep any of them. The City gave them a building to use as their headquarters. They kept it like a pig pen. All kinds of problems with blocked stairs and exits. After a while GH found greener pastures in Bergenfield and moved the corps there.
  21. The Cadets had at least one show a year in Clifton, pretty much every year since the 1980's. I know, because my wife and I were there. Never seemed to be a problem for corps or fans getting there. In fact I know on some occasions The Cadets hosted clinics there. Clifton always handled to the shows quite well.
  22. The Cadets decided to abandon New Jersey. Not the other way around.
  23. I went to every Cadets Show going back to the 80's. Actually took my brand new Probe there in 1990. Never had a problem. Don't know anyone who did.
