  1. star, hands down. not saying that cadets wouldnt be up there and maybe have a few rings. i wish star would come back
  2. still open spots on the hornline as far as i know, just look on youtube and search Troopers January Camp and youll see the numbers we have in the line as of now. im pretty sure that it will grow because we were missing some people at that camp.
  3. IMO, if you cant play it with sticks, mallets, or by buzzing your lips, it shouldnt be on the field as an instrument. plags, rifles and whatever else the guard uses doesnt count. but i would love to see somebody throw a 10 with a bass clarinet and drop it, but then again, thats just MO.
  4. ****I DO NOT MEAN TO PERSONALLY ATTACK ANY PERSON IN THE FOLLOWING POST, THESE ARE THE THOUGHTS OF MYSELF AND NOBODY ELSE. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY THOUGHTS YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO. i am 19 years old. and i feel that in this activity what i want, is something that i should get. do i want hopkins proposals to be approved? i can answer this with 2 words, I QUIT. i dont like quitting things, and if hoppy gets his way of wanting drum corps how he wants it when he cant even march anymore, and hes affecting my performance with things he wants to see so similar to band then he should be removed from the activity and not allowed back in. sure he marched, ill give him that, but he also didnt march when there were multikey brass, amplification, and probably electronic instruments. i want to go back to the day when drum corps influenced marching band. not the other way around. do i watch mtv, vh1, and bet? yes, but that doesnt mean that though i watch those channels, i want to play that music on the field. if drum corps turns into the movie drumline, even though i am proud of where i have marched, i would say i marched before it changed into the pathetic script where the ending is already forseen. i dont really hate many things but when it comes to proposals such as electronics in general, i find it hard to believe that arrangers and composers have trouble being creative using the idioms they have in creating a show that actually holds peoples attention. i was astounded by the musicality of the 05 cavies show and was entranced by it, however, the show that got so much acclaim as being the champion lost my attnetion at the intro with the whole twilight zone quote. if drum corps must change, i dont want it to end up being just like a superbowl halftime show. i want it to need an entire week of prelims just to get to semi finals and finals. i want the number of people in the activity to be at an all time high with the performance level getting higher season by season, with nothing drastically changing. i would love to be playing a true bugle, with strict guidelines on what a corps had to do, and none of this amplified electronic BS. im not sorry for saying this, but it is clear in my mind that as soon as woodwinds are passed and become a part of the activity, whether i am still eligible to march or have aged out, i will withdraw my name from anything regarding this activity. if the proposal even gets passed, if it happens after i age out, i will no longer donate to any and all corps as i am planning to when i am financially stable after college. and to George Hopkins, if you're reading this, try not to come up with any more "brilliant schemes" to ruin the activity that i have come to love. if you feel that doing what you are to this activity is in the best interest of the students, go get your mind checked because until you ask us what we would like, dont say anything of the sort. and im also pretty sure that since woodwinds are on the agenda, ive done the math and its not fiscally safe to treat them like brass instruments.
  5. in theory i would say you should go to every show, but seeing as most people dont have the funds to follow one corps the entire season, two shows is okay. id like it to be more though cuz you should go to more than 2
  6. i think drum corps is great for letting people be who they are and really only caring about one thing, the education in the various fields that drum corps covers, i.e. living out of a suitcase for 8+ weeks, being tolerant of unlike people, music education, seeing the country...... btw im not gay and my favorite people are and i dont have to throw out a disclaimer to the gay people i have marched with because just through a long normal conversation you can tell which way the wind blows per se.
  7. thank you for the commondation. i appreciate it more than you know. at one of the MA shows this past season i was wearing my Troopers jacket and went into the stadium to get some food and was asked at least a dozen times either how the Troopers were doing or how the organization is coming along with the regrouping. that really go me to believe that there is more support for the Troopers than i could ever have imagined, and it still blows my mind how respected the corps that i have the HONOR of marching in 2007. AWAKENING: Coming to a showsite near you Summer 2007
  8. there are a few Cap Reg people in the Troopers this year. they are very respectable and i must say it will be great to march with them.
  9. As a member who marched in 2005, went to march elsewhere in 2006, and came back for 2007, i am excited to see what the next few months brings. Scott is an amazing teacher and a down to earth guy. the brass staff he hired is top notch and are very respectable. Matt Haines, visual caption head, is also top notch and down to earth and i cant really say anything other than he knows what he wants to do visually and he is looking beyond just this season, just like th rest of the staff. are you excited about the 2007 Troopers? you should be, because i surely am excited to be wearing the uniform again, especially with the numbers that we had at camp.
  10. that still angers some other 05 members.........ooops, i guess bob letting us go was a bad idea....
  11. i believe in 05 pete was caption head for Yomato. i may be wrong on that one, but 04 was his last season at Troopers. personally i didnt like the premier percussion stuff just because the keyboards were not as great as yamaha or pearl, but the timpani were easy to adjust and had a great range. josh williams was the timpanist in 05, not me, btw.
  12. i must say, dont suck is a very good one but over the past couple of days i thought of a few. if you smoke, quit. its difficult yes, but possible and will be more beneficial in the long run. (this is for everybody not just brass people) get into shape. you cant really be prepared for "training camps" unless you have a plan to go above and beyond the physical expectations. this will also make you look like a bad*** when you add ankle weights to your horn, dont break, and people all around you are breaking without the weights. socks and underwear are a must, i plan on bringing at least twice much underwear as ill need and three times as many socks. this one is going to be controversial for some, but dont bring religion into rehearsal. i dont care if youre hindu, buddhist, christian, lds, jehovahs witness, and whatever else. Troopers of 2005 know what im talking about. to go along with this, know youre not perfet and dont march a perfect show. be open for criticism. have fun. you dont pay x amount of dollars just to get an education unlike that of and school. heck, im in the activity to have fun, make friends, learn something new, and of course, live sleep deprived, out of a suitcase, and eating on the ground. nothing better than that.
  13. i want the piano man as a movement. my favorite alltime song.
  14. pretty much nailed it. couldnt have said it better myself.
  15. fine, replace restrooms with locker rooms.......... i know its the ^0^ in me.....hehehe
  16. saying woodwinds should be allowed in drum corps is like saying guys should be able to use the ladies restroom and vice versa. nuff said
  17. if age is the factor in the difference between the NBA and NCAA why is it LeBron James is a great basketball player who is just as old as many college players? sure he went straight to the NBA out of high school and the NBA created a new rule keeping that from happening. if woodwind players really do want to march, they will make the instrument change or march guard. as for myself, i wanted to march in the hornline, and being a percussionist, i had a difficult time. did that keep me from learning baritone in 06 Blue Stars and auditioning for the 2007 Troopers on Baritone? NO. if i were a clarinet player and wanted to march im pretty sure i would have gone through the same process that i went through in the 06 season. i believe that if woodwinds were introduced DCI would have the same fate as SBI. just MO
  18. flute scoop? that would look interesting, but then again, so would................nevermind, not gonna go there.
  19. does a flute, clarinet, or oboe TO THE BOX look as BAD### as a hornlines? i think not, get the bell up to the box without screwing up your posture.
  20. lets look at the cost analysis brass instruments go for about 1000 for a silver trumpet top of the line clarinets can run 970. add to that the cost of repadding, reeds for the entire season (only about 3-4 in a box of 10 are of excellent quality) and you are looking at about 2500 for one instrument. im not sorry to say this but woodwinds are not fiscally effective in an activity where you rehearse at least 4 hours a days and a majority of the time you are running 12 hour rehearsals. with that much play time, reeds will break down every day or every other day. can anyone argue with that? whooopdiedoo, I&E added woodwinds, thats not a field competition so thats alright with me. EDIT: i got the 970 from an online source-didnt want to make that up- and the total of 2500 for instrument, repairs, and reeds i got from a personal friend who repairs musical instruments for a living.
  21. This proposal, proposed by George Hopkins of the Cadets, does not allow for battery percussion or the brass lines to be amplified, nor is it a gateway to electronic instruments, according to Hopkins. did anybody else catch this?
  22. gold bond green saved my life in 06. nuff said.
